[Fropki] Really Accurate Ways In Which Life Changes Between School And College

Braless Kim Kardashian Manages to Stay Covered

Was college better than school? We couldn't tell back then. It would always be a pressing dilemma during school. This was while we would be forced to study for those inconsequential weekly tests. I remember telling the inner me 'I'm going to really make college count'. I don't know if I did, but I surely did throw the books out of the window. I could never tell which life was better. I guess I was one of the lucky ones who got the best of both. The creative guys at Singh's Design try to talk about how our lifestyle changes as we move on from school, and start a different life in college. Pretty accurate, we must admit. But which one wins?

1. Sleeping late was one of the privileges, yes.

2. Well, our attendance was compulsory but if you're from a place like DU, then yeah, college wins again.

3. Most of the time, I didn't even have a pen.

4. All online, even sweeter.

5. So true.

6. See, you can't really tell the difference because in both places, you make friends for life. Don't really agree with this one.

7. The grass was always greener on the other side, and will always be so.

8. In my case, shoes were reserved for winter and special days. Flip-flops for the win.

In the end, you really can't choose a winner because our preferences will always be subjective. Which ever one it was, we did have a whole of fun, didn't we?

Miss those days.

Patient Pet Owner Walks His Giant Tortoise

Residents in Tokyo have recently reported several sightings of possibly the most patient pet-walker in the world: an elderly man who takes his enormous African spurred tortoise (or sulcata) out for walks around the town.

Judging by the tortoise's size, the mysterious pair has probably been together for a very long time, and the tortoise always plods faithfully by its owner's side. It even tolerates the occasional silly costume!

[Fropki] Quotes By Famous People That Will Teach You What Success is All About

Posted: 16 Apr 2015 08:39 PM PDT

Elli, Deepika, Aishwarya: The HOTTEST skirt styles

These simple quotes by these amazingly famous and successful people will teach you a thing or two about what determination and grit is. They did not just make it to the top. Their hard work and humility took them there. And these inspirational words will motivate you to rise to the top too!

1. Sachin Tendulkar

"I have never thought where I will go, or forced any targets on myself."

"I am not thinking too far ahead, just want to take it one thing at a time."

2. Steve Jobs

"Your time is limited, don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is living the result of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other opinions drown your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… The ones who see things differently — they're not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things… They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do."

3. Narendra Modi

"Once we decide we have to do something, we can go miles ahead."

"Mind is never a problem. Mindset is."

4. Bill Gates

"Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose."

"Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning."

5. Messi

"I start early, and I stay late, day after day, year after year, it took me 17 years and 114 days to become an overnight success."

"I have many years to get better and better, and that has to be my ambition. The day you think there are no improvements to be made is a sad one for any player."

6. Rahul Dravid

"My wife and I have built a new home with a lovely garden which houses lovely bamboo trees. I got reading on the Chinese bamboo and learned that the tree takes 5 years, 3 months to grow to its whole height of 80 feet. Yet, for the first 5 years, you can only see a tiny green shoot, but in the next 90 days, it grows into a full-fledged tree. But in those first 60 months, it is growing its strong network of roots underground, to support the tree. In an era of instant gratification, we settle for shorter trees, but remember patience has its reward. These are your years of growing that strong network of roots but be sure when you finally achieve your success, people will call it 'overnight success'. If only they knew of the Chinese bamboo!"

"You get an image in the first couple of years of your career, and then whether you like it or not, you are stuck with it for the rest of your life."

7. A.P.J Abdul Kalam

"Look at the sky. We are not alone. The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give the best to those who dream and work."

"You have to dream before your dreams can come true."

8. Mahatma Gandhi

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."

9. Confucius

"It does not matter how slowly you go, so long as you do not stop."

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do."

10. Albert Einstein

"In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity."

"Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning."

11. Walt Disney

"The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting."

"All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them."

12. Jawaharlal Nehru

"Life is like a game of cards. The hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will."

"Our chief defect is that we are more given to talking about things than to doing them."

[Fropki] Images That Show The Worst Of What Humanity Has Done To The Earth

Kim Kardashian Promoting 'Beauty Hair' Hair Line

The worst problems that humanity is facing today are that of overpopulation and over-development. In our bid to expand, we're not only exhausting all our natural resources, but we're also degrading the environment in the process. This expansion has led to many species becoming extinct; reckless deforestation has affected the ecosystem we and other animals live in. These 17 pictures will give you a glimpse of just what humans have done to the only planet known to support life.

These images have been sourced from the book Overdevelopment, Overpopulation, Overshoot put together by environmental awareness platform Global Population Speak Out.

1. The effects of global warming can be seen on this melting iceberg near Svalbard Island near Norway.

2. The tar rich region in Alberta has been excessively mined and suffers from toxic pollution.

3. The natural vegetation in the region of Almeria in Spain has been replaced with greenhouses for farming.

4. Even countries as remote as Mongolia haven't remained untouched by pollution. It's difficult to even breathe near the Yellow River.

5. Fire rages on at an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico as seen in this picture from 2010.

6. Growing population has led to forests being cut down to make place for farms. Like this palm plantation in Indonesia.

7. The thirst for oil is insatiable. The Ken River oil field in the US has been drilled continuously since 1899.

8. The forest region in the Amazon rain-forest in Brazil being burnt to clear way for people and domestic animals.

9. Probably the worst affected by deforestation, the National Willamette forest in Oregon, US, is 99% deforested.

10. The world's biggest excavator, called the Bagger 288, located in the Tagebau Hambach mine in Gemany, is used to mine coal.

