[Fropki] Coolest Treadmills

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 07:18 PM PST

WTF Girls Photographed Doing God knows What

1. Wall Climbing Treadmill

In an expression of the Sisyphean human condition, you can now climb up a wall and never reach the top. The Treadwall offers a 4-foot wide climbing surface and angles from +5 to -20 degrees.

2. Pool Treadmill

If you can't make it to the gym, you can always exercise in the pool. However, this device is a bit unusual for the work out crowd. The Pool Treadmill is described as a "portable swim current generator...[with a] powerful 24-volt DC motor [that] produces 80 ft. lbs. of thrust and a maximum speed of 6 M.P.H." Basically, it's like swimming against an ocean current, except you're in a pool! Just roll the unit to the edge of your pool, lower it into the water, and get your exercise on. Its two rechargeable 12-volt batteries provide power to the propeller, and you can select different current speeds for the best workout. Unfortunately, going to the beach is way cheaper; the Pool Treadmill sells for $3,999.95 at Hammacher.com.

3. Underwater Treadmill

Hydro training has advantages for athletes across all levels of fitness. It has been shown that water-based exercise enables an improvement of strength, muscular and cardiovascular endurance. Athletes' load on joints and specific muscular points is decreased. As the future of performance training, this contemporary exercise environment allows the user to train to a high level while at the same time minimising body stress.

4. Treadmill Desk

While you're sitting and staring at your computer all day, wouldn't it be nice to be able to actually stand up, stretch and keep working upright or take a leisurely stroll while still staying productive? The revolutionary new Sit-To-Walkstation gives you the options to sit, stand or walk at the push of a button!

This innovative and paradigm-shifting office workstation is the first of its kind to combine an electric height-adjustable desk with a low speed commercial grade treadmill. This low speed commercial grade treadmill features a quiet, high torque motor that lets you walk at speeds up to 2 mph with 0.1 mph speed adjustments. It's slow enough to let you concentrate on the work at hand or even talk on the phone, but fast enough to energize you, burn a few calories and keep you fit and healthy.

5. Rolling Treadmill

The guys over at dutch design firm OOOMS came up with a very interesting contraption. Looking like a treadmill on wheels, the Speedy Rollator uses a special gear drive system to multiply your walking efforts and increase your pace. While you won't look quite as cool as a hipster tooling around on his Segway, you might end up getting there just as quickly.

6. Hamster Wheel Treadmill

The Human Hamster Wheel is an interactive treadmill in which runners grasp sensory handles while running to view their heart rate, feet per second, and other health-related statistics.

7. Treadmill with a View

Losing those holiday pounds can be a chore, especially in colder climates where it's just too cold to be outside riding a bike or jogging. Shoveling snow is no fun and certainly not something we hope to do every day, so these awesome treadmills with interactive TV screens are really cool to use. It's a little out of my price range though, but maybe I can talk the local gym owner into trying one of these out. I bet it would be really popular with his clients.

7. Goldfish Treadmill

We all have heard about treadmills to exercise our dogs and cats, but how about our goldfish? Mick Madden, a metal worker from Huddersfield, has invented a goldfish walker so he can take his pets Malcolm and Ethel out for a stroll.

9. Hot Air Balloon Treadmill

To raise money for heart disease research, Rob Ginnivan ran a half marathon not through but over Canberra, Australia. He placed a treadmill in a hot air balloon and took off. The run was especially challenging because he had to make short strides and the basket tilted at different angles. Mr. Ginnivan's right leg seized up during his last two kilometres, as the tilt of the basket had him effectively running up hill, but he said he was delighted to complete the feat in a time of 2 hours and 18 minutes. A veteran of 18 marathons on six continents, Mr Ginnivan said before taking off that the biggest challenge of running in midair would be taking small steps when he was used to being able to stride out.

