There are some sayings and words of advice that we hear too often in our lives. Whether they are meant to inspire or just said at the spur of the moment, reality often rips them apart to reveal their true identity.
Her's why they are so stupid in the context of today.
1. No such thing as a stupid question
Said every open minded teacher and business leader ever, because there are plenty of curious souls who ask the stupidest things out of ignorance or just to push their luck. If you have worked in the services industry like hospitality or retail, you would probably know.
2. Good things come to those who wait
Said every procrastinator and fan of Narendra Modi. Good things come to those who get out of their comfort zone and make things happen.
3. Ignore them and they'll go away
If you had bullies while growing up, you probably would know this to be true. Whether you entertain the twit or ignore him, you still face his wrath.
4. That's the way we've always done things around here
Rough translation: I'm too lazy or uninterested to learn a new way of doing the same thing. Typically used by old folks in the army or in a corporate setting with strict protocol.
5. The sky's the limit
Rough translation: I don't know what I'm talking about but I'll still try to sound optimistic to catch your interest.
6. Just be yourself
In a judgemental society that's always making up different standards for everything like ours, go take a hike!
7. You're either with us or against us
Umm.. anyone care to tell me where the "doesn't give a rat's ass" club is?
8. Everything happens for a reason
If there is conclusive evidence like the butterfly effect (i.e. a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a hurricane in another part of the world).. Call me.
9. Boys will be boys
Please do not use that as an excuse to justify your failure as a parent. Slap your sons when they are shitty little a-holes. It works wonders :)
10. Sleep like a baby
If waking up every couple of hours and crying your head off is your definition of a good night's sleep. Have it your way.
11. Blood is thicker than water
If you think this means family ties are more important than friendship, you couldn't be more wrong. This phrase has another interpretation which goes as "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" which basically means bonds formed with others can be stronger than family relations. Some of us are actually closer to our friends than our actual family.
