How Well Does Girls Handle Alcohol? 1. The Iraqi reporter who threw his shoes at the US president During a news conference at his surprise visit to Iraq, President Bush showed great reflexes by dodging a shoe thrown by an angry Iraqi journalist. In the middle of the news conference with Mr Maliki, Iraqi television journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi stood up and shouted "this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog", before hurling a shoe at Mr Bush which narrowly missed him. Showing the soles of shoes to someone is a sign of contempt in Arab culture. With his second shoe, which the president also managed to dodge, Mr Zaidi said: "This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq." Mr Zaidi, a correspondent for Cairo-based al-Baghdadiya TV, was then wrestled to the ground by security personnel and hauled away. Al-Baghdadiya's bureau chief told the Associated Press that he had no idea what prompted Mr Zaidi to attack President Bush, although reports say he was once kidnapped by the militia and was beaten up. The shoe thrower was taken away by security guards and the news conference continued. Correspondents called it a symbolic incident. Iraq's central criminal court sentenced Zaidi to three years in prison for assaulting a visiting head of state, but the judge later shortened his sentence to one year. Since his release in September 2009, Zaidi has put his journalistic career on hold and instead has engaged himself in humanitarian work by setting up the Al Zaidi Foundation, a human rights organization for Iraqi civilians affected by the war. 2. The reporter who took her own life on a live TV news broadcast Christine Chubbuck was the first and only TV news reporter to commit suicide during a live television broadcast. On July 15, 1974, eight minutes into the broadcast, the depressed reporter said "In keeping with Channel 40's policy of bringing you the latest in blood and guts, and in living color, you are going to see another first: an attempted suicide." With that, Chubbuck drew up a revolver and shot herself in the head. Three weeks before her suicide, she had asked the station's news director if she could do a news piece on suicide. After her suggestion was approved, she visited the local sheriff's department to discuss with an officer methods of suicide. In the interview, an officer told her one of the most efficient ways was to use a .38 caliber revolver with wadcutter target bullets, and to shoot oneself in the back of the head rather than in the temple. 3. The reporter who live tweeted his heart attack White House correspondent Tommy Christopher with Mediaite.com may have made Social Network history as being the first person ever to update his or her Twitter page while having a heart attack. This claim is unverified and likely inaccurate, but nonetheless, it takes a courageous reporter to inform the public even in personal trying times. Approximately at 6pm on Sunday afternoon Christopher wrote, "I gotta be me. Livetweeting my heart attack. Beat that!" Presumably a few minutes later the paramedics arrived to tell Christopher he would be stable after his crisis. An hour later Christopher joked about needing to own a cardiac cat, referencing a viral video in which a cat is trying to revive his dead feline friend. He also updated his followers about the pain he was feeling, "even after the morphine." 4. The reporter who did an amazing backwards half court shot A reporter was making a story in a basketball court and threw a ball. He managed to achieve a shot even better than the one from the story he was telling about. 5. The reporter who stepped in to save a boy in Haiti The earthquake in Haiti has had the world's attention locked on its tragic aspects, the relief efforts, and even controversy. In this CNN video footage, you can see one of their reporters, Anderson Cooper, stepping in to help a boy caught in the middle of a violent looting. Say what you will about the media and Haiti (or just AC and his Getty cameraman), but the video is really something. 6. The 5 year-old sports reporter Joey, a 5-year-old kid reporter for Blackhawks TV, may give professional reporters some competition covering the National Hockey League. Recently, he hit the beat looking for answers for Blackhawks TV on NHL.com . Joey asked some Blackhawks stars, like Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, who the biggest Turkey on the team was. He also asked Duncan Keith how much money the tooth fairy left him for the seven teeth he lost in one game last season. "A dollar a tooth," Keith said. The Blackhawks then got to turn the table on Joey and ask him some questions. Joey knew his Hawks jerseys, correctly identifying who wears which numbers. They also asked the 5-year-old how long he'd been a Blackhawks fan."Six years," Joey said. 7. The sports reporter who tried the worst competitions such as the Sauna Championship Rick Reilly, 52, has been voted National Sportswriter of the Year 11 times. His new book -- out May 4, 2010 -- is called "Sports From Hell: My Two-year Search for the World's Dumbest Competition." It's the account of his search for the dumbest sport in the world. He entered the Sauna World Championship competition in Finland in 2007. He said it was the longest 3:10 