Roz Chast's Incredible Poster for National Poetry Month Revealed
Read the latest about our plans for this year’s National Poetry Month, when we highlight the extraordinary legacy and ongoing achievement of American poets and poetry.
Introducing the Official National Poetry Month Poster
2014 National Book Award finalist and New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast has designed this year’s official National Poetry Month poster, which features a line of poetry by poet Mark Strand. The poster is available for free through Poets.org while supplies last.
Our Education Project for 2015
Dear Poet, our multimedia education project, invites students during April to write letters in response to poems shared by award-winning poets serving on our Board of Chancellors. The Chancellors recite their poems in a series of exclusive videos presented on Poets.org. And for teachers interested in bringing Dear Poet to the classroom, we’re featuring a new lesson plan aligned with the Common Core.
April 30: Poem in Your Pocket Day
On Poem in Your Pocket Day people throughout the United States choose a poem, carry it with them, and share it with others throughout the day. On Poets.org we provide free resources for celebrating Poem in Your Pocket Day, including a downloadable collection of poems to choose from. Share your poems online using the official hashtag #pocketpoem.
“Taking a Walk through Leaves of Grass,” Allen Ginsberg’s timeless essay on Walt Whitman, the “good gray poet," is now available for the first time on Poets.org. Sound a barbaric yawp, sing the body electric, and take a walk through Leaves of Grass with two of America’s most celebrated poets in this classic text.
Thanks for being a part of the Academy of American Poets community. To learn about other programs, including National Poetry Month, Poem in Your Pocket Day, the annual Poets Forum, and more, visit Poets.org.
