About This Poem

 

"An Adieu" was published in the July 1913 issue of Harper's.

 

Florence Earle Coates was born on July 1, 1850, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is the author of several poetry collections, including Pro Patria (Philadelphia, 1917) and The Unconquered Air (Houghton Mifflin, 1912). A former poet laureate of Pennsylvania, she died on April 6, 1927, in Philadelphia.
