Anushka Sharma Hot Bikini in Jab Tak Hai Jaan 1. Gumprecht's Green Pit Viper This striking bright green snake, commonly known as Gumprecht's green pit viper, is found in the Southeast Asian region of Greater Mekong. The serpent, which has the formal name Trimeresurus gumprechti, was first described by scientists in 2002, although he doesn't look like he appreciates having been discovered. 2. Snakefish In 2002, the snakefish (or Channidae) was described as "something from a bad horror movie" by US Interior Secretary Gale Norton. Some describe snakefish as having "a voracious appetite, often consuming all other fish in a lake or pond and even eating its young. It can slither across land, staying out of water for up to three days, to find new sources of food." Norton also warns that once on land "snakeheads can eat almost any small animal in its path
. They have even attacked people in China who got too close to snakeheads' egg nesting areas." According to Wikipedia, snakefish can be up to over a metre in length and over 6 kilograms in weight. Most snakefish are 2-3 feet long. They're also fast reproducers with no natural enemies outside of their native environments. Within their native environments, small snakefish are preyed upon by bigger fish, while full-grown snakefish are consumed by crocodiles and alligators. Because of their ability to move into new habitats and wipe out local ecosystems (and to then hop out of the water and mosey on over to another body of water and repeat the process) snakefish have been prohibited in 13 American states and other countries (e.g., Australia). 3. Giant Isopod This Predator look-alike is a Giant Isopod (Bathynomus giganteus), a carnivorous crustacean that spends its time scavenging the deep ocean floor, up to 6,000ft down on the seabed where there is no light. In the pitch black and cold, they survive by feasting on dead and decaying fish and other marine animals. 4. Aye-aye Considered by locals as a harbinger of misfortune, the Aye-aye is one of the world's most rare and bizarre looking primates. To the Malagasy people, the aye-aye is magical, and believed to bring death to the village it appears in; therefore they're often killed on sight. The aye-aye is the world's largest nocturnal primate with an average head and body length of 16 inches (40 centimeters), a long bushy tail of 2 feet (61 centimeters) long, and weighs about 4 pounds (2 kilos). The Aye-aye has large beady eyes, black hair, and large spoon-shaped ears. It has 5-fingered hands with flat nails, with a middle finger up to 3 times the length of the others. 5. Star-nosed Mole One of the most intriguing stars in the universe is right here on Earth: the eleven pairs of pink fleshy appendages ringing the snout of the star-nosed mole (Condylura cristata). From its appearance and location, one would think this star might be a supersensitive olfactory organ, helping the nearly blind mole negotiate its subterranean environment, or an extra hand for grasping prey or manipulating objects. Some researchers have hypothesized that the star detects electric fields, thus acting as a kind of antenna. But in reality, the star is an extraordinary touch organ with more than 25,000 minute sensory receptors, called Eimer's organs, with which this hamster-sized mole feels its way around. 6. Frilled Lizard The frilled lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingi) is a yellowish-brown australian lizard has got a large frill of skin to the sides of the neck and throat. It is about 90 cm/35 in long, and when is angry or alarmed, it erects its frill, which may be as much as 25cm/10 in in diameter, thus giving itself the appearance of being larger than it really is. Frilled lizards are generally tree-living but may spend some time on the ground, where they run with their forelimbs in the air. 7. Giant leaf-tailed Gecko The Giant leaf-tailed gecko (Uroplatus fimbriatus) is endemic to Madagascar and the islands Nosy Bohara and Nosy Mangabe. These geckos live in tropical rain forests and reach a total length of 330 mm. A large nocturnal gecko, by day it plasters it self to a small tree trunk and rests head down. If disturbed it will raise it tail and head, open its mouth and scream... and call his mom. 8. Kerivoula Kachinensis Another of the species found in one of the world's last scientifically unexplored regions, Asia's Greater Mekong, the Kerivoula Kachinensis is one of the most disturbing bats ever found. 9. Desert Mole Rat The Desert Mole Rat (Heterocephalus glaber) is a burrowing rodent native to parts of East Africa notable for its eusocial lifestyle, nearly unique among mammals, and for a highly unusual set of physical traits that enables it to thrive in a harsh, underground environment, including a lack of pain sensation in its skin, and a nearly cold-blooded metabolism. Plus, it is horrible. Click here to view Funny & Strange Pics ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Want More Such Mails for FREE? Poem-A-Day: Song by James Joyce Posted: 19 May 2013 03:04 AM PDT | | Song by James Joyce My love is in a light attire
Among the apple trees,
Where the gay winds do most desire To run in companies.
