so my left ear is a cave near Kotor
where the sea lashes and rakes
the iron darkness inside
the black mountains. Young and old, the poets
are letting us know this sweltering night,
under a bridge near a river outside
Karver Bookstore at the beginning of July,
belongs to them. They clear away debris about politicians and personal suffering,
these gladiators of desire
and doubt, whose candor has roiled
me like a child shaking stolen beer to foam
the genie of the moment out of
its bottle. The poets’ truth-wrought poems dragging it
out of me, that confession—that I didn’t have children
probably because in some clear corner I knew I would have left them
to join these poets half a world away who, in their language
that is able to break stones, have broken me open
like a melon. Instead of children, I leave my small dog, quivering
as I touched her on the nose, to let her know it’s
me, the one who is always leaving her, yes
I’m going, and for her I have no language with
which to reassure her I’m coming back, no—what’s the use to pretend I’m
a good mistress to her, she who would never
leave me, she who looks for me everywhere
I am not, until I return. I should feel guilty
but the Montenegrin poets have taken false guilt off
the table. I’ve been swallowed by a cosmic
sneer, with an entire country behind it where
each day it occurs to them how many are still missing
in that recent past of war and havoc. Nothing to do
but shut the gate behind me
and not look back where my scent
even now is fading from the grass. Nostalgia
for myself won’t be tolerated here. I’m just a beast
who, if my dog were a person, would give me a pat

| About This Poem “I’ve made several trips to Montenegro to hear poets from that war torn region at festivals organized by Varja Djukic who named her bookstore after Raymond Carver. By my third trip the writers were beginning to speak to me in whispers of the Srebrenica massacre, how according to their feeling ‘the West stood by letting it happen.’ Their poems were such truth-telling lightning bolts. I often felt shamed that I had so little to offer their suffering and witnessing—but to just be with them has meant everything to me.”

us like a cartoon anvil, but the breeze
that day was a knife so sharp you couldn’t feel it cutting pieces off of you.
But then, when it’s sunny, no one remembers

that one hand washed the other. But how to tell that to the rat whose whiskers
will be bound into the brush

3. Most wickets in a Test match. Okay. We know Anil Kumble once took all 10 wickets in a Test match against Pakistan in New Delhi. But did you know England's Jim Laker did it almost twice in 1956 against Australia? He took nine in the first innings and managed to get every opposition batsman out in the 2nd innings for a grand 10-19 total! 
4. Highest Test average. Yes, it's time to talk of the legend Bradman! The Australian batsman required just 4 runs in his last innings to finish with an average of 100 but unfortunately he got out for a duck. Yet a career average of 99.94 is almost unbreakable! 
5. Most runs in an innings. West Indian great Brian Lara was someone who loved playing long innings. Not only does he hold the record for the highest runs in a Test-match innings (400 against England in 2004), he also holds the record for the highest individual score in first-class cricket (501 not out for Warwickshire vs Durham in 1994). 
6. Highest score by an unusual night watchman. A night watchman is someone who is sent in to bat early despite being a bowler in an attempt to frustrate the bowlers and prevent other batsmen from losing their wicket. However, some night watchmen have gone on to score big, including Australia's Jason Gillespie, who made 201 not out vs Bangladesh in 2006. 
7. The shortest ever Test match. Would you believe a Test match at Melbourne in 1932 ended in just five hours and 53 minutes. It actually did when South Africa were bowled out for 36 and 45 in response to Australia's 153. 
8. Most wickets in international matches. Sri Lanka's most successful off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan took 800 Test wickets and 534 ODI scalps during his illustrious career. This adds up to an international wicket tally of 1,347, which is virtually unbreakable! 
9. Time for Hundred Hundreds. This record is unlikely to be broken for a long time. Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar scored 100 centuries in his 23-year career. These included 51 centuries in Test matches and 49 in ODIs. He also finished with a mammoth 34,348 international runs.

The poor lady was not very proficient in English, but did manage to communicate with her husband. The real problem arose whenever she had to shop for groceries. One day, she went to the butcher counter and wanted to buy chicken legs. She didn't know how to put forward her request, so, in desperation, clucked like a chicken and lifted up her skirt to show her thighs. Her butcher got the message and gave her the chicken legs. Next day she needed to get chicken breasts, again she didn't know how to say it, so she clucked like a chicken and unbuttoned her blouse to show the butcher her breasts. The butcher understood again and gave her some chicken breasts. On the 3rd day, the poor lady needed to buy sausages. Unable to find a way to communicate this, she brought her husband to the store...
