[Fropki] 5 Future ISRO Programmes That Will Fill Your Heart With Pride Posted: 10 Apr 2015 08:41 PM PDT The Indian Space Research Organisation has made the country proud on a number of occasions. The Mars Orbiter Mission was the first time ever that any country successfully reached the Red Planet on the first attempt. That it was one of the more economically viable space missions anywhere in the world caught global attention. And the recent test of the crew module aboard the GSLV Mk3 put India in a special group of space fairing nations. So what else do they have planned? 1. Reusable space plane RLV: The Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) is India's reusable space vehicle which ISRO hopes to use to reduce satellite launch costs. It looks like the American space shuttle, but it won't be manned and will be mounted on top of a rocket to form a Two Stage To Orbit (TSTO). The test of the RLV-TD (Technology Demonstrator) is scheduled in the coming months, which will see the prototype reach an altitude of 70 km before gliding back for a splash down in the Bay of Bengal. The next test will be a landing test on a 2 km long runway after being dropped from a height of 5 km. Once operational, the RLV will land on a runway like a regular aircraft after it deploys the payload into orbit. Currently there isn't a 5 km long runway in the country that the RLV will require, but it is expected to come up near Sriharikota, the home of India's space programme. 2. Launching humans into space Manned Space Flight Programme: ISRO killed two birds with one stone when the GSLV Mk3 test with an inert cryogenic stage took off with the CARE (Crew Module Atmospheric Re-entry Experiment) on 18 December 2014. The module reached an altitude of 80 km and made a successful splash down in the sea using the largest parachutes ever made in the country. Once operational, the crew module will host up to three Indian astronauts for orbital missions lasting up to a week in space. It will make India only the fourth nation in the world after Russia, US and China to have the ability to send humans into space. Maybe even to the moon one day. The Air Force will most likely be tasked with training and selection of the astronauts, and according to ISRO the schedule for sending the first Indian on an Indian rocket is planned for 2021. For this, the GSLV Mk3 will have to be man-rated it has to demonstrate a set number of continuous successful launches. 3. Bigger rockets GSLV Mk4: The global satellite industry revenues stood around $195 billion in 2013. And if India is to play a role here, it will need bigger and heavier rockets to launch heavier payloads into space. The GSLV Mk3 that is under development has a capacity to lift up to 4 tonnes into GTO (Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit where all the communication satellites have to reach to reach the 36,000 km circular orbit). The next step though is likely to be named GSLV Mk4 which will be able to lift 6.5 tonnes. It is what ISRO will require if it is to send Indians to the moon as has been reported. The Mk3 will form the basis for the launch vehicle which will use four instead of two S200 solid rocket boosters, currently the second most powerful solid rockets in the world. The first stage with two Vikas Engines may give way to the quad engine stage. 4. Back to the moon Chandrayaan-2: India's Chandrayaan mission was responsible for the discovery of water on the moon, which was it's biggest accomplishment. A second Chandrayaan mission is in the works and will include a lander and rover along with the orbiter. The mission, which was supposed to be developed in collaboration with the Russian space agency, is now being developed in-house. The orbiter of the Chandrayaan-2 will have five instruments and will weigh around 1,400 kg. The mission lander will make a soft landing and release the rover which is designed to collect lunar soil samples and analyse them. The mission is set for launch in 2017. 5. Navigation system IRNSS: ISRO is also working on India's own satellite navigation system which will be independent of the US controlled GPS system. Called the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), one of the reasons for its development is the US denial of GPS data during the Kargil conflict. The IRNSS will offer standard positioning system for civilian use like for aircraft navigation. A special Restricted Service will allow users like armed forces who demand higher accuracy of coordinates. The system will comprise 7 satellites of which four are in orbit already. The last one is due for a launch in the middle of next year. Computer generated image of GSLV Mk4 is for representation only __._,_.___ Posted by: "Paromita Battacharjee" <paromitab87@yahoo.in>

[Fropki] 10 Reasons Why You Need To Visit The North East Posted: 10 Apr 2015 10:12 AM PDT

