About This Poem

 

“Within the Circuit of this Plodding Life” was published posthumously in Thoreau’s book Excursions (Ticknor and Fields, 1863).

 

Henry David Thoreau was born in Concord, Massachusetts, in 1817. Among his books are Walden; Or, Life in the Woods (1854) and Poems of Nature (1895). He died of tuberculosis in 1862.
