[Fropki] Killing a Lion: Network Operator Style! Posted: 06 Mar 2014 07:39 PM PST Vodafone Method: Hire a lion, give him full rest, pay him more than his expectation, never ask him to do any hard work for 3 months. After 3 months tell him that now you have to fulfill your yearly target within 9 months. Otherwise you will be kicked out from the jungle. Lion dies due to fear, that if he loses this "lazy animals jungle", where will he go.   Reliance Method: Hire a lion. Give him hell lot of work and pay him fat salary more than industry. Restructure his job, position, boss, colleagues, designation, department, salary, location every 6 months. If he kills 2 goats a day, give him target of killing 20 elephants a day, when there are just 10 elephants in the jungle. Lion dies of exhaustion, overkill and restructuring.   Tata Method: Hire a lion and give him the post of a cat, ask him to meow like a cat. Give him lots of ESOPs and grass to eat. He will die eventually of hope and starvation.   Airtel Method: Hire a lion and ask him to extract 60 kg meat out of a 40kg goat. Lion dies out of strain.   BSNL Method: Hire a lion and give him a 3000 page circular on how to kill a goat. Amend the circular at least three times a week. Send him on inspection to the jungle, where he can threaten to cancel the hunting license of any fox, wolf, bear, jackal etc who have violated any provision of the 3000 page circular. Lion dies of boredom.   Aircel Method: Recruits a lion, give him 50 kg meat everyday to eat when he can't eat more than 20 kg. Lion dies due to overeating.   Idea Method: Recruits a lion, asks him to kill elephant without any pain and scratches to it. Lion is made a part of a CFT with ducks, rabbits and pigeons telling Lion how to kill Dinosaurs. Lion is provided with three wolves to help the killing but with a pre-condition that wolves will not run or move. Lion dies due to confusion and paradoxes.   Uninor Method: Hire a lion. Give him hell lot of work and pay him fat salary more than industry. [Fropki] Grandma's Dilemma Posted: 06 Mar 2014 08:52 AM PST The family wheeled Grandma out on the lawn, in her wheelchair, where the activities for her 100th birthday were taking place. Grandma couldn't speak very well, but she mwould write notes when she needed to communicate.   After a short time out on the lawn, Grandma started leaning off to the right, so some family members grabbed her, straightened her up, and stuffed pillows on her right side.   A short time later, she started leaning off to her left, so again the family grabbed her and stuffed pillows on her left side.   Soon she started leaning forward, so the family members again grabbed her, and then tied a pillowcase around her waist to hold her up.   A nephew who arrived late came up to Grandma and said, "Hi, Grandma, you're looking good! Poem-A-Day: C'est La Guerre by Danniel Schoonebeek Posted: 06 Mar 2014 03:52 AM PST March 6, 2014 C'est La Guerre by Danniel Schoonebeek     If I see one more shred of pink rust come peeling off the face of this warehouse tonight.    With my bouquet of railroad ties that I plucked from the Union Pacific who'll witness me.    When I've found the man who named the road on which you grew up and defaced him.    And wearing his father's crushed suit and his cufflinks I fire your name in his furrows.    When I've poured his mother a whiskey and coffee and beer-back I'll learn her our myth.    We come from low country with deer ticks in our blood is that what they're selling.    In search of the black horse who spits on the hay and the barley and hunger strikes.    Who lost the blue horse he loved and he'll die with his eye on the wood where she fell.    I fire your name in the furrows tonight for the ones who refuse to survive themselves.    Who say every five seconds the nations of dead they tell me my job is assuage them.    And every five seconds when I tear out their stitches I tear them out five seconds long.    It is you with the planks of rotting down barns in your arms I am barreling toward.    It is you from the jackshit connivances of yesterday's scofflaw patrol I will kidnap.    And who will say amen if I fell one more empire that was raised from a handful of litter.    And who will help quit our mothers who will not quit treading the rafters of savagery.    And who will carry our fathers from the ditches where they crashed their radio flyers.    With a bouquet of railroad ties in a crushed suit I will field you this question come winter.    In the apocryphal gossip of sea kings my face is scrimshaw like they've never witnessed.    He sunk himself like a dreadnaught into the sea to landmark her joy is that what they say.    And who will witness me if I'm one page in a long book of ways to say no with no ending.    And if I come to your door come winter in crushed suit with the stitches to prove you.       Copyright © 2014 by Danniel Schoonebeek. [Fropki] The Power of Commitment Posted: 06 Mar 2014 02:18 AM PST You may also like: Pigeon: Impossible Was our failure to succeed really due to a lack of time, some unlearned skill, or a much deeper self-esteem issue? Well, we could probably get a great conversation going as to why so many people have such a difficult time keeping their commitments. However, I would prefer to offer a simpler solution—a step-by-step approach that will, in effect, allow you to set, keep, and ultimately achieve any worthwhile goal you desire...   "Commitment is doing the thing you said you'd do, long after the feeling you said it in has passed." Now that's what keeping your word is all about!   