This balloon-like creature that's circulating the internet looks like a supernatural being from the 80s horror movie. However, it is rather well-known for biologists – it's called Physalia physalis or The Man-Of-War. While it might look like another plastic bag on the beach, don't be too quick to touch it! It can burn your skin like hell.

 

Although it's often mistaken with jellyfish (well, yeah, they both are sneaky troubles…), the Man-Of-War is not a singular organism. The creature is a colonial unit, made up of many highly specialized little organisms, that are plain nothing without each other.