10. Treadmill on Billboard

Some ad campaigns are just brilliant. Why waste thousands on mediocre advertisements if you can spend just as much money on a creative approach. This Nike ad campaign promoting their treadmills is one of those campaigns that just can't help but inspire.

They have placed interactive billboards around the world. In each billboard anyone could run a built-in treadmill. For every kilometer run, Nike promised to donate a certain amount to UNICEF. Fun, no?

"It seems clear that one intention of Adrienne Rich as a poet was, at least since the 1960s, to do something useful--and not only useful to younger poets." In this video clip, filmed during the 2012 Poets Forum, Marilyn Hacker considers the political and aesthetic implications of Adrienne Rich's work.

[Fropki] Awesome Gadgets To Reuse Water

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 08:35 AM PST

(Please let the pics open. Might take some time on a slower connection.
If you can't see the pictures, right click the small Red-Cross and choose Show Picture to view it.)

Getting Office Ready in a Man's Suit Solenn Heussaff

We like the concept behind this. Small space apartment dwellers would appreciate the utility of having a washing machine option in their bathroom (we know we would). But then again, the toilet in the concept photo above looks like it's giving a piggyback ride to a reject from The Transformers.

The "Washup" concept is a sustainable and space saving water consumption device that reuses wasted water from the clothes washing cycle for toilet flushing later (hopefully not at the same time...do your load before dropping it). We just worry we'd accidentally lose socks in the toilet while loading and emptying the machine above.

Ingenuity gets an all new meaning in designer Andrew Leinonen's simple yet very powerful Filterbrella concept. As you may have guessed, the Filterbrella is an umbrella that is very innovative and eco-friendly. The Filterbrella has a canopy which is made of compostable polylactic acid plastic blends. This gives the Filterbrella its environmental charm. The Filterbrella has a very innovative activated carbon filter in its hollow rod. The hollow rod actually lets in rain water which gets purified by the activated carbon. This water flows into a bottle that is attached to the Filterbrella's handle, thus making pure, potable rain water available on the go. That is what ingenuity is all about. Though the Filterbrella is still a concept, it has all the underpinnings of becoming an instant hit if it ever makes it into commercial production, which looks very likely in the near future.

With most nations facing water crisis, recycling used water becomes more important than ever before. Addressing water emergency across the world, Hughie of Australia has come up with an innovative kitchen sink that stores waste-water that would otherwise go down the sewer. The winner of the 'Product of the Year 2008' award, the Removable Kitchen Sink saves 80 percent of the gray water that can further be used for watering your garden plants or washing your car.

Perhaps inspired by Britain's constant drought warnings and reminders to 'use water wisely', an inventor has come up with a combined washing machine and shower. 'Washit' allows users to give their clothes a good soaking while they take one themselves, with a unique pump system that uses your shower run-off to give your clothes their first rinse.

If that sounds a little unhygienic, rest assured it is just the first rinse-cycle which uses your cast-off water to wash your cast-offs. Ahmet Burak Aktas, one of the four designers of the project, hopes combining the water will cut down on the 150 litres of water used for a 15-minute shower and the 38 litres used on a typical wash-cycle.

One has to wonder what is holding back this kind of innovation – is it health or simply convention? The idea is simple: combine the two water-using items found in any men's bathroom. Yeongwoo Kim designed it with the utmost aesthetic simplicity, and it speaks for itself: the water clearly recycles to add in flushing the toilet – semi-opaque frosted glass hides the first sequence's function from view as one leans forward to wash hands.

The result is a grey water reuse system that requires fewer pipes but also saves space, as the same vertical area can be used both for urinating and hand washing, presuming, of course, that the hygiene of such proximity does not prove to be a problem.