There, where the gay winds stay to woo The young leaves as they pass, My love goes slowly, bending to Her shadow on the grass.
And where the sky's a pale blue cup Over the laughing land, My love goes lightly, holding up Her dress with dainty hand. |

Kelly arriving at her home in London 1. Star registry Who owns the stars? Nobody, right? Therefore, you can put stars under your name and get certification for it! This, of course, comes with a price. International Star Registry (IRS),the original star registry that has been naming stars for people since 1979, allows you to do just that. Celebrities, dignitaries, and individuals all over the world have used its services to buy a star for friends and family. The IRS offers a gift package wherein a special star is selected in the sky and you get your Star Name and Star Date recorded along with it. The gift package includes a beautiful parchment certificate, a sky chart with your name and the star's coordinates, and an informative booklet on astronomy. All names in the astronomical compendium will be published in Your Place in the Cosmos©, which is registered in the U.S. Copyright Office. However, this is not recognized by the scientific community. Stars' names are only reserved in the International Star Registry. 2. Friend rental service We all grew up being someone's friend, but we never got paid for it. Well, today is an entirely different era. You can now get paid for being a friend. All you have to do is create your profile in RentAFriend.com, set your hourly rate, and wait for somebody who is interested in hanging out with you. It's a win-win situation right there. Rent A Friend allows you to create a free friendship profile, where you can charge up to $50 an hour to be rented for social events and activities such as weddings, sporting events, concerts, movies, operas, hiking, biking and dining. Site owner Scott Rosenbaum got the idea from dating sites. He noticed that nobody was offering mere friendship and he wanted to "go a step back" from dating sites. Therefore, this is a strictly platonic website. 3. Providing personal paparazzi Celebrities aren't the only ones that can have paparazzi all around them. Now, you can hire your personal paparazzi for a day! This is how Celeb4aday.com makes bucksby giving you the ultimate celebrity experience. It can be for birthdays, gag gifts, parties, bachelor & bachelorette parties, or ANY other event that requires The Star Treatment. Celeb4aday.com believes that the everyday person deserves the attention as much, if not more, than the real celebrities. 4. Face advertising By selling their faces as advertisement space in buymyface.com, Ed Moyes and Ross Harper were able to pay off their student debt, which was £50,000, and finish college. Harper and Moyse paint ads on their faces and then photographed or filmed themselves doing funny things. Advertisers can pay for them to do several stunts, such as skydiving or plunging into cold water. All this is put up on the website, along with the name of the day's advertiser. When the duo started off, their first ad went for exactly £1. The young entrepreneurs say that they made £3,500 in their first ten days of business. However, they've managed to sell their faces every single day. 5. Tutorial marketplace Student of Fortune is an online tutorial marketplace for those who need or can offer help with homework. If you're an expert on a subject, then go write great tutorials to earn lots of money, even thousands of dollars... all for helping students learn! All you have to do is look through other user's questions and find one that you think you can answer. Then, write up a custom tutorial that teaches the student how to solve the problem and submit it. 20% of the material will be shown, and if they think it's a good tutorial, they'll pay you for it! 6. Butterfly supplier Selling butterflies and making millions? It doesn't seem conceivable, but Jose Muniz has managed to pull it off. You can get your very own live butterfly from Jose, who started the business based on a bet. It all began when a friend bet him $100 that he could not sell butterflies for a living. Now, seven years later, the former business consultant and his wife, Karen, own Amazing Butterflies (amazingbutterflies.com), a live-butterfly distributor with offices in Tamarac, Fla. and San Jose, with a projected $1 million in revenue in 2006. 