Dear Friends, In this season of giving, I'm asking for your help to sustain the work of the Academy of American Poets. As a faithful reader of poetry, you know the unique sustenance the art form provides. You appreciate how poets, working in solitude, create monuments with words, lasting lines that lift our spirits, document history, and elevate the everyday. As Robert Frost wrote, "The woods are lovely, dark, and deep./ But I have promises to keep,/ And miles to go before I sleep,/ And miles to go before I sleep." Please consider a special year-end contribution to the Academy of American Poets. Only with your help can the Academy keep its promise to support poets at all stages of their writing lives and to foster the appreciation of poetry in the U.S. Over the past year, we have offered a collection of seven major poetry prizes and given awards to more than 225 young poets in undergraduate programs across the U.S. We have inspired millions of readers with the poems and information about poets that we offer on Poets.org. And, we've shared a new poem each day-- a majority of which are previously unpublished-- through our Poem-A-Day project, which reaches more than 70,000 readers nationwide. But, like Frost had many miles to go, the Academy has much more work to do. In the past ten days we have raised $5,000 toward our goal of $10,000 to support our programs in the year ahead. You can help champion the art of poetry by supporting our work with a tax-deductible gift. In appreciation, we will send a copy of our Poem in Your Pocket anthology for all donations of $50 or more. Thank you in advance for joining in our work. Sincerely,
Jennifer Benka Executive Director, Academy of American Poets | | |