Simulate living life in the wilds of nature by taking a shower in the Phyto-Purification Bathroom. Using a natural filtering principal, this mix of modern design and nature is a mini eco-system able to recycle and regenerate gray water. A hydraulic system channels waste water through a collection of plants, starting the phyto-purification process. Each part of the plant plays a crucial role in cleaning the water — the sand where the reeds are planted provides the initial rough cleaning, and as the water passes through the roots, heavy metals and bacteria are removed. An ingenious concept, this living shower not only aids in water conservation, but also produces additional oxygen. The Phyto-Purification Bathroom is a concept developed by designers Jun Yasamoto, Alban Le Henry, Olivier Pigasse and Vincent Vandenbrouck.

Simpler but more practical designs are always popular and today we'll show you another 'we should have thought of that before' product. It is the 'Keep2Green' pot by Paul Gribincea. The concept about it is quite simple: the system makes full use of the space and water by planting some grass beneath the hanging pot. So you've gotten that? Good. Mainly made from metal, 'Keep2Green' is heavy enough to withstand moderate winds and holds the flower pot steadily in the air. Designer: Paul Gribincea

This eco-friendly Zen sink uses the wasted water to grow you a little garden.

This seat is for those who sit down on a stool or something whilst bathing. The gaps in the seat lead the water to storage pitchers that collect your used bath water. This water can be recycled for watering plants, etc.

From the U.K. comes this handy device called the "Ban Beater". It is a large siphon with hoses attached, and it's used to suck up all the used "greywater" in a bath. The inventor, Dominic Flinton, says that one simple upward pull will start the siphon action, and fill the hose until the bath runs dry. You can then take the "Ban Beater" outside and water your garden or wash your car with the greywater you've collected. Flinton was inspired to create the device during the recent periods of drought in England. This device allowed him to water his garden during periods of water restriction.

Poem-A-Day: December, 1919 by Claude McKay

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 03:10 AM PST

December, 1919
by Claude McKay

Last night I heard your voice, mother,
The words you sang to me
When I, a little barefoot boy,
      Knelt down against your knee.

And tears gushed from my heart, mother,
      And passed beyond its wall,
But though the fountain reached my throat
      The drops refused to fall.

'Tis ten years since you died, mother,
Just ten dark years of pain,
And oh, I only wish that I
      Could weep just once again.

A leader is one who says, "I'll go first."

A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus
but a molder of consensus.

Leaders are those who empower others.

[Fropki] Most Bizarre Therapies

Posted: 03 Dec 2012 07:27 PM PST

(Please let the pics open. Might take some time on a slower connection.
If you can't see the pictures, right click the small Red-Cross and choose Show Picture to view it.)

Examples of Toned & Muscular Body for Girls

1. Death to Rebirth Therapy

According to China Daily, there is a very questionable new treatment for people who suffer from psychological problems. This special psychotherapy service that allows people to experience death is gaining popularity in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province. More than 1,000 people have tried it, and by 'it' I mean being resurrected from "death."

People who are suffering from stress or intense pressure can be "reborn" by simulating death with the help of psychologists, according to Tang Yulong, a consultant of a psychological counseling center. In the center, they have prepared a coffin in a 5-square-meter "death experience room."

According to Tang, the patient using the therapy must write down his or her last words before lying in a coffin covered by a white cloth, and to make this "dying" experience even more realistic, the "deceased" can even hear a dirge being played in the room. Five minutes later, a sound of a baby crying will break the "serene time," and the consultant will open the coffin with a festive song. Apparently, this death experience can help people get a new outlook on life.

2. Maggot Debridement Therapy

Maggots are often associated with death and decay because, well, that's just how they are. These little white squirming fly larvae thrive on all things disgusting, from rotting food to putrefying flesh, which is exactly why they work so well at cleaning out infected wounds. The ancient treatment called maggot therapy, which was once considered antiquated, is now enjoying a resurgence of popularity due to the advent of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Placed in a wound, the maggots actually dissolve infected tissue, kill the bacteria and promote healing. Once all the dead and infected tissue is gone, they seek to exit the wound and are removed.