7. Virtual real estate Anshe Chung, or rather her real-life counterpart, Ailin Graef, has gained attention as the first person to reportedly become a real-world millionaire from her virtual-world business. How'd she do it? She bought, developed and sold virtual real estate. While much of her wealth is still tied up in Second Life's currency, Linden dollars, those can be sold for genuine U.S. dollars. Graef reportedly makes upward of $150,000 annually. Anshe Chung's achievement is all the more remarkable because the fortune was developed over a period of two and a half years from an initial investment of $9.95 for a Second Life account by Anshe's creator, Ailin Graef. Anshe/Ailin achieved her fortune by beginning with small scale purchases of virtual real estate which she then subdivided and developed with landscaping and themed architectural builds for rental and resale. Her operations have since grown to include the development and sale of properties for large scale real world corporations, and have led to a real life "spin off" corporation called Anshe Chung Studios, which develops immersive 3D environments for applications ranging from education to business conferencing and product prototyping. 8. Selling Irish dirt Alan Jenkins, a Belfast entrepreneur, and Pat Burke, an agricultural scientist from Tipperary, have already shifted around $1m (£512,000) of Irish muck to the United States. Their company, called Official Irish Dirt, has also received online contacts from Irish people all over the world who are keen to get their hands on dirt from back home. It was Jenkins who came up with the idea. During a visit to see friends in Florida he heard some Irish-Americans at a meeting of the Sons of Erin, a community organization for people with Irish ancestry, saying they would like to have some Irish sod placed on their funeral caskets. Soon afterward he met Burke, who worked at the Irish Department of Agriculture, at a dinner party and the business grew from there. Since Auld Sod's Web site, officialirishdirt.com, went online, Burke says he has shipped roughly $2 million worth to the United States, where about 40 million people claim Irish ancestry, and Enterprise Ireland estimates annual sales of Irish gifts at more than $200 million. 9. Socks subscription An entrepreneur from Switzerland named Samuel Liechti had a crazy idea to start a company that would distribute socks to subscribers several times throughout the year. For nine pairs, each "sockscriber" pays a minimum of $89 annually to keep the socks rolling in. Surprisingly enough, there is an immense amount of people who are too lazy to grab a pair of calf-high socks at the store and subscribe to this silly service. Each new "sockscriber" receives a calculation of how much time he will save by not making sock purchases: about 12 hours every year, or three weeks in the lifetime of an average Swiss male, which is estimated at 82 years. Liechti brought his "sock-scription" service to the U.S. in 2005. Two years later BlackSocks began selling subscriptions for underwear. Liechti now boasts 60,000 active customers in 74 countries. BlackSocks opened a New York office last year. 10. Geese police David Marcks discovered a lucrative business opportunity when he used his dog to solve a problem that he constantly faced while working at a golf course - the proliferation of geese. David started Geese Police in 1986 as the solution to driving away unwanted geese from town parks, corporate properties, golf courses, or even front lawns. Using trained border collies, they drive away the geese without harming them. Today, Geese Police has considerably grown and expanded, earning just under $2 million in 2000. David has also begun marketing his business to a highly selective group of individuals. Poem-A-Day: Spring Song by Sherwood Anderson Posted: 18 May 2013 03:04 AM PDT | | Spring Song by Sherwood Anderson
In the forest, amid old trees and wet dead leaves, a shrine. Men on the wet leaves kneeling. The spirit of God in the air above a shrine.
Now, America, you press your lips to mine, Feel on your lips the throbbing of my blood. Christ, come to life and life calling, Sweet and strong.
Spring. God in the air above old fields. Farmers marking fields for the planting of the corn. Fields marked for corn to stand in long straight aisles. In the spring I press your body down on wet cold new-plowed ground. Men, give your souls to me. I would have my sacred way with you.
In the forest, amid old trees and wet dead leaves, a shrine. Men rising from the kneeling place to sing. Everywhere in the fields now the orderly planting of corn.

[AffirmationstoDe-Stress] MORNING COFFEE Posted: 17 May 2013 11:42 PM PDT "To choose or not to choose…" The older we get, the more we realize that the choice to be happy or unhappy is our own. Sure, there will be times where things don't go our way. We'll feel unhappiness, sorrow, even depression. But, our agency determines how we cope with these challenges. This doesn't mean that we should feel guilty about being sad or depressed. Everyone experiences "down" days. Melancholy moments can bring great wisdom if we think them through. But, the truth is that you always have a choice. You can choose to stay stuck in unhappiness and resentment, or, choose to let go and feel fulfillment lighten your load. If you're unhappy, unsatisfied or merely ambiguous, make today the day you put it all behind you. Choose to feel the joy in your life again. You always have a choice. Why not make it great? ©Jane Powell If you have dreams, then you have a purpose At any time, you can decide to change the road you're on in life, take a new direction, follow a new trail. You are the only one who really knows what you want from life and if you're on the right road for you. You are the only one who can fulfill your dreams and receive the joys and happiness that come from reaching those aspirations and goals. Don't expect others to be responsible for your happiness and your success. You must take control and be in charge of your destiny and day-to-day situations. Take advice (most of the time it's free) and listen to what others have to say and what concerns they have; it's important to have different points of view. But always validate those words of wisdom with your own set of standards and make sure that the advice has meaning to your sense of reality. You must understand yourself enough to know what you want in life and what desires you believe are worthwhile for your future. You need to depend upon yourself and your talents. Appreciate others for their personal skills and abilities, but always continue to focus on your own strengths and energies. Life is much too short to spend it worrying about someone else's accomplishments or expecting someone else to be responsible for making your life better. If you have dreams, then you have a purpose. You have something to believe in and work towards obtaining. Dedicate yourself to yourself. Promise yourself a life filled with love, and then whatever roads you travel will be the roads you want them to be. Make reality your friend Though limiting factors can be a burden, they can also give you a solid, predictable framework in which to operate. What might at first seem to be an obstacle could end up providing valuable support. For example, the force of gravity makes it difficult to move a large, massive rock. Yet that same force will also ensure that the rock stays in place once you get it where you want it. Playing by the rules and adhering to a strictly defined discipline makes achievement more difficult. Yet it also plays an essential role in making achievement possible. No situation is inherently limiting. Because you have the ability to adjust and adapt and make positive use of whatever factors may be present. A massive brick wall can stop you cold, or it can provide you with a solid foundation upon which to build. It all depends on what you choose to do with what you encounter. Rather than judging something to be a limiting factor, do the work to make it an enabling factor. Make reality your friend by making positive use of it. Ralph Marston -

[AffirmationstoDe-Stress] MORNING COFFEE Posted: 17 May 2013 11:41 PM PDT "Collect happiness." We all experience days when we feel spiritually depleted – we feel down, uncared for, unloved. The world is not our oyster today. Yet, like many of our impressions, this too is an illusion. We are the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, even though our circumstances may try to persuade otherwise. This is when we need to the comfort of a "Happy Box." Take the time to make one for yourself and you will reap the benefits over and over. Fill your box with items that you collect over time: a special card from a favorite relative, your child's first attempt to write "I love you," a photo of you and your best friend. The pretty stone you found on vacation, your child's first tooth, the ribbon off a bunch of flowers from a caring friend; all help you to re-align your spirit and see the world as the wonder that it is. Your "Happy Box" represents tangible items of the love and joy that are present in your world each and every day. It's like money in the bank of happiness. Start your account today! ©Jane Powell Grateful for the new day How many of us get up in the morning feeling truly grateful for the day? Most of us wish we could turn the clock back and keep sleeping. The truth is, when you are happy to wake up and are grateful for the day, your life does change. Each new day is an opportunity to pray for your loved ones and to act in a loving manner towards them. I start out by saying my prayer of thanks and asking for guidance and help from all available resources. I find I am always grateful for the new day, no matter how hard it is or will be, because I know I am not ready for my days to end. After all, the alternative to waking up and facing another difficult day is death. For all I know, after death the unenlightened may be sent back to wake up to the glory of the new day and its opportunities. I want to experience