So if "committing to...and then following through" is what you'd like to do more often, the following five step plan will help you set your goals and keep your promises, thereby allowing you to ultimately achieve what's truly important to you...   1) Decide What You Want Achievers realize some people join the business because they want to drive a new car; some because they want to earn more money; and some because they want the extra time needed to enjoy a more rewarding life. What about you? To stay the course you'll need to be moving towards something you actually want! After all, part of your journey is discovering your real why...   2) Know Your "Why?" True, deciding what you want is your first step, and yet it's only part of the solution! Therefore, if you really want to set, keep, and ultimately achieve every worthwhile goal, you'll need to become clear on why you want what you want. The best part is you'll know when you've found your "Why" because from that moment on you will do whatever it takes!   3) Follow A Proven Plan You either have a proven plan (system or daily method of operation) you follow, or you don't. If you do, continue moving forward. If you don't, find someone who has already achieved what you want. Find out what they did. Do that. And then continue until you achieve the same result they've already proven was possible. Because it's easier to keep going when you get results—and it's easier to get results when you follow a proven plan.   4) Commit Yourself Publicly After you've decided what you want, discovered why that is important to you, and are diligently following a proven plan to achieve it, you're ready for step four: public commitment! Decide in writing that you will be here, still actively involved, a year from now! On 3" x 5" cards write out what you want (your goal), followed by a sentence or two explaining your desire to have this (your "Why?"), and then include the steps you're taking (your proven plan) to accomplish it...   Give these hand-written cards to 10 people you know, like, and trust, and would not want to disappoint. Believe me, if you'll do this, you will follow through.   5) Get Better Every Day Leaders understand that wherever they are, and wherever they're going, the journey will be easier if they incorporate a daily personal development program. So what should yours include? Books, CDs, and classes. Because when you get better "it" gets easier...   Use this information—all five steps—to guide you and you will be well on your way to keeping your word and achieving all your dreams. But it shouldn't be!   Starting a new project, trying something you've always wanted to, or revisiting an old activity you used to love doing is a great way to renew your spirit and energy. If there's something you've been thinking of doing, but not getting around to – make at least one step toward it today. About 5 seconds after he passed, I realized it was the first time I had given him a kiss since I was a little boy.  11. INNOCENCE Today, in the cutest voice, my 8-year-old daughter asked me to start recycling. I chuckled and asked, "Why?" She replied, "So you can help me save the planet." I chuckled again and asked, "And why do you want to save the planet?" "Because that's where I keep all my stuff," she said. 12. JOY Today, when I witnessed a 27-year-old breast cancer patient laughing hysterically at her 2-year-old daughter's antics, I suddenly realized that I need to stop complaining about my life and start celebrating it again.  13. KINDNESS Today, a boy in a wheelchair saw me desperately struggling on crutches with my broken leg and offered to carry my backpack and books for me. He helped me all the way across campus to my class and as he was leaving he said, "I hope you feel better soon.".  14. SHARING Today, I was traveling in Kenya and I met a refugee from Zimbabwe. Poem-A-Day: Joseph Brodsky in Venice (1981) by Campbell McGrath Posted: 05 Mar 2014 03:52 AM PST March 5, 2014 Joseph Brodsky in Venice (1981) by Campbell McGrath     La Serenissima, in morning light, is beautiful.  But you already knew that.  Palette of honeyed ochre and ship's bell bronze,  water precisely the color of the hand-ground pigment  with which the water of Venice has been painted for  centuries,  angled slats of aquamarine chopped by wakes to agate,  matte black backlit with raw opal  and anodized aluminum, rope-work of wisteria, wands  of oleander emerging from hidden gardens. At noon,  near the boat-yard of the last gondola maker, a violin echoes from deep inside an empty cistern.  Lo and behold. Ecco.  A swirl of wind-blown ashes from yet another cigarette  and for a moment you see December snow  in Saint Petersburg, the Lion's Bridge, crystalline halo crowning Akhmatova's defiant silhouette.    Sunset: bitter orange and almond milk,  sepia retinting the canals with cartographer's ink  as you study the small gray lagoon crabs  patrolling a kingdom of marble slabs  descending into the depths; rising almost imperceptibly,  the tide licks at, kisses, then barely spills  across the top step's foot-worn, weed-velveted lip  in slippery caravans, dust-laden rivulets.  So another day's cargo of terrestrial grit  enriches their scuttled realm,  and they make haste, like drunken pirates in a silent film, erratically but steadfastly, to claim it.        Copyright © 2014 by Campbell McGrath. Brodsky had been my teacher at Columbia back in the 1980s, and the image of him smoking his cigarette with Russian intensity amidst Venice's shopworn beauty seemed at first paradoxical, and then strangely logical. And so I simply imagined him into being, watching the lagoon crabs go about their business. Given his rigorous poetics, it seemed impossible to write a poem about Brodsky without some formal component, and haphazard rhyme was the least I could do.
