Amber husk fluted with gold, fruit on the sand marked with a rich grain,   treasure spilled near the shrub-pines to bleach on the boulders:   your stalk has caught root among wet pebbles and drift flung by the sea and grated shells and split conch-shells.   Beautiful, wide-spread, fire upon leaf, what meadow yields so fragrant a leaf as your bright leaf?            This poem is in the public domain. About This Poem   “Sea Poppies” was first published in Sea Garden (Constable and Company LTD, 1916).   H. D. was born in Pennsylvania in 1886. She was awarded a medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for her work, which included numerous novels and collections of poetry. She died in Switzerland in July of 1961. Poetry by H.