more days and the difficulties and opportunities they will bring. I want the chance to test myself. Maybe this makes me a glutton for punishment, but if I can help one living thing get through the day and not hurt anyone else in the process, I go to sleep thankful for the time I have been given and eager to awaken to tomorrow. Bernie Siegel The gift of today You have a wonderful, beautiful, valuable gift with which you can literally transform your life. That gift is this day you're now living. This very day is overflowing with rich and meaningful possibilities. The value of this day is here and now, right in front of you. Life's great abundance is here on this day for you to put to good use. Today you can choose, you can learn, you can act, and you can make real progress. Today has limitless potential. Yet for that potential to be transformed into value, you must make use of the opportunity of today while it is here. Today is much too valuable to waste. Its magnificent possibilities are already here, so step quickly forward and make the most of them. Today is a priceless gift that's yours to live right now. Joyously fill it with your own unique flavor of life and achievement. Ralph Marston

Jessica Lowndes at a Aston Martin event in London This is a wedding dress made entirely of condoms and was specially designed for the Condom Fashion Show in Beijing, China. War time is not an excuse for not having a wedding party anymore, with this camouflage dress designed by the artist Erika Sarkozi. This wasn't a real wedding; actually it was part of a reality show from the British TV where few of the competitors have to stand in full view almost naked in the middle of the city downtown. A very good idea for some of us who don't want to waste time after the wedding night and go straight to the point. Be careful not to stand next to anything flammable if you want to wear this paper frock. This is all a classy lady wants on her big day. A little glitz
a little sparkle. Hello Kitty fans may just fall for this pink wedding frock. Baker Valentyn Shtefano and his bride Viktoriya show off her wedding gown, which Shtefano made out of flour, eggs, sugar and caramel, in the western Ukrainian city. The dress made of 1,500 cream puffs and weighing 20 pounds took the 28-year-old baker two months to make, and by the end of the wedding reception, bride Viktoriya said she didn't want to take it off. This lovely bridal gown is absolutely charming. Or should that be Charmin? Far from being a priceless designer number, the dress is made entirely from toilet paper, tape and glue. Its maker, Ann Kagawa Lee of Honolulu, Hawaii, took inspiration from the film "Gone With the Wind" and Japanese Origami. Yve St Laurent designed a wedding dress based on the Russian matryoshka nesting dolls, the dress is crocheted and looks a little... odd? If you are contemplating a gothic style wedding then you may have been visualizing a gothic style dress and some heavy eyeshadow. That is exactly what couple Julie Williams, 45, and Dylon Holroyd, 49, did when they had an extreme gothic wedding. Show your groom you really are the light of his life with this frock by Yumi Katsura. Chantal Coady and Ian Stuart of Ian Stuart Brides had been talking about creating a chocolate wedding dress for years, and Chocolate Week 2008 seemed the perfect opportunity to combine Ian's distinctive style and Rococo's creative approach to chocolate. __,_._,___ | Poem-A-Day: L'Avenir est Quelque Chose by Dobby Gibson Posted: 17 May 2013 03:35 AM PDT | | L'Avenir est Quelque Chose
by Dobby Gibson
All day for too long everything I've thought to say has been about umbrellas, how I can't remember how I came to possess whatever weird one I find in my hand, like now, how they hang there on brass hooks in the closet like failed actors, each one tiny or too huge, like ideas, always needing to be shaken off and folded up before we can properly forget them on the train. Most of my predictions are honestly just hopes: a sudden sundress in March, regime change in the North, the one where Amanda wins the big book award from the baby boomers. There's that green and white umbrella the cereal company interns handed us outside the doomed ball game, the one just for sun, the one with the wooden handle as crooked as the future that terrifies me whenever one of us uses it as a stand-in for a dance partner. You once opened it in the living room so Scarlett could have a picnic beneath something that felt to her like a tent as it felt to me like my prediction we would live forever was already true. When I want to try to understand now I tend to look up and how truth be untold, I might see nothing more than a few thousand pinholes in black nylon, it's enough to get you to Greece and back, or something to kiss beneath, who knows how this is going to play out? I know you won't ever be able to say exactly what you're feeling either, the way worry might pop open overhead like fireworks oozing pure midnight -- will we ever see the sun? -- the way we're sure to pull closer to whatever's between us, the rain playing the drum that's suddenly us. |

About This Poem "'Rather than approaching a new poem as if it might be your last, try approaching it as if it's simply your next.' I had scribbled this advice to myself in my notebook just before I wrote this poem. It was a cold and rainy day in Minneapolis. The future seemed impossible. I grabbed the first thing I could find nearest the door."

