Announcing the Winner of the 2020 National Poetry Month Poster  Contest for Students

 

We're thrilled to announce the winner of the 2020 National Poetry Month Poster Contest for Students! Artwork by tenth grader Samantha Aikman from Vermont has been selected by renowned cartoonist Alison Bechdel and former U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera to be featured on the official poster, which we'll distribute to over 100,000 schools, libraries, and bookstores nationwide. The poster will also be available to download for free.

Introducing the 2020 Dear Poet Project

 

Every National Poetry Month, the Academy of American Poets reaches thousands of students through our multimedia education project, Dear Poet. This year, we're excited to include more award-winning poets than ever before, as poets laureate from eleven states, cities, and counties are participating alongside twelve poets from our Board of Chancellors—including U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo. Read poems by these poets and watch videos of them reading their work for the 2020 Dear Poet project!

A highlight of the annual Dear Poet project is its multimedia component, as students are able to view a video of each participating poet reading his or her poem aloud.