Emily Ratajkowski drops Clothes for Hot Burger
People tell you, you haven't lived if you haven't seen Lahore, but ask anyone who's visited the North East and they will tell you why there are serious grounds to contest the statement. 1. Hike to the Sela Pass, Arunachal Pradesh At an altitude of 13,000 feet, this pass connects the village of Tawang to the rest of the country. For the most panoramic view of the mountains, a hike to the Sela Pass is a must. Although it is open all year round, severe snowfall in winter months might leave it inaccessible. 2. Yak Safari, Sikkim Riding a yak tests your endurance as the rough terrain of the roads leaves you no choice for other modes of transport. The Dzongri area and the Tsomgo Lake trail are the most popular treks to ride a yak. The best times to try it out is in spring (March - May) and autumn (September - December). 3. Brahmaputra River Cruise, Assam This ten-night river cruise on North East India's longest river is the best way to see Assam. The journey starts from Dibrugarh and gives passengers a chance to see Majuli, the famous island on the river, as well as the well known Kaziranga National Park, which is famous for the one-horned rhino and vast expanses of tea gardens. The cruise ends in Guwahati with trips to the Aswaklanta temple, Madan Kamdev ruins, Guwahati Commonwealth War Graves, and Sualkuchi, which is known for silk weaving. 4. River rafting on the Siang, Arunachal Pradesh Probably one of the most thrilling white water rafting experiences is available on the Siang River, which is a tributary of the Brahmaputra. There are Grade III and Grade IV rapids which are like roller coaster rides. 5. Trekking in Sandakphu, Sikkim The peak located on the border of West Bengal and Sikkim is one of the highest in the region at an elevation of 11,000 feet. Reaching the peak certainly isn't easy even though it is one of the most popular treks in Eastern India. 6. The Hornbill Festival, Nagaland This festival is held in honour of the hornbill which is a commonly sighted bird in the region. Several tribes come together in a show of spirit and solidarity as there are dances, exhibitions of traditional art and just an amazing celebratory atmosphere. 7. Living Root Bridges, Meghalaya Some parts of Meghalaya receive the highest rainfall in the country causing the growth of rubber trees which have extremely thick and strong secondary roots. These have been manipulated by locals to form aerial bridges. One can walk on these bridges to test their strength or lack of it! 8. Delicious Chikhvi, Tripura This dish consists of stir fried strips of bamboo shoot and pork and has a luscious smoky taste. It is served on a bed of short grained red rice. 9. The dances of Manipur The traditional dance forms of Manipur are a way of praising and entertaining the gods. This is Laihaoroba, which is performed by female priests who dance to worship nature. Samirkirtana is the Pung Cholom dance where males sing, dance and play the traditional Pung drum simultaneously with rhythmic energy. Last, but not the least, is the Raslila or Manipuri dance style which is also one of the classical dances of India. The technique of Manipuri dance is probably the most graceful of all the classical dances of India. The body follows the path of 8 and the feet movements generate light touch on the ground. The face has a subdued expression while the eyes mostly express the bhaktirasa or the emotion of devotion. 10. Vawksa Rep, Mizoram This meaty delicacy is made from seasoned and smoked pork, leafy green vegetables and snow peas that are stir fried to perfection.

Unpacking a Globe by Arthur Sze Posted: 10 Apr 2015 03:34 AM PDT I gaze at the Pacific and don’t expect to ever see the heads on Easter Island, though I guess at sunlight rippling the yellow grasses sloping to shore; yesterday a doe ate grass in the orchard: it lifted its ears and stopped eating when it sensed us watching from a glass hallway—in his sleep, a veteran sweats, defusing a land mine. On the globe, I mark the Battle of the Coral Sea—no one frets at that now. A poem can never be too dark, I nod and, staring at the Kenai, hear ice breaking up along an inlet; yesterday a coyote trotted across my headlights and turned his head but didn’t break stride; that’s how I want to live on this planet: alive to a rabbit at a glass door— and flower where there is no flower. Next Time Ask More Questions by Naomi Shihab Nye Posted: 09 Apr 2015 03:34 AM PDT Before jumping, remember the span of time is long and gracious. No one perches dangerously on any cliff till you reply. Is there a pouch of rain desperately thirsty people wait to drink from when you say yes or no? I don’t think so. Hold that thought. Hold everything. When they say “crucial”—well, maybe for them? Hold your horses and your minutes and your Hong Kong dollar coins in your pocket, you are not a corner or a critical turning page. Wait. Struggles Curvy Girls Know Too Well We have learnt in Indian history that temples in ancient times were once social hubs where people congregated. They were also sites where the arts of dance, music and combat were honed and have been passed down for generations. Today, these temples remind us of our past and the architectural brilliance of craftsmen in those days. 1. Brihadeshwara Temple, Tanjore, Tamil Nadu Built by King Rajaraja Chola in 1002 AD, this temple was dedicated to Shiva and is the finest example of Dravidian art. The Brihadeshwara temple combines the best in the tradition of temple building - architecture, sculpture, painