Help grow the resources at Poets.org

Dear Friend,

Twenty years ago, the Academy of American Poets became the first poetry organization to make poems, poets’ biographies, and educational resources for K–12 teachers freely available online by launching Poets.org.

You have played an important role in reaching this milestone! We don’t have an endowment supporting Poets.org, and since the site’s earliest days, we have relied on your charitable gifts and those of our partners to produce the site. And look at what you’ve helped us accomplish! Today Poets.org is:

• one of the world’s top poetry destinations online, visited by tens of millions of readers each year;

• a leading digital publisher of contemporary poets. Each year Poets.org is the first place of publication for more than 260 of today’s poets, whose poems are distributed to an unprecedented 350,000 readers each morning;

• a trustworthy hub for thousands of teachers and their students. Poets.org offers an unmatched quantity of poetry lesson plans, activities, and projects prepared by expert curriculum writers; and

• the central source of information for nationwide poetry events listings, National Poetry Month, and Poem in Your Pocket Day, in which thousands of young people participate.

Quite simply, millions of readers depend on Poets.org, and—as the largest poetry website made possible by your charitable contributions—Poets.org depends on you.

This summer we aim to raise a special $5,000 so that we can bolster our selection of classic poems, which often have permissions fees, and enhance our site. These poems will be shared through Poem-a-Day during the weekend and then added to Poets.org to be enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of readers in the years ahead.

Thank you in advance for helping us serve more readers online at Poets.org! We are grateful for all your support of our programs.

Sincerely,

P.S. For twenty years, Poets.org has been the charitable poetry website made possible by ongoing contributions from generous readers like you. Please help us share even more poems online!
