Dear Friend of the Academy of American Poets,

I'm thrilled to share with you that earlier today we learned that we received the 2018 Innovations in Reading Prize from the National Book Foundation, presenter of the National Book Awards, for our Teach This Poem project.

As David Steinberger, Chairman of the National Book Foundation Board said, "Poetry provides distinct opportunities to influence the way we see and think about our world, and the thoughtful, inventive work the Academy of American Poets is doing to celebrate and uplift poetry is nothing short of essential."

Teach This Poem, which launched in September 2015, is a free resource that includes a timely poem from the Poets.org collection accompanied by related interdisciplinary materials and activities designed to help teachers quickly and easily bring poetry into the classroom. The series is curated by our Educator in Residence Dr. Madeleine Fuchs Holzer

Produced for K-12 teachers, Teach This Poem is available for free via email and online in the Materials for Teachers section of Poets.org. More than 27,000 teachers have subscribed to date.

We've provided resources to teachers for many decades but to have this endorsement of our efforts today is deeply meaningful. Thank you for all you do to support our efforts in inspiring the next generation of poets and their readers.

Warm regards,

Jennifer Benka
