Again I reply to the triple winds running chromatic fifths of derision outside my window:                                           Play louder. You will not succeed. I am bound more to my sentences the more you batter at me to follow you.                                            And the wind, as before, fingers perfectly its derisive music.            This poem is in the public domain. About This Poem   “January” was published in Williams’s book Sour Grapes (The Four Seas Company, 1921).   William Carlos Williams was born in Rutherford, New Jersey. His books include Kora in Hell (The Four Seas Company, 1920) and Pictures from Brueghel and Other Poems (J. Laughlin, 1962). He died in New Jersey in March of 1963.
