Ramzan, the holy month of self-abstinence, also brings in its festivities things that everyone can feast on. No caste, no creed, no colour, no age, no sex, no state, no territories. Just the pure joy of sharing a meal together as the sun goes down.
Here's a look at a few relishing treats you must try this Ramzan. Go on, devour!
1. Nihari at Crawford Market.
Nihari is meat cooking with marrow over hours. So imagine what it tastes like! This place is situated near Pydhonie police station, opposite a mosque. Make sure you go by 7:30 PM else you'll be left staring at other tables. The nihari here is a fast seller.
2. Baida roti at Jogeshwari.
Marinated meat wrapped in roti. Don't go by its miniature look, because it's heavy.
3. Crispy chicken at Khairani Road, Andheri East.
It literally is crispy chicken. Worth a visit.
4. Haleem at Jogeshwari.
Halim is tender meat cooked over hours with wheat and dal. Not everyone can get the taste right. And that's why the street food near Jogeshwari is where we recommend you go.
5. Chicken pakoras at Khairani Road, Andheri East.
This isn't the regular chicken chilly. They call it chicken pakoras and the marination will tickle your taste buds.
6. Mutton kabab pav at Khairani Road, Andheri East.
These tiny meat kababs don't wear the usual look of kababs but they are delicious and how!
7. Kheema samosas at Kurla.
You will never want to have aloo samosas again, unless of course, you are a vegetarian.
8. Mutton bun sandwich at Yaari Road.
It's got a somewhat modern name ('sandwich') for what's typically a well spiced mutton masala with a bun.
9. Seekh Kabab at Yaari Road and Mohammed Ali Road.
Well minced tender meat…smoked, what else does one want?
10. Teetar (patridges) at Mohammed Ali Road.
Simply taste it – that's all we have to say!
11. Bater (quail) at Mohammed Ali Road.
The spicy masala over the bater is to die for.
12. Chicken tandoori at Mohammed Ali Road.
The picture says it all…
13. For those of you who like 'spare parts' if you know what we mean. Dig in at Mohammed Ali Road.
14. Halwa puri at Yaari Road.
The puri is huge, really huge and the halwa is cooked in ghee and laced with dry fruits.
15. Malpua at Suleman Usman Mithaiwala, Mohammed Ali Road.
With eggs, without eggs, single, double, with cream on it, or without – it will blow your mind!
16. Firni at Yaari Road and Mohammed Ali Road.
Rice custard cooked in milk at the end of your food fiesta.
