"I should get that done; I'll do it later." Sound familiar? It's called procrastination and we all do it, but for some women it's a way of life. Procrastination makes you feel both indecisive and guilty – indecisive because you choose to postpone what must be done and guilty for not doing, now, what you need to do. The more often you procrastinate, the weaker you feel. If you're in the habit of putting things off, try this. Next time you're faced with a project, take a look at what you want to accomplish. Tune into the reasons for your resistance and then honestly ask yourself, "Is this something I can start, now?" Most of the time the answer is "Yes." So, start! See yourself as someone who makes solid decisions. When you commit to something honor yourself and stick with it until it's done. You'll empower yourself and the desire to procrastinate will, slowly, disappear. ©Jane Powell Joy that is conditional is not joy at all. It is merely fleeting pleasure that will be gone the moment conditions change. Real joy is and will always be. Nothing can take it away. Real joy cannot be earned, attained or achieved. It is there when you accept it and allow it. Agreeable conditions and pleasurable circumstances are not the cause of joy. Rather, it's the other way around. When you live with joy, that joy infects the world around you. When you live each moment with joy, you see that joy reflected back to you from all directions. Let the joy of living flow forth from you, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. And see what a real, positive difference it can make. Face the difficulties The difficult choices become even more difficult when you persist in avoiding them. Instead of running away from those difficult choices, face them and make your decision. As difficult as it may be, the sooner you decide, the sooner you can begin to create positive value. Go ahead, and get started transforming a difficult situation into an opportunity to move forward. Hesitation and indecisiveness will only enable things to get worse. Make the decision, get started taking action, and get moving in the direction of making things better. You can make a difference, so get busy making that difference. There's no sense in wasting your energy on avoiding the inevitable. Put your fate in your own hands by choosing to quickly deal with life's difficulties. Feel how good and right it feels to be decisive and persistently effective. Say what must be said, decide what must be decided, and do what must be done. The sooner and more willingly you face the difficulties, the sooner you'll get beyond them. Ralph Marston |
