Weddings are like festivals. In fact, often they're even grander. It's crowded, chaotic but still cheerful and happy. Despite all the meticulous planning and organising, there is positivity all around. But amid all this positivity some people who ruin it with comments that are not only mean but very hurtful. Although some things that are said might mean well but they often end up sounding crass and frivolous.

On the most important day for a girl and boy, don't you think it's impolite to pass hurtful comments? Imagine yourself in their shoes! To help you avoid being that discourteous person even by mistake, here are 15 things you should never say at weddings:

1. "Wow, now that you are getting hitched, when will you have a baby?"

 

I mean, come on! Whatever happened to living one day at a time? As it is, it's a big step for the guy and the girl to agree to spend the rest of their lives with each other. Without having spent even a single day post marriage, don't you think the 'baby' question comes a tad soon? Give them a break! We know you mean well, but leave it to them to do all the family planning.

 

2. "How much did you spend on this wedding?"

 

Okay, first things first, asking this question is a sin! Not only is this rude, it's also unnecessary because nobody can tell you the exact amount spent. Especially not on the wedding day itself! Cut them some slack, and even if you just have to, wait a few days post the wedding.

 

3. "The catered food is so bad. I think I'm gonna go home and eat"

 

Even if the food is bad, you don't have to be so vocal about it. Many times the catered food isn't up to your expectations, but can't you be a bigger person and let it go even if you don't like it? There's always takeout or good ole' Maggi at home. Bad food is not the end of the world! Okay it is, but courtesy is more important, fellas!

 

4. "These people didn't invite the groom's cousin brother's daughter's son"

 

So what if XYZ person didn't make the cut? You did, so why can't you leave it at that? In fact, how can you be so sure that it was that particular individual's choice to not attend the wedding? The list of probable answers can be endless. It's better to seal those lips and enjoy yourself with the people who made it to the wedding.

 

5. "The DJ is playing such crappy music. Must be a cheap one that's why"

 

Weddings and cost-cutting go hand in hand. Some people try to save cost on food while others do it in décor or music. It's natural. Instead of concentrating on the music, enjoy the people who are giving you company on the dance floor. You'll forget about the music and enjoy yourself more with the people once you don't pay attention to it.

 

6. "I'm giving them Rs 1001 shagan (Cash gift) even though they gave just Rs 500 on my sister's wedding"

 

This is just nasty. A gift is a gift. The value doesn't count, the emotion does. Even if this is the reason, you should keep it to yourself. 

 

7. "Getting stuck with one person is a damn big commitment. I don't know about you, but I'm afraid I won't be able to do it"

 

This is for all the cynical people out there. No, it is not wrong to have such an opinion, but it is extremely wrong to say it to those people who are already past this and are about to take a step forward in the opposite direction. Being a little supportive won't hurt!

 

8. "Divorce rates are so high these days, let's see how long this marriage lasts!"

 

This is called overstepping the line. Who are we to judge someone's marriage? Besides, aren't we taught that we should never speak ill of others? It's just disrespectful. This statement is totally uncalled for. Period.

 

9. " The bride is wearing such a crappy lehenga and her jewellery looks absolutely fake"

 

For a girl, her wedding is the most important day of her life. She puts in so much effort to look her best on D-day. If you disapprove of her choices, don't you think you should keep it to yourself instead of saying it out loud? Especially not on her wedding day! Besides, everyone has their own choices, one thing might be beautiful for you but it's probably not for others.


10. "She is too good for him. Langoor ke haath mein angoor"

 

Couples are made in heaven. Haven't we heard this one very often? So what if the girl is better than the guy or vice versa? If they are happy together, who are we to judge, right? After all, it's not about how perfect your better half is, it's about how you bring out the best in each other and shine bright as a couple.

 

11. "She/He  is marrying him/her for the money"

 

Did he /she tell you this? Even if they did, it's their decision! If you disapprove of the alliance, don't attend the wedding. Simple. If you can't be happy for someone, don't spoil it with nasty comments because karma is a bitch. What if you get to hear the same comments on your special day? Scary, right?!