Sculptures Made from Suspended Sewing Buttons 1. Longleat Hedge Maze (UK) Made up of more than 16,000 english yews, Longleat's spectacular hedge maze --the world's longest-- was first laid out in 1975 by designer Greg Bright. The Maze covers an area of around 1.48 acres (0.6 hectares) with a total pathway length of 1.69 miles (2.72 kilometres). Unlike most other conventional mazes, it's actually three-dimensional, with six wooden bridges offering tantalizing glimpses towards the elusive centre of the maze, which is marked by an observation tower for visitors who manage to find it. 2. Reignac-sur-Indre Maze (France) In 1996, the year this plant maze --the world's largest-- was created at Reignac-sur-Indre in Touraine, 85,000 visitors came to admire and lose themselves in the middle of its 4-hectare (10-acre) expanse. Each year, a maze of corn or sunflowers emerges from the ground over the summer, is harvested in the autumn, and then reappears the following year in a different form, thanks to a well-proven technique of sowing and marking out. 3. York Maze, a Star Trek tribute (UK) Containing 1.5 million individual plants, this maze --just outside York-- covers 32 acres, the equivalent of 15 football pitches, and was designed using satellite technology, which meant the paths could be cut to an accuracy of half a metre. The huge maze was created by Tom Pearcy as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of Star Trek. 4. Ashcombe Maze (Australia) Ashcombe Maze is Australia's oldest and most famous traditional hedge maze, located at Shoreham on the east of the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. Measuring three meters high by two meters wide, the gardens also boast the world's oldest rose maze, which blooms 217 varieties of roses on 1,200 bushes. 5. Pineapple Garden Maze (Hawaii) World's largest maze, according to the Guinness Book of Records 2001, the Pineapple Garden Maze offers over three miles of paths on three acres. Instead of a traditional English hedge, it is planted with 14,000 colorful Hawaiian plants, including hibiscus, croton, panax, pineapple and heliconia. It is located in Wahiawa, Hawaii at Dole Plantation and certainly looks scary from the air. 6. Snake Maze (UK) Michael Blee, 62, spent several months creating this six-acre maze at Gore Farm in Upchurch, near Rochester, Kent. Its hedges stand 9ft tall. This is the 10th and the most complicated maze Mr. Blee has ever done. He is hoping his giant game makes it into the Guinness Book of Records. 7. Il Labirinto (Italy) Created in the early 1700s, Il Labirinto is said to be one of the most complicated labyrinths in the world. Located in the town of Stra, just outside Venice on the grounds of Villa Pisani, the legend says Napoleon got "lost" in it around 1807. 8. Peace Maze (Ireland) This Irish maze was officially opened in 2001. The largest permanent hedge maze in the world, it covers an area of 11,000m2 --2.7 acres, or, 1.1 hectares. The path length is 3147m (2 miles or 3443 yards). The hedge is constructed from 6000 yew trees, many of which were planted during December 2000 by people from all over Northern Ireland. 9. Hampton Court Maze (UK) The Maze at Hampton Court, the royal palace on the Thames to the west of London, is probably UK's most famous one. Planted as part of the gardens laid out for William of Orange between 1689 and 1695 by George London and Henry Wise, it covers an area of a third of an acre (about 1350 sq meters), with paths of over half a mile (0.8 km) long. It was described with great wit in Jerome K. Jerome's novel 'Three Men in a Boat.' Hampton Court Maze continues to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. 10. Davis' Mega Maze (USA) Davis' Mega Maze in Sterling, Massachusetts, has been a popular seasonal attraction since 1998. Davis' Farmland, a seventh-generation family-owned farm, holds this unique maze that changes completely from year to year. Designed in Dorset, England, by maze designer Adrian Fisher who is often credited with creating the modern maize maze craze, the Mega Maze takes more than 12,800 labor hours to be created each year. Incredible Vertical Gardens Around the World 1. The woman who won the record for the most marriages with 23 ex-husbands Linda Wolfe, 68, who first wed at 16, is now a grandmother with 23 ex-husbands, which sets the world record for the Most Married Woman. She has said that she is "addicted to the romance" of getting married. The best lover was Jack Gourley, who liked skinny dipping and impromptu trysts. She wed him three times. Wolfe also married a one-eyed inmate. Two of her husbands were gay, while two were homeless. Some cheated on her. One "choked her and turned her lip inside out." Another secured the fridge with a padlock and chain. Her last marriage to Glynn Wolfe, a decade ago, was a publicity stunt. He took Linda as his bride, which officially made him the world's most married man at 29 times. He died a year later at age 88. Ms. Wolfe has been single for a dozen years, her longest stint since childhood. 