We understand that with all the various pressures, deadlines, traffic jams, pending bills and weird sleep schedules we all deal with splitting headaches every now and then. If you're one of those who quickly pop a pill to get rid of it, this is for you. Here are a few quick home remedies that can help you deal with the pain and without any long term effects.
1. Ginger
Ginger is known to reduce inflammation of the blood vessels in the head, hence helps in reducing the pain. All you need to do is grate some ginger, boil it in water for some time and consume this once or twice a day.
2. Lavender oil
Lavander itself has a very soothing fragrance and can be a great remedy for alleviating headaches. Add few drops of lavender oil in boiling water and inhale it. Another thing you can do is add a few drops of almond oil with it and massage your forehead to ease out the pain.
3. Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a magic spice that can successfully treat headaches. Here's how to use it: Grind some cinnamon sticks into a powder and add some water to make a thick paste. Apply it on your forehead and temples and take a nap for 30 minutes. Then wash it off with lukewarm water and you can thank us later!
4. Do simple stretches
Few simple stretches can actually help reduce the intensity of the headache. Just move your chin upwards and downwards, left and right and bend your neck sideways towards the shoulder and the headache will be reduced to a great extent.
5. Holy basil
Simply put 3 or 4 freshly plucked holy basil leaves in a cup of boiling water and let it simmer. Add a little honey, black pepper and sip the tea slowly. You can also chew some fresh basil leaves, or inhale the steam after boiling basil in a pot of water.
6. Apple with some salt
The saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" is quite true because they help to restore the acid-alkaline balance in the body. If you wake up with a headache, simply eat a piece of apple sprinkled with salt and sip some warm water after. Or if not apple then simply add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water, with honey and some lemon juice. Drink it 2 or 3 times a day and you are sorted.