minutes of his life: You'd be amazed at how much fun it is to watch a grown man come apart like a $9 sweater. A Belarusian started out sane, just sitting there. Every 30 seconds a pitiless stream of water came out from a ceiling shower in the center of the sauna and splashed on the molten-hot rocks, creating a 100% humidity level in the room that would melt gold. About two minutes in our man started rocking a little. At three his eyes started blinking oddly. At four he began twitching. At five his eyes got huge. At six he started swallowing each breath like a gulp of scorching soup. Then he started glancing around wildly, as if to say to the others, Are you mad? Don't you see what's happening? They've locked us in a Crock-Pot! He started wiping his eyes and mouth. He moved his hands out toward his thighs to rub them, then realized that's not allowed and did so anyway, crazily, as though he were covered in lice. The judges flagged him once, then twice. Then he lurched for the door, and he was out. 8. The reporter who was dragged from the Air Force One when she was trying to give Obama a letter against gay marriage Brenda Lee is a reporter for the Georgia Informer. She was removed from the press area near Air Force One on May 28, 2009, after attempting to give a letter to Barack Obama. This reporter for a small newspaper was forcibly removed from a press area near Air Force One shortly before President Barack Obama arrived at Los Angeles International Airport. Airport security officers carried the woman away by the feet and arms as she protested her removal. She later identified herself as Brenda Lee, a writer for the Georgia Informer in Macon and said she has White House press credentials. Lee said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press that she wanted to hand Obama a letter urging him "to take a stand for traditional marriage." She said she asked a Secret Service agent to give the president her letter, but he refused and referred her to a White House staffer. Lee said she refused to give the staffer the letter. [AffirmationstoDe-Stress] MORNING COFFEE Posted: 30 May 2013 08:26 PM PDT "Assertiveness is one thing – manipulation another." Many believe that to be assertive you must be manipulative. If this holds true, then assertiveness actually becomes aggression. Recognize that being assertive isn't about being controlling. It simply means expressing your wishes in an appropriate, effective way, while maintaining the respect for others. Keep in mind that assertiveness requires communication, negotiation and compromise. When you treat others with respectful assertiveness, you gain their respect in return. Try it! ©Jane Powell By Joan Harrison
1. Doubting yourself The minute you doubt yourself then you have failed, remember the saying "if you think you can you will, if you think you can't you've failed" You are what you think, so think only positive. 2. Negative thinking Negative thinking gets you nowhere, employ a guard at the gate of your thoughts and equip him with a large sword, when negative thoughts come into your mind, your guard will cut them into tiny pieces. Imagination becomes reality, so imagine only positive. 3. Fear of failure Number 2 applies here. If you think you will fail then you will. Your thoughts control every part of your life, so dismiss failure as a negative thought. Think only of winning and you will. 4. Destructive relationships I have experienced a few of these in my time and particularly in friendships. Take a careful note of the five people you have closest to you, apparently you are measured by your five closest friends. Contemplate on what gift each relationship brings into your life. 5. Gossiping This one got me into trouble on many occasion, I have given it up. Gossip surrounds us everyday and it can be difficult to refrain, it is better for your health if you stay outside of gossiping circles. Be aware of what you think and ultimately what you say. 6. Criticizing yourself and others Criticism is negative and the purpose of these points is to dispose of negativity in your life. Remember when you point one finger at someone there are three fingers pointing back at you. As for self-criticism, why waste the energy? If you think negative about yourself then that is what life will give back to you. 7. Anger An emotion that will cause illness if you nurture it. Anger has no place in your heart if you want to develop the spiritual part of yourself. Remember, if someone hurts you then they will suffer the laws of Karma, you do not need to hold anger it is a painful emotion that will take up too much space inside your head. 8. Comfort eating When you comfort eat, you are trying to fill up a space inside. That space will never be filled with food. Discover what you are missing in your life, explore yourself and your thoughts and the excessive need for food or drink will be replaced by a more beneficial and healthier habit. 