About This Poem

"The Definition of Love" appeared in Miscellaneous Poems (Robert Boulter, 1681).

Andrew Marvell was born on March 31, 1621, in Yorkshire, England. Considered one of the great poets of the seventeenth century, Marvell published very little of his poetry during his lifetime. His collection, Miscellaneous Poems, was published in 1681, several years after his death on August 16, 1678.