12. "The guy's parents disapprove of the girl"

 

One should never bask in someone's misery. Instead, give her moral support.

 

13. "Thank god, she found a suitable husband before turning 30"

 

Come on, gone are the days when getting married at a given age was the norm. Priorities have changed over the years. People are more focused on making a career, standing on their feet and then taking the plunge. So many people get hitched after 30, by choice, and not because they can't find a suitable match.

 

14. "The girl's family has gifted the boy a small car! Mr. Chaddha gave his son-in-law an SUV!"

 

One should think beyond materialism. As I said earlier, the emotion behind a gift is more important than the gift itself. There should be no competition. Even if a father wishes to gift his daughter a car, shouldn't it be their call what car it should be?

 

15. "Her mehendi isn't dark! This proves that her husband/in-laws won't love her"

 

This one takes the cake. It's such an absurd thing to say and surprisingly it's heard very often. It is one of the most common superstitions. The color of a bride's henna/mehendi does not signify her future. Trust me, no educated person would want to be caught saying this particular statement. Absolute faux pas!

Most of us don't take dehydration very seriously and don't know that it can be the cause of many health issues. Even if you are spending an hour outside in this extremely hot weather it can still leave you dripping and if you are not keeping your body hydrated enough in this weather and not replacing what you have lost then you might be setting yourself up for trouble. Here are five weird signs that you might not know but are the obvious signs of dehydration.


1. Not sweating enough?

For people who sweat a lot, not sweating enough is the sign of extreme dehydration. Your body might be at risk if your are not sweating enough because that is the point when your body's regulating system stops working. Not only you will you stop sweating, but will be at risk for over-heating as well, as the heat stays trapped inside the body and core temperatures rises which is also known as heat stroke.
 

2. Falling sick often?

Chronic dehydration can do a lot of harm to your body. According to a research when your organs don't get enough water they are not able to replenish the nutrients in the cells they need. This leads to lack of moisture in your mouth, nose and throat and makes you fall sick often.


3. No amount of gymming or dieting is working for you?

There are times when your body confuses thirst with hunger. According to a research dehydration slows the metabolism, negatively affects your body's ability to burn fat, and encourages excess calorie consumption.

4. Craving for sweets often?

When you exercise in a dehydrated state your body uses the stored sugar in your body at a faster rate and when you end up exercising without hydrating your body it will automatically tell you to replenish your glycogen levels and hence the craving.


5. Suffering from bad breath

Water helps produce saliva and helps to keep bad breath at bay. But when you are dehydrated you produce less saliva leaving you with a stinky mouth.

today i am a black woman in america
& i am singing a melody ridden lullaby
it sounds like:
              the gentrification of a brooklyn stoop
              the rent raised three times my wages
              the bodega and laundromat burned down on the corner
              the people on the corner
                            each lock & key of their chromosomes
                            a note of ash & inquiry on their tongues
 

today i am a black woman in a hopeless state
i will apply for financial aid and food stamps
           with the same mouth i spit poems from
i will ask the angels of a creative god to lessen
           the blows
& i will beg for forgiveness when i curse
           the rising sun
 

today, i am a black woman in a body of coal
i am always burning and no one knows my name
i am a nameless fury, i am a blues scratched from
the throat of ms. nina—i am always angry
i am always a bumble hive of hello
i love like this too loudly, my neighbors
think i am an unforgiving bitter
             sometimes, i think my neighbors are right
             most times i think my neighbors are nosey
 

today, i am a cold country, a storm
brewing, a heat wave of a woman wearing
red pumps to the funeral of my ex-lover’s
 

today, i am a woman, a brown and black &
brew woman dreaming of freedom
 

today, i am a mother, & my country is burning
             and i forgot how to flee
from such a flamboyant backdraft
                        —i’m too in awe of how beautiful i look
            on fire

About This Poem

 

“‘litany’ was written after the anniversary of ‘I Wish I Knew How It Felt to Be Free,’ made famous by Nina Simone. And I sat with what that meant, years later—when I am still wishing for a certain type of freedom. To think of the time passing but of senseless deaths of black and brown bodies remaining. The poem was a mulling of all that has changed and all that has not. Injustice has not changed. Poverty has not changed. The idea that I am writing from poem to check to mouth/house is no coincidence. And the building on my corner was most certainly burned to the ground, leaving folks homeless. Within two weeks there was talk of building condos. And my neighbors and I, free to watch, stood on the opposite corner of the destroyed building as contractors stomped in and out of the remains. Someone smiled loudly about the ‘new multimillion-dollar building plans.’ And it didn’t feel like freedom at all.”