9. Laziness Laziness harms no-one but you! You have been given the gift of this life and each day is a present, if you choose to waste even a second of your time being lazy then you lose. You cannot hope to progress in any field of thought, work, or relationship if you have a lazy attitude. Good things come from hard work and if you had not noticed, nothing is free. 10. Negative self talk. This is a waste of energy and takes too much effort. Whilst you are spending time thinking negatively you are missing out on the positives of life. Why give precious energy to this task? Ask yourself 'how does negative talk enhance my life?' 11. Procrastination Putting off until tomorrow what you can do today is usually the result of fear. What are you afraid of? Feel the fear and do it anyway! 12. Fear of success This seems a strange one to have on this list I know. Sometimes we can fear success and the feeling can come from childhood messages. If you want move on in your life, create new messages in your mind, change your outlook and observe what happens. 13. People pleasing I was a people pleaser for most of my life, I learned as a child to do this thinking that pleasing people would make them like me. I was wrong. I feel much happier today putting myself first. Once I learned that other people could not bring me fulfillment, my life changed for the better. 14. Anything excessive When you gain awareness of yourself you will notice your thoughts, your daily routines, your habits. Anything that is excessive can become obsessive behavior, again are you looking to fill a hole that can never be filled? 15. Putting others before yourself I touched on this one in 13. You have to be number one, unless you have studied yourself along with your thought patterns and really understand who you are, then you will never be able to help others. Putting yourself first is not selfish, it is necessary to realize how important you are, this may be the first time in your life that you have been given permission to be selfish. Remember everything starts with a thought, take note of the first thought that pops into your head when you awake, if it is negative, dismiss it and replace the thought with a positive one. This is a great way to start the day. Think positive, and live a positive life!
Confidently forward The difficulties can get you down, but only if you let them. The setbacks can make you discouraged, but only if you allow them to do so. You always have another choice. You can choose to focus on the good places you intend to go to, instead of on the painful places you've had to go through. Sure, life is tough and the journey is difficult. Yet at the same time life can be exquisitely beautiful and immensely rewarding. It doesn't really accomplish anything to complain about, or to dwell on, life's unfairness. What will make a positive difference is to put your energy and enthusiasm into following a meaningful purpose. Decide that you will put the difficulties to work for you. Let them inspire you and make you more and more determined. Each time you experience a setback, use it as an opportunity to remind you of the good and desirable places you intend to go. Then step confidently forward, leave that negative incident behind, and move ahead with more energy and passion than ever before. Ralph Marston -

"The sooner you focus on your visions, the sooner they will thrive." We all know people with big ideas that can't seem to make them materialize. Are you one of them? Big ideas and grand visions are never enough. They must be accompanied by a sharp focus. When you focus on your visions, you gain a sense of personal power, a feeling that you are taking control of your life. Both self-respect and self-esteem get a definite boost, as you learn to consciously stay focused on the positive results you seek. Don't waste another day! Stay true to your visions and never lose focus. Before you know it you will be living and breathing your dreams. ©Jane Powell Focus on what you have, not on what you haven't You are who you are and you have what you have, right now. And it can't be that bad, because otherwise you wouldn't be able to read this. The important thing is simply to find one POSITIVE thought that inspires and helps you move forward. Hold on to it strongly, and focus on it. You may feel like you don't have much, or anything at all, but you have your mind to inspire you. And that's really all you need to start moving forward again. Today is when your life is happening. Now is when life's opportunities are yours. Within you is a dream, a longing, a purpose, a desire to experience life's richness in your own unique way. Surrounding you is a universe filled with energy and abundance, and possibilities. Now is when you have the opportunity to connect your most treasured dreams with that abundance, and to bring them to life. Focused, purposeful, inspired action is how you can most effectively do so. On this day, in this moment, the possibilities are more than just intellectual curiosities. Right now, the possibilities are real. Today you can choose, you can take action, you can make a difference and you can make real, satisfying, lasting progress. Today you have the priceless opportunity to live your life as you envision it. The best life you can imagine is today within your grasp. So go beyond mere imagining, and live each moment in the direction of the very best you know life can be. Ralph Marston -

Poem-A-Day: Room in Antwerp by Laure-Anne Bosselaar Posted: 30 May 2013 03:35 AM PDT | | Room in Antwerp Dust covers the window, but light slips through-- it always does--through dust or cracks or under doors.
Every day at dusk, the sun, through branches, hits a river's bend & sends silver slivers to the walls.
No one's there to see this. No one. But it dances there anyway, that light,
& when the wind weaves waves into the water it's as if lit syllables quivered on the bricks.
Then the sun sinks, swallowed by the dark. In that dark more dust, always more dust settles--sighs over everything.
There is no silence there, something always stirs not far away. Small rags of noise.
Rilke said most people will know only a small corner of their room.
I read this long ago & still don't know how to understand that word only, do you?
Where are you? I think of you so often and search for you in every face that comes between me & dust,
me & dusk--first love, torn corner from this life. Copyright © 2013 by Laure-Anne Bosselaar. Used with permission of the author. |
About This Poem "Not long ago I re-read a poem I return to often, 'The Previous Occupant' by Agha Shahid Ali, and it made me think of the fate of those lit places we leave behind as we move on with our lives--or because of our lives. I wrote this poem remembering a tiny room I loved very much, on the top floor of an old house in Antwerp, near the Scheldt river." --Laure-Anne Bosselaar |

[Fropki] Healthy Steps to a Longer Life [Shared by: Junaid Tahir] Posted: 30 May 2013 01:32 AM PDT You may also like:I Have Tested Positive for HIV. Now What? While those are some of the obvious steps you can take to age well, researchers have discovered that centenarians tend to share certain traits in how they eat, move about, and deal with stressthe sorts of things we can emulate to improve our own aging process. Of course, getting to age 100 is enormously more likely if your parents did. Still, Thomas Perls, who studies the century-plus set at Boston University School of Medicine, believes that assuming you've sidestepped genes for truly fatal diseases like Huntington's, "there's nothing stopping you from living independently well into your 90s." Heck, if your parents and grandparents were heavy smokers, they might have died prematurely without ever reaching their true potential lifespan, so go ahead and shoot for those triple digits. Follow these 12 habits and check out Perls' lifetime risk calculator to see how long you can expect to live. It may work for Woody Allen, who infuses his worries with a healthy dose of humor, but the rest of us neurotics may want to find a new way to deal with stress. "We have a new study coming out that shows that centenarians tend not to internalize things or dwell on their troubles," says Perls. "They are great at rolling with the punches." If this inborn trait is hard to overcome, find better ways to manage when you're stressed: Yoga, exercise, meditation, tai chi, or just deep breathing for a few moments are all good. Ruminating, eating chips in front of the TV, binge drinking? Bad, very bad. 11. Be Conscientious The strongest personality predictor of a long life is conscientiousnessthat is, being prudent, persistent, and well organized, according to The Longevity Project, coauthored by Howard Friedman and Leslie Martin. The book describes a study that followed 1,500 children for eight decades, collecting exhaustive details about their personal histories, health, activities, beliefs, attitudes, and families. The children who were prudent and dependable lived the longest, Friedman says, likely because conscientious types are more inclined to follow doctors' orders, take the right medicines at the right doses, and undergo routine checkups. They're also likelier to report happier marriages and more satisfying work lives than their less conscientious peers. [Fropki] Most Amazing Stained Glass From Around the Globe Posted: 29 May 2013 08:37 PM PDT
(Please let the pics open. Might take some time on a slower connection. If you can't see the pictures, right click the small Red-Cross and choose Show Picture to view it.)