3. Slapping Beauty Therapy

A Thai natural health practitioner claims she can turn back the clock simply by 'face-slapping.' The traditional technique is said to erase wrinkles, shrink pores, and tighten the skin without surgery by using slapping, kneading and massaging of the area, instead. Rassameesaitarn 'Tata' Wongsirodkul, who was trained in Thailand, says she is the first face-slapping beauty therapist in the western hemisphere, and charges $350 for each 15 minute session at her San Francisco salon.

4. Lying Down on Railway Tracks Therapy

There is a bizarre form of therapy in Indonesia. People will lie down on railway tracks every day because they believe the electric surge from oncoming trains will cure them of illnesses as it flows through their bodies. It all stems from the tale about a Chinese man who once tried to commit suicide, but was miraculously cured of his illnesses by the electricity passing through the tracks.

People now flock to the train tracks to seek a cure for illnesses like diabetes and high blood pressure. They will jump up when a train approaches, and then lay back down to let the pulse of electricity flow through their bodies.

Despite the dangers involved and threats of arrest, people remain faithful to this bizarre form of therapy.

5. Canine Psychiatrist Therapy

I'm sure you have already heard about therapy with dogs, but how about having a dog as your therapist?

Consulting the family pet before a big job interview or important life decision is something many people will attest to. But those who don't have a commiserating kitty or compassionate canine of their own can now indulge in one-on-on therapy sessions with a doggy psychiatrist. The wacky solution comes off the back of a survey that claims a whopping 85 percent of all cat and dog owners talk to their animals about relationships, work, family and finance.

The study, conducted by More Than, has prompted the insurance company to hold the first ever "Dogtor's Surgery," offering members of the public therapy sessions with a canine shrink.

Janet Connor, Managing Director for More Than, said, "While pets might not be able to speak or have the foggiest idea what's being said to them, they are looked upon as faithful companions whose loyalty and affection is unwavering."

6. Bee Sting Therapy

Most people will run away when a bee is trying to sting them, but a few crazy ones actually want to get stung! The practice of bee sting therapy involves the application of multiple stings to an area in an effort to heal conditions like arthritis. This method has been used by the Chinese for over 3,000 years, and they claim that the stings have anti-inflammatory properties.

7. Tickle Therapy

Tickle therapy may sound like a kind of torture to those with sensitive skin, but the CosquilleArtespa in Spain believes this can have very therapeutic benefits. This isn't tickling as you know it- rather than being tickled till you squirm, this therapy is all about soft fingertip-like strokes, and is performed by two people so you get a 20 finger sensation. Fingers are gently traced around the body and often aided by feathers to provide a treatment that soothes and relaxes the senses. Isabel Aires, the creator of tickle therapy, says it "allows customers to return to a state of childhood, recalling earlier stages of pleasure and play to move to a state of well-being and relaxation." Tempted? Sounds a lot better when she puts it like that.

8. Attachment Therapy

Rebirthing is another term for attachment therapy, commonly used amongst foster or adoptive parents and caseworkers. It's usually considered a controversial category of alternative child mental-health interventions used to treat attachment disorders suffered by adopted children. We say controversial because it seems to spark a bit of interest any time it kills the patient, as there have been at least six documented cases of child fatalities.

In 2000, a ten year-old girl died of asphyxiation when her rebirthing session went horribly wrong. The girl, Candace Newmaker, was wrapped tightly in layers of blankets, and then forced to struggle in order to be "reborn." The child had to fight against the combined weight of her therapists and adopted mother, totaling almost 700 pounds. Candace couldn't make it out of the suffocating blanket rolls and died. In the videotape of the session, Candace is heard begging the psychotherapists to be let free. "I'm going to die. Please, I can't breathe." "You want to die?" a therapist said. "OK, then die. Go ahead, die right now." When she was finally unwrapped, Candace had lost consciousness and was pronounced dead in the hospital.

