Christianity in India dates as far back as 52 A.D when St Thomas landed in coastal Kerala, and was successful in converting the local Jewish population into Syrian Christians. The religious movement gained momentum and spread across the country with the arrival of trade-driven colonial powers like the Portuguese, British and French who built magnificent churches in the respective parts of the country that they colonised. Many of these churches still stand to this day, reminding us of their illustrious past and proving that globalisation may not be as contemporary as we think.