Incredible Vertical Gardens Around the World 1. Glass Windows of Grossmünster Cathedral (Switzerland ) At first glance, these appear to be conventional stained-glass windows with a modern design, but the components of the windows are a bit unusual, they contain slices of agate. In 2009, the Grossmünster (one of the three major churches of Zürich) has been enriched with twelve exquisite windows by Sigmar Polke. He has given the western half of the church seven windows where the glass has been impregnated with thin slices of agate. Rockhounding purists might be dismayed by the fact that the geode slices have been "enhanced" by artificial coloration, but the effect is nonetheless quite striking. 2. Glass Windows of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision (Netherlands) Neutelings Riedijk Architects (NRA) represent the generation of Dutch Architects that are finally beginning to usurp the dominance of Rem Koolhaas. NRA recently completed Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. The building was conceived as a perfect cube, half of which is buried beneath the ground. A cultural focus for the city of Hilversum, it houses broadcasting archives, offices and a museum. The exterior is a modern stained glass, conceived in collaboration with artist Jaap Drupsteen. Each panel of the cast glass skin is imprinted with famous images from Dutch Television. Interestingly, each image is only discernible from a certain angle, creating a merged and colourful effect. The interior of the building is in textural contrast, as it gives way to the exhibits. However, the stained glass casts a colourful glow where it permeates. One wonders if the effect is similar to that of the stained glass that we are more used to that of the mediaeval church. 3. World's Largest Stained Glass Window (Illinois, US) The largest stained glass window in the world, according to The Guiness Book of World Records, resides in Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, Illinois. Pickel Studio created this window using over 22,000 square feet of faceted glass. It contains 2,448 panels. Pickel Studio began working with the medium of faceted glass in the early 1960's. 4. World's Largest Stained-Glass Domed Ceiling (Chicago, US) The Chicago Cultural Center - Preston Bradley Hall. This is the largest stained-glass domed ceiling in the world by Tiffany. 5. World's Largest US stained glass Flag It had to be somewhere--the world's largest stained-glass flag--so it's here on the south wall of the Dole Institute of Politics on the west campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence. It's 40 feet high, it has 960 pieces and, it weighs one ton (not that it's likely to be moved anytime soon) and it costs $200,000. Flanking the flag are steel columns recovered from the World Trade Center. 6. Sainte Chapelle Stained Glass (France) La Sainte-Chapelle is a Gothic chapel on the Île de la Cité in the heart of Paris, France. The most visually beautiful aspects of the chapel, considered the best of their type in the world, are its 6,458 square feet of stained glass windows of the upper chapel, surrounded by delicate painted stonework. The windows are in deep reds and blues and illustrate 1,130 figures from the Bible. The rose windows were added to the upper chapel in the 15th century. 7. World's Most Expensive Stained Glass Window (Washington, DC) The Washington National Cathedral, is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church located in Washington, D.C.. Of neogothic design, it is the sixth largest cathedral in the world, the second largest in the United States. There are many works of art including over two hundred stained glass windows, the most familiar of which may be the Space Window, honoring man's landing on the Moon, which includes a fragment of lunar rock at its center donated by Apollo 11 Astronaut Michael Collins. The cathedral is filled with memorials to persons or events of national significance: statues of Washington and Lincoln, state seals embedded in the mosaic floor of the narthex, state flags that hang along the nave, stained glass commemorating events like the Lewis and Clark expedition and the raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima. 8. World Map Stained Glass Dome (Mapparium Building - Boston, MA) Located in the Christian Science Center in Boston, The Mapparium is a spherical stained glass room that depicts as a map of the world with political borders from 1935. The hard spherical surface of the globe reflects sound and produces striking acoustical effects. It forms a remarkable whispering gallery so that visitors standing at corresponding locations near opposite ends the bridge can speak to each other and be heard as if they were standing next to each other. The Mapparium was designed to allow the countries of the world to be viewed in accurate geographical relationship to each other. It is usually assumed that a globe solves this problem; but since it is viewed from the outside, different parts of the globe are at different distances from the eye and are thus distorted by perspective. 