Dear Reader,

You know from Poem-a-Day the value of regularly engaging with poetry—how the contemplative experience of reading poems enriches your life.

This National Poetry Month, we inspire students to learn about poetry and the positive impact it can have on their lives.

At the Academy of American Poets, we work tirelessly to produce programs to inspire students to learn about poetry, and ensure that educators have free resources to help them bring poetry into their classrooms this month and year-round.

Please donate to support our growing education program, which includes:

  • our weekly Teach This Poem package, sent to 16,000 educators who have subscribed in the past 18 months;
  • a monthly Educator Newsletter sent to 20,000 educators;
  • in-person teacher meet-ups and trainings;
  • the Dear Poet Project, which engages 20,000 students each April;
  • a suite of lesson plans and special projects for teachers produced by our Educator in Residence;
  • a National Poetry Month poster and corresponding resources, sent to 100,000 schools and libraries; and
  • Poem in Your Pocket Day resources, which are updated annually.

We rely on support from poetry advocates like you to enable these programs, which engage 20,000 students; assist 36,000 educators; and reach 100,000 classroom and libraries.

This April, we need to raise $35,000 to continue these programs in the year ahead. Please help us reach this goal.

Thank you for providing poetry to the next generation of readers.

With appreciation,

Jennifer Benka