11. Electronic waste from developed nations ends up in third world countries for reprocessing. A view of the land fill in Accra, Ghana.

12. A scene from a land fill in Bangladesh shows the extent of garbage we produce.

13. This picture shot off the coast of Java, Indonesia, the most populated island in the world, shows a surfer in a wave full of garbage.

14. One of the most populated cities in the world, Mexico City's boundary extends as far as the eye can see.

15. An albatross that died of excessive plastic ingestion. Recycling plastic is the only way to get rid of it.

16. The islands in Maldives have seen regular flooding due to rising sea levels over the past few years. It will probably sink in the next 50 years.

17. The biggest diamond mine in the world, the Mir Mine in Russia. Diamond mining is one of the biggest causes of pollution in the world.

Maelstrom: One Drop Makes the Whole World Kin

Anne Waldman

About This Poem

“This poem is a prayer or incantation for understanding the vicissitudes of the world’s perpetual (and more and more man-made), inflected chaos. The repeated question: ‘what happens?’ is perhaps a useless query. There is no stopping ‘what happens.’ All the poet can do is sound her complaint and awareness, naming trouble spots, calling on religious mantras to further sound the alarm. Praying for a more salutary New Year that will wake the world to itself.”
Anne Waldman

Anne Waldman is the author of over forty books of poetry, including Gossamurmur (Penguin Books, 2013). She is a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and the artistic director of the Jack Kerouac School’s Summer Writing Program at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado.

Old men [and women] ought to be explorers.
Here and there does not matter. We must be still
And still moving, into another intensity
For a further union, a deeper communion...
~ T. S. Eliot (The Four Quartets)

Shocking Activities with Crocodiles

When you think of crocodiles, you probably don't think of the friendliest, cuddliest creatures on the planet. If you imagine one lumbering up to you on the shore, your first thought is probably to get very far away very fast. Normally, you'd be right.

Yet there's one place in the world where crocodiles and humans live in harmony. It's a place where children swim alongside the massive reptiles while their moms look on from the shore. No human has ever been harmed by a crocodile in the Ghanian village of Paga, home to some of the most docile specimens of crocodile ever recorded.

[Fropki] 10 Guru Nanak Lessons That Make Sense Even Today

Posted: 15 Apr 2015 08:50 PM PDT

Mind-Bending Photos Questioning Laws Of Physics

Five centuries after the passing of Guru Nanak, his words still resonate with his followers.  Let's take a look at 10 of his teachings that make sense to this day.

1. Never forget the poor.

This mantra was relevant in 1500 when there was no concept of poverty alleviation, and is just as relevant now, when poverty hasn't left the world.  When Nanak was 12, his father gave him Rs. 20 to set up a business. Nanak bought food worth Rs. 20 and gave it away. When his father asked him about this investment, Nanak told him it was a "true business".

Today, a Gurudwara named Sacha Sauda (true business) exists, where Guru Nanak fed the poor.

2. There is one God.

Using religion to segregate people into categories is awful. In the Guru's own words, "There is neither Hindu nor Muslim."

On his visit to Hardiwar, he saw people offering the water of the Ganges towards the sun in the east, as an offering to their ancestors in heaven. He began to throw water towards the West. When others ridiculed him, he said: "If Ganges water will reach your ancestors in heaven, why should the water I throw not reach my fields in the Punjab, which are far less distant?"

3. Women are equal to men.

At a time when other Indian religions wanted quiet, demure women in the temple and no women in the mosque, he permitted women to join religious gatherings and openly sing their praises of God.

4. Running away to a forest won't give you enlightenment.

"…Remember the essence of religion/ Is meekness and sympathy/ But a life of goodness and purity/ Amid the world's temptations…" (Guru Nanak)

Maybe one could achieve enlightenment in forests centuries ago, but we're not capable of that today. And Guru Nanak doesn't even require you to do that. He believed that living as a householder was better than going away for a divine truth. Nanak himself was a farmer even after achieving enlightenment.

5. These five evils are probably ruining your life.

a. Ego b. Anger c. Greed d. Attachment and e. Lust.

Most, if not all, suffering of big city life comes from these five evils.

6. Find your own guru.

You need a mentor to guide you on how to live right. In Guru Nanak's words, living right is much superior to visiting pilgrimage destinations.

7.  Be selfless.

The Punjab Golden Temple feeds over a 100,000 people of all religions every single day. Not because there is some divine gain, but because it is a sacred duty. For Nanak, the concept of selfless service was a way of life.

8.  Fight superstition of any kind.

Nanak devoted his life to attacking formal rituals, caste, and practices that didn't make any sense. This is the simplest way you can find meaning and purpose in your own life – cutting out the clutter of what society dictates you should do.

9. Simplicity is beautiful.

It is not hard to practice the tenets of Sikhism. There are only 3!

Vand Chako: Sharing with others
Kirat Karo: Making an honest living
Naam Japna: Remembering God at all times

10. Travel!

There is much to be gained from your journeys.  At a time when religious leaders never ventured out of their villages, Guru Nanak walked, yes, walked, to Iraq, Ladakh, Tibet and Saudi Arabia!

The Nothing That Is

As Academy Chancellor Mark Doty has written, “One ambition of poetry is to create a reverberant silence in its wake, one that means more or differently than the silence that preceded the poem.” All year long, we celebrate poetry’s ability to create meaning in our lives. And, for National Poetry Month, we encourage you to find inspiration in the following poems about the act of writing and the art of poetry.

Ars Poetica” by Archibald MacLeish
Take the I Out” by Sharon Olds

The Snow Man” by Wallace Stevens
Always on the Train” by Ruth Stone
Language” by W. S. Merwin
