Poems in Translation

As Edward Hirsch has written, translation “brings the world to our doorstep.” In this newsletter, we’ve gathered a roundup of poems, essays, and multimedia about translation to fill your final months of summer with travels of a different kind. Enjoy!

Read a selection of poems by translators who’ve won our translation awards in the past.

“Caesarion” by C. P. Cavafy, translated by Avi Sharon

“Birds in the Night” by Luis Cernuda, translated by Stephen Kessler

“Mirrors” by Tada Chimako, translated by Jeffrey Angles

“I, Up they soar” by Inger Christensen, translated by Susanna Nied

“Ivory Black [Dissolves]” by Myriam Moscona, translated by Jen Hofer

“Poem dedicated to Spatola” by Amelia Rosselli, translated by Jennifer Scappettone

“The Composition of the Text” by Adriano Spatola, translated by Paul Vangelisti

An ABC of Translating Poetry
