Do you know that teeth whitening is a multi-billion industry? But most of these whitening products have harsh chemicals which can slowly erode the enamel and leave your teeth feeling sensitive. The whitening chemicals also get absorbed through the skin of the mouth. Here are some safer ways to whiten your teeth instead.
1. Coconut oil pulling or swishing
Oil pulling is an Indian remedy used to improve the oral health and cleanse the mouth. The process is very simple and inexpensive; all you need to do is take one tablespoon of virgin coconut oil and simply swish it around in your mouth for 15-20 minutes. After moving the oil around your mouth spit it out and thoroughly rinse your mouth with water.
2. Charcoal
Activated charcoal also known as activated carbon is known to naturally absorb chemicals and toxins from the body. Though it is very messy to use and makes your teeth look dark when using it, but is an amazing thing to whiten your teeth with.
3. Baking soda and lemon
It is the most common natural teeth whitening remedy. The combination of baking soda with lemon leaves a sparkling smile effect. Simply brush with this solution once a week, also don't use it everyday because it can wear away the tooth enamel if used too frequently.
4. Turmeric
Turmeric is a widely used spice in Indian food and has many health benefits as well. It is known to stain things permanently but surprisingly it is used to whiten the teeth. It is advisable to mix your turmeric with a spoon of coconut oil to make cleansing much better.
5. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider has many health benefits and is a wonderful cure for yellow teeth. It is made from fermented apples and is rich in essential minerals.
6. Lemon and orange peels
Next time instead of throwing the peels away, try and rub them on your teeth for a sparkling white smile. To make it work better, try and swish half water and half hydrogen peroxide in your mouth and leave it in for at least a minute.
7. Strawberries
Strawberries contain enzyme called malic acid and vitamin c. Using a paste of few strawberries and brushing with the mixture once or twice a week can give you good results. You can also simply eat strawberries, making sure to chew really well and allowing them to do the brushing on their own.
8. Food grade hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide helps to prevent the growth of bacteria, prevent infections and bad breath. All you need to do is simply swish some food-grade hydrogen peroxide around in your mouth for a few seconds, than spit it out.