9. St. Vitus Cathedral Stained Glass Window (Czech Republic) While the interior of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague is very beautiful, the stained glass windows are of special note. Alfons Mucha, the Czech Art Nouveau painter, was responsible for the new stained glass windows in the north wall of the cathedral during the 20th century. 10. Master Chief Stained Glass Window (eBay, NY) Ok, this is not that amazing, but definitely cool. Are you looking for that perfect piece of decoration for your living room? This weird stained glass Master Chief was listed on eBay. This sucker is hand made by Jacob's Stained Glass in Buffalo, NY, and according to them this picture does not do it justice. If you are a gamer who gets god and games confused this could be a perfect item to bid on. Hyderabad Times Most Desirable Women Kevin Cotter was devastated when his wife walked out after 12 years of marriage, taking all of her possessions. The only thing she left behind was her wedding dress. When he tried to get her to take that, too, she told him that he could do what he liked with it. After leaving the dress on a top shelf in their home in Tucson, Arizona for months, that is exactly what he did. He used the dress to launch a blog project, My Ex-Wife's Wedding Dress , and became super popular. So, we are giving you a list of 10 uses for an ex-wife's dress that we thought you must know about, just in case!
1. An outdoor kind of guy It gives a new meaning to the term shotgun wedding, or is it a shotgun divorce? It's excellent for going hunting, since one can never get enough snow camouflage! 2. Perfect for a costume party You could always go as a zombie bride to the Day of the Dead parade and be a hit with the crowd! Looking at this picture one can only imagine that if you have a big woman as an ex-wife, the dress will fit you perfectly! 3. I am your father This one is actually a great idea. Who wouldn't be scare of that? If placed on the front porch, it will not only serve as a scarecrow but it'll also scare uninvited people. Imagine looking at that at night! 4. Friends that desperately need haircuts Sometimes when it's that time of the month, things are tight and you are short on cash, and you badly need a haircut, you could always use your ex- wife's dress as a barber's smock. 5. A special sports banner It takes some smooth talking to pull this one off. Security isn't usually cooperative with this kind of thing. However, in the end a wedding dress banner is a hit with the fans and brings extra luck to help win the game. Go Cats! 6. Use it as a compress This is actually very useful when you have both ACLs replaced. An ex-wife's wedding dress could work excellently for icing one or both knees at the same time! 7. Making a fine meal It's of vital importance to eat carbs in order to keep your strength up. When you don't have a pasta strainer at hand
you could use a veil! Who would have thought of that? It looks delicious! 8. The importance of dental health Of course, after you eat you have to make sure to clean your teeth. Don't forget to floss! 9. Rage reliever What better way to release all your rage and anger than to make yourself your own homemade punching bag? It's excellent to calm your nerves! 10. Always keep in touch with your inner self Today's Most Visited Topics on the Site: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ __._,_.___

[Fropki] Helping Kids Deal With Bullies Posted: 29 May 2013 05:34 AM PDT You may also like:How to use the internet to make money Bullying is intentional tormenting in physical, verbal, or psychological ways. It can range from hitting, shoving, name-calling, threats, and mocking to extorting money and treasured possessions. Some kids bully by shunning others and spreading rumors about them. Others use email, chat rooms, instant messages, social networking websites, and text messages to taunt others or hurt their feelings. * Avoid the bully and use the buddy system. Use a different bathroom if a bully is nearby and don't go to your locker when there is nobody around. Make sure you have someone with you so that you're not alone with the bully. Buddy up with a friend on the bus, in the hallways, or at recess wherever the bully is. Offer to do the same for a friend. * Hold the anger. It's natural to get upset by the bully, but that's what bullies thrive on. It makes them feel more powerful. Practice not reacting by crying or looking red or upset. It takes a lot of practice, but it's a useful skill for keeping off of a bully's radar. Sometimes kids find it useful to practice "cool down" strategies such as counting to 10, writing down their angry words, taking deep breaths or walking away. Sometimes the best thing to do is to teach kids