Alice Moore Dunbar-Nelson, an American poet, journalist, and political activist, was born in 1875 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was involved in the Harlem Renaissance cultural movement, and published several texts before her death in 1935.
Launched during National Poetry Month in 2006, Poem-a-Day features new and previously unpublished poems by contemporary poets on weekdays and classic poems on weekends.
