Announcing 3 New Chancellors, the 1st Poem-a-Day Guest Editor, Poems for the New Year & More
In "The Year," Ella Wheeler Wilcox writes, "We laugh, we weep, we hope, we fear, / And that's the burden of the year." Whatever 2018 has to bring, begin a new year of resolve, growth, and change with this selection of poems to read and share.
We're excited to introduce our first Poem-a-Day guest editor of 2018, Kaveh Akbar, founder and editor of Divedapper and author of Calling a Wolf a Wolf (Alice James Books, 2017). Find out more about Akbar and sign up for Poem-a-Day to see the poems he selected this month.
American poetry lost some major voices in 2017. Join us in remembering the poets we lost in this brief in memoriam video, featuring lines from their poetry.

Doing More for Poetry in 2018
Thanks to your incredible generosity this giving season, we have surpassed our year-end fundraising goal! As a nonprofit organization, the Academy of American Poets relies on the support of readers like you in order to advocate for poets and grow the audience for this important art form. Thank you to those who have made our free programs and publications possible!
Honoring C. D. Wright The Foundation of Contemporary Arts has announced the new C. D. Wright Award for Poetry, in memory of Wright, who served on our Board of Chancellors from 2013 until her death in 2016.
The Academy of American Poets is supported in part by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
