Some photographers choose to rent expensive helicopters in order to gain access to the beautiful aerial views that lie beneath where as photographer Cris Benton chooses another method, by using a radio controlled camera that is attached to a kite. Forget helicopters and forget drones. He might be on to something good here.

 

Not knowing much about the South Bay landscape, I was struck by the wonderful variety of colors and textures associated with the salt ponds. This was fun territory to photograph,

 

Planning what the photographs look like before hand, Cris has to use his imagination as once the camera is up in the sky he cannot see the photos he is taking. In this series of photographs titled Saltscapes he explores some 15,000 acres of salt ponds located in the South Bay of San Francisco.