Ms Watkins, 54, and Ms Ponder, 40, and their two assistants were only sentenced to 16 years in prison, and the rebirthing method was banned in Colorado after the incident.

9. Ear Candling Therapy

This process is also called thermal auricular therapy, probably to make it sound like a normal healing method. The attempt is absolutely futile because lighting up one end of a candle and placing the other end into your ear is something very far from normal. Most of the leading health organizations strongly dissuade people from trying this therapy.

[Fropki] Craziest USB Hubs

Posted: 03 Dec 2012 08:53 AM PST

If you can't see the pictures, right click the small Red-Cross and choose Show Picture to view it.)

Sexy Jenni in a 1250whp Underground Racing Lamborghini

1. Aphrodite Bust USB Hub

Aphrodite was the Greek Goddess of love and now she can be your Goddess of Hub with the Aphrodite USB Hub. This bust is made of ceramic with a slip resistant base and has 4 ports to charge all the USB gadgets you love.

2. Pig Buddies USB Hub

To put some fun into the daily boring USB's and USB Hubs we see day in, day out, in every home, office and work place.

3. Airplane USB Hub

Big ol' jetliner, don't carry me too far away. I really like the design of this USB Airplane Hub with Fan. The aircraft's propeller serves as a real working fan (with an on/off switch just above the cockpit) and the wings each have 2 USB ports to plug your gadgets into. When you plug this airplane into your computer it makes a sound like a jet engine taking off, which is only mildly annoying. Unlike a lot of other novelty USB Hubs, this one doesn't look like they just took some cool object and randomly slapped a few USB ports into it - the ports look like they belong on the plane. Nice one.

4. Tulip USB Hub

Turn your desk into a blooming garden with this pretty tulip USB Hub! Four USB high-speed ports are included, with one colorful red flower for each.

5. Robot USB Hub

All hail the mighty Roboto, come to conquer our desks and lay siege to our peripherals! Bow before his diminutive wrath!

Standing a towering four inches tall, it really does wind up and stomp about your work space when it isn't commanding your accessories with its four USB slots, or controlling your mind with its glowing green eyes. Roboto is available from Fred Flare for $24.

6. Skull USB Hub

Who in their right mind would NOT want this USB Hub on their desk? The top of the skull is even hollowed out to hold your fave candy (Candy Corn anyone?), keys, spare change, paper clips, razor blades, plastic spiders or even eye of newt! You can pick this baby up at ThinkGeek.com for $24.99.

Macabre and yet useful!

7. Medusa USB Hub

Far too many peripheral hubs are cranked out without a single thought given to design, but thankfully, the creators of the Medusa Hub realized that aesthetics do matter. This interesting piece, which is sure to claim a section of prime real estate on your desk, boasts a trendy white finish, four USB 2.0 sockets, a pair of FireWire 400 connectors, a fan, and even a light.

Medusa was a mythical creature, a Gorgon woman with snakes for hair that was so ugly, she'd turn anyone who looked at her into stone.

8. Chocolate Bar USB Hub

This is a good choice for those USB fans. Shaped like a chocolate bar, the modular USB set could be a delicious device for your computer. Each piece functions as a modular flash drive, and the central hub's touchscreen allows you to organize your files without connecting to the computer.

9. LEGO USB Hub

These stackable LEGO USB Hubs are available from Korean retailer, DCX, for 15,920 KRW ($12 USD).

10. Transformer USB Hub

Ok, forget every USB Hub you've seen before…. these Transformers Hubs are the shit! He doesn't transform into your typical boom box, but into a fully functional USB HUB device disguised as a laptop computer. The USB HUB carries 4 ports and is usable in Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Vista and MAC operating systems. When transformed into robot mode, Blaster can be posed in a variety of ways due to the multiple joints of movement, and will surprise anyone passing by your cubicle. Hey, where did that robot go, and why do you have two computers on your desk? This USB HUB truly is More than Meets the Eye!
