More than monuments

Dear Friend,

Poetry is "one kind of knowledge—infinitely precious, time-resistant more than monuments," the poet Muriel Rukseyser once wrote.

Whether we read poems seeking insight into the human condition, inspiration to uplift our spirits, the opportunity to learn about one another, or memorable experiences with language, the knowledge we gain from poems is enduring and life-enriching.

Yet, poetry, as one of the most underfunded art forms in our country, has always needed the support and backing of people like you.

Only with your help can we publish and distribute new poems each morning in Poem-a-Day and on Poets.org, introduce poets to new readers, and ensure that the next generation has the opportunity to learn about American poets and poetry.

We need to raise $34,000 more by December 31 to meet our fundraising goal and continue to deliver our publications and programs in the year ahead.

Please take a moment today to join in our work to keep poetry a part of the cultural conversation in our country.

Thank you for your generous response. My best wishes to you for the holiday season!

Warmly,

Jen