2. The couple who renewed their vows for the 100th time A loved-up American couple set a new Guinness World Record for the most marriage vow renewals, having exchanged their vows for the 100th time at the Hard Rock Café in Honolulu, Hawaii. Lauren and David Blair from Hendersonville, Tennessee first met in 1982 and were instantly smitten with each other. Their first date came two days later, and within three months David had proposed. The course to true love rarely being smooth, Lauren actually said no the first time. However, it wasn't long before Lauren accepted and in the summer of 1984 the couple was married in Topanga Canyon, California. Since then Lauren and David, at 60 and 58 years old respectively, have renewed their vows 99 times, with each ceremony taking place in a different location. I guess they really like honeymoons. 3. The man who got married 53 times After 52 marriages, 72 year old Malaysian Kamarudin Mohamad tied the knot for the 53rd and last time in 2004 with Khadijah Udin, who also happened to be his first wife a very long time back. Kamarudin had divorced Khadijah 50 years ago after living with her for only one year. He claimed to not be a playboy, but could not find the right woman to be with the first 51 times. His 52nd marriage to a Thai woman was perhaps the most successful, as he remained with her for 20 years until she died of cancer. 74-year-old Khadijah Udin agreed to re-marry him only if he promised to give up his affection for beauty and live with her forever. Kamarudin agreed to live and love her for the rest of his life. Out of the 52 women he married, one was English and two were Thai. His shortest marriage was for only 2 days! Kamarudin had eight children from his wives and sixteen grandchildren. He passed away in 2007 after setting the record for being the most married man on planet earth. 4. The former Brazilian Butt Queen who is set to get married for the 17th time Gretchen is a Brazilian singer who became notorious as the Rainha do Bumbum ("Butt Queen") in the late 1970s. Lately she has another reason for notoriety that is much less appealing than her buttocks: she is set to marry her newest boyfriend who will become her 17th husband. 5. The company with the most married couples, since 76 employees are married to each other You can add this as a work perk: if you want to find a husband, there is one company where you should send your resume. In this credit card corporation in Argentina, 76 of their employees are married to each other. That's right, the record for the most married couples employed by the same company is held by Tarjeta Naranja of Córdoba, Argentina who, as of April 2004, had 38 married couples working for them. All couples sent in marriage certificates and proof of employment. I can't help but wonder how hard it is for their human resource department to arrange combined vacations for all of them. 6. The Baptist minister who got married 29 times Some people spend most of their years looking for their special someone, that significant other that will be their wife\husband and share the rest of their life. On the other hand, there was Glynn Wolfe (July 25, 1908 June 10, 1997), a Baptist minister from Blythe, California who holds the record for the largest number of marriages at 29! His shortest marriage lasted for 19 days, and his longest for 11 years. Surprisingly, his last marriage was to the woman who holds the same record for the most married woman. Although he had 29 wives, 19 children, 40 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, nobody stepped forward to claim his body when he died. 7. The most married Hollywood stars, with 8 times each Lana Turner (1920 - 1995), Mickey Rooney (b. 23 Sept 1922), Zsa Zsa Gabor (b. 6 Feb 1917), Elizabeth Taylor (b. 27 February 1932 - d. 23 March 2011) and Georgia Holt, have each married eight times. Stan Laurel also had eight wedding ceremonies, but of these one was invalid because his divorce was not final, and two were "extra ceremonies" during his third marriage. In all he had four wives, one of whom he married twice. 