Year-end Roundup, Plus Poetry Store Sale

The end of the year brings with it both celebration and reflection. Below you'll find a video of this year's standing-room-only Blaney lecture by Academy Fellow Carolyn Forché; poems by each of our 2013 Academy Award winners--plus a few by past winners and Chancellors whose books were nominated for other major awards this year--an essay on the life and legacy of Sylvia Plath, and more.

Laying Blame: The Legacy of Sylvia Plath
by Mark Wunderlich

Sylvia PlathAs the fiftieth anniversary of her death comes to a close, poet and teacher Mark Wunderlich writes about the life and legacy of Sylvia Plath: "I had been thinking about Plath and talking about her with other poets and readers for years. In almost every conversation, the matter of her suicide was inevitably mentioned....How was it that we had come to see her creative work as a sort of extended suicide note, rather than as the work of an emerging poet whose career and output had been cut short by a tragic, early death?"