We are not the generation that would take out a vacuum cleaner to clean our homes. Yet we want to keep everything spic and span. Quick little tricks that don't take too much time and patience is what we need. To manage our household chores better, we're bringing you 15 cleaning hacks that will make our work easier. You can thank us later!  

1. Remove water rings on furniture with a blow dryer.  

Personally, I think water rings are one of the most stubborn marks and don't go away easily. But a hair dryer is what helps. All you need to do is keep the blow dryer really close to the ring and it'll disappear in no time. 

2. Carpet stains can be removed easily with an iron. 

Carpets and rugs need massive cleaning. What to do? It's simple, just spray a mix of 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar on the rug, and iron it for 30 seconds. 

3. Use lemon to clean spots on metal and stainless steel faucets.  

Have you ever wondered why most utensils detergents have lemon in them? It's because lemon has cleaning properties. Use sliced lemon and rub it on your metal or stainless steel faucets and you'll see them shining. Lemon helps in removing rust as well. 

4. Make your keyboard shine with an old tooth brush. 

We don't think much about cleaning our keyboards, even though they are the dirtiest of things in our surroundings. Unplug the keyboard, dust its top and between its keys with an old toothbrush. 

5. Remove stains on cloth with a chalk. 

Chalk has superb absorbing qualities. All you have to do is rub the stain with chalk. 

6. Acetone on a microfiber cloth will help you get rid of nail paint stains. 

Pour some acetone on a microfiber cloth and apply it on the stain, and it should vanish within seconds. 

7. Grate raw potato to clean your grater.

The grater is another tool that's hard to clean, especially, if you grated cheese with it, because that refuses to go away. We use potato because its hardness  along with the oxalic acid helps in bidding goodbye to sticky cheese. 

8. Coffee stains will vanish easily with the help of baking soda. 

9. Make a ball of aluminium foil and add some soap to it for the the perfect cleaner for your baking dishes. 

We all love crumbling our aluminium foil and that's what we have to do here. Make that ball, add some soap cleaner and scrub like a boss. 

10. Coca Cola works well with oil stains too. 

Yup, in fact, Coca Cola is considered great at restoring stained carpets, clothes, curtains and more. 

11. Toothpaste can make your old sneakers look like a new pair. 

Toothpaste is a magical ingredient. It can help you clean a lot of things including your car's headlights and a lot more. Toothpaste helps remove pimples too, but let's leave that for another story.  

12. Toothpaste can also help make your engagement ring shine 

13. How to clean a hair brush? Use your shampoo. 

Dip it in shampoo for a while. That's it. 

14. Use a razor to clean the paint on your clothes. 

15. Clean your earpods with a little amount of warm liquid or a dry tooth brush. 

Earpods need to be cleaned. Don't believe people if they tell you otherwise. Just put some warm water on your finger tip, yes that's what we mean by 'little' and rub the ear buds. You could use rubbing alcohol as well, although rubbing with a dry brush will do the job too.

Dear Members,

We have been receiving many complaints from our members about the mails going into the SPAM folder.

To prevent this problem:

You need to add the address : fropki@yahoogroups.com in your address book.


REGARDING SPAM:
All Members are requested to report any ABUSE or SPAM by other members of the Group. Any member who is found guilty of any such violations will be BANNED from the Group immediately and will be Reported to Yahoo! for further action. Members may report the issue by Forwarding us the mail at admin@fropky.com and make sure that you copy and paste the Full Header of the mail along with the reported mail.