8. The man who is married to twin sisters and their cousin Joe Darger from Salt Lake City, Utah lives in a house with his three wives and their 24 children. His polygamous marriage is illegal in 50 American states - and has resulted in him being excommunicated from the Mormon church. However, Joe, a fifth generation polygamist, believes his is the correct way, and says he wants to fight to have his plural marriage officially recognized by society. The fundamentalist Mormon appeared on the breakfast television show alongside his three wives, 42-year-old twins Vicki and Valerie, and their 43-year-old cousin Alina. Vicki and Alina have been married to Joe for 22 years after dating Joe simultaneously when they were just 18. Vicki's twin sister Valerie married Joe 12 years ago after her own polygamous union - with a man who had six other wives - broke down. __,_._,___ | Dear Poet Letters & Poets Forum Dates Revealed Posted: 16 May 2013 09:13 AM PDT
In April, as part of National Poetry Month, we invited students across the United States to read poems by and write letters to the poets who serve on our Board of Chancellors. Letters are still pouring in and we expect that by the end of the month nearly 1,000 young people will have participated in our Dear Poet Project. We've been moved by the passionate interest students have shown in the art of poetry. We're delighted to share with you some of their letters and the responses to them written by our Chancellors. "Do you ever have to struggle to write? Are there ever times when it seems the inspiration simply won't come?" --Kaitlyn (Salt Lake City, Utah) "As for me, I am an aspiring writer and I really believe that poetry can make a difference in the world. I've seen this first hand." --Lylla (Monteguma, New Mexico) "When I read your poem, I stopped, paused, pulled my glasses up to the brim of my nose, exhaled, and verbalized a question despite being alone in my bedroom. I asked no one in particular, 'What? What did I just read? What does it mean?'" --Zachary (Houston, Texas) |
Throughout National Poetry Month, the Academy received hundreds of inspiring emails, photos, and videos capturing Poem in Your Pocket Day celebrations across the nation. Here are some of the creative ways you chose to participate this year: - A school librarian in Gaithersburg, Maryland, recorded this video of first and second graders sharing their pocket poems with other schools through Skype.
- The folks at Lulu.com in Raleigh, North Carolina, inscribed poems with sidewalk chalk in their office parking lot.
- Third and fourth grade students at Peralta Elementary in Oakland, California, made dozens of poetry dispenser boxes, filled them with pocket poems, and distributed them to libraries, bookstores, cafes, hospitals, and other venues in the community.
- Students at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, posted poems around campus at dawn.
- Businesses in Montgomery, Alabama, hosted a twenty-four-hour poetry marathon at various locations throughout the downtown area.

__,_._,___ | Poem-A-Day: Wave by David Keplinger Posted: 16 May 2013 03:34 AM PDT | | Wave by David Keplinger Lincoln, leaving Springfield, 1861, boards a train with a salute: but it is weak. To correct it, he slides his hand away from his face as if waving, as if brushing the snows of childhood from his eyes. The train is coming east. In the window Lincoln watches his face. You'll grow old the moment you arrive, he says to this face. But you will never reach great age. The train speeds like the cortical pressure wave in the left lateral sinus, say, a bullet in the skull. Then he will have his salute. Then they will love him. Then eternity will slow, fall like snow. Then the treaty with huge silence which he, his face exhausted, must sign.

About This Poem "This poem took more than seven years to write. It began with Lincoln's last speech to Springfield, which I found in a small book at a library sale in Pueblo, Colorado. The book had been checked out once, in 1917. These points of contact with Lincoln's words--from me to the lone reader to Lincoln himself--ignited my need to capture here the passage of his farewell through time." --David Keplinger
