Rap "The Raven"

Coming Soon...a New Poets.org

This year, as we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Academy of American Poets, we will be launching in April
a fully revamped Poets.org. The new site will include all the poems and other signature content you know and rely on, along with additional features and functionality, we're excited to share with you. Stay tuned!

Celebrating 80 Years of Great American Poetry

Please join us on April 24 at Lincoln Center for this year's benefit reading, Poetry & the Creative Mind. Actors and artists including Meryl Streep, Sebastian Junger, Chip Kidd, Kevin Kline, Juliana Margulies, Rosie Perez, Esperanza Spalding, and Carrie Mae Weems will share a selection of powerful, uplifting, and entertaining poems written by American poets during the past 80 years.

This special event raises critical funds to support the Academy's programs, including National Poetry Month, which we established in 1996 and is now the largest literary celebration in the world.
Poet-to-Poet Project

For this April's National Poetry Month, we introduce Poet-to-Poet, a multimedia educational project that invites young people in grades 3-12 to write poems in response to those shared by some of the award-winning poets who serve on the Academy of American Poets Board of Chancellors. We will consider all student poems for publication on Poets.org in May 2014

Rap "The Raven"!

The Academy and Project ED challenge creators to perform Edgar Allen Poe's classic poem "The Raven" to a beat that will make students everywhere want to hear it again and again. Take a shot, and you could win up to $1,500 and a chance to have your video showcased on Rap Genius.

Participants must be 13 years or older and a citizen of the United States or Canada. Your challenge is to perform the first six verses of the poem.

Poem in Your Pocket Day
Second graders at Falcon Heights Elementary School in Minnesota celebrate Poem in Your Pocket Day with handmade hanging pockets filled with poems.

This year's Poem in Your Pocket Day will be held on April 24. On that day, people throughout the United States select a poem, carry it with them, and share it with others.

Poems from pockets are unfolded throughout the day with events in parks, libraries, schools, workplaces, and bookstores. You can also share your poem selection on Twitter by using the hashtag #pocketpoem. Share your creative ideas for celebrating Poem in Your Pocket Day with us by emailing npm@poets.org.