to wear a "poker face" until they are clear of any danger (smiling or laughing may provoke the bully). * Act brave, walk away, and ignore the bully. Firmly and clearly tell the bully to stop, then walk away. Practice ways to ignore the hurtful remarks, like acting uninterested or texting someone on your cell phone. By ignoring the bully, you're showing that you don't care. Eventually, the bully will probably get bored with trying to bother you. * Tell an adult. Teachers, principals, parents, and lunchroom personnel at school can all help stop bullying. * Talk about it. Talk to someone you trust, such as a guidance counselor, teacher, sibling, or friend. They may offer some helpful suggestions, and even if they can't fix the situation, it may help you feel a little less alone. * Remove the incentives. If the bully is demanding your lunch money, start bringing your lunch. If he's trying to get your music player, don't bring it to school. [AffirmationstoDe-Stress] MORNING COFFEE Posted: 28 May 2013 09:28 PM PDT A very Special Thank You to all of the men and women who have served in the military to give us our freedom. "Don't let the unexpected control your attitude." You wake up in the morning feeling great about your day. Then, you get in your car and it won't start, or you spill coffee on your new skirt just before a meeting, or the babysitter calls to say she'll be late. And, that's just the tip of the iceberg. One after another, unexpected things happen until you want to scream! Wait a minute; force yourself to relax and recognize the unexpected for what it is – one of life's surprises. Take a deep breath and rationally consider your options. Choose the most appropriate way to deal with the situation, then move on. When you slow down and take this calm approach, you're empowering yourself with control. And, soon, your attitude will brighten back to the eagerness and energy with which you originally greeted the dawn. ©Jane Powell Maybe life is all about being first after all! Maybe life is all about being first after all! Not so fast. Being first is about consciousness, not competitiveness, i.e., as you sow, so shall you reap. To be loved, you have to be willing to love first; to be cherished, you have to be willing to give respect first; to be heard, you have to be willing to listen first; and to experience forgiveness and freedom, you have to be willing to forgive first. I honestly believe that the only way to get to happiness is to be happy already. Many people live their life according to the formula: Do + Have = Be. They cannot just be happy because first they have to do x, and then they have to have y. In other words, they have to have a house, they have to do more, they have to do even more, they have to have a partner, they have to have lots of money, etc. But why not just be happy? In the healing process, people often convince themselves that they have to get well before they can choose happiness again. In my work I encourage my clients to honor their pain and choose peace, to feel fear and choose love, to face the anger andchoose forgiveness, to experience the heartbreak and choose happiness, and to experience guilt and choose innocence. Gandhi once said you have to be the change you want. Why? Because the mirror cannot change without you. And the world is only a mirror. Remember, you see only your thoughts. When you shift, shift happens. If you dont, you simply experience more of the same. It is no good saying, Ill be open with you, as soon as you are open with me. Be first. Be different if you want a different outcome. Be the goal. What to be decisions will you make today? Think of your goals, your challenges, your relationships, and ask yourself, Is how I am being going to bring me what I really want? Be still a moment and reset your intention to be loving no matter what, to be kind in spite of everything, to shine your light come what may. Your to be decisions are between you and God. Let nothing steal them away. Robert Holden
Go with what you have This moment is here, the situation is as it is, so go with it. Your best option is to adopt a positive, enthusiastic attitude, and to move forward with what you have. Wishing, complaining, blaming and harboring resentment won't do much other than waste your time. Instead, use that time to use what's available to you and make things better. Your goals and dreams are too important to put off until conditions are perfect. Go with the conditions as they are, and get busy right now with making those dreams come true. There's much to distract you, and it's easy to make perfectly reasonable excuses out of those distractions. Yet you can choose instead to focus on the task at hand, using your diligent efforts to create what you desire from what you have. Go with what you have, from where you are, with the powerful passion of authentic purpose. And you can end up anywhere you choose. Ralph Marston | | -
