Dear Friend, Our Chancellor Edward Hirsch offered a reminder recently of the importance of poetry. It is, he said, "a human fundamental, like music, and we need to encourage the song, which is a means of exchange, a form of reciprocity, a magic to be shared, a gift." This December, we are working to raise funds to encourage more people to explore the art of poetry in the year ahead. Please consider a special contribution to the Academy of American Poets on the eve of its 80th anniversary. The work we will do in 2014 is only possible with your support. Poetry matters greatly. Hirsch continued, "It sends us messages from the interior. It connects us more deeply to ourselves while also linking us to others." Thank you for being connected to us, and helping us connect to more readers, educators, and poets than ever before. Sincerely, Jennifer Benka Executive Director P.S. We'll be happy to send you an exclusive Emily Dickinson notebook with a $50 donation or more. |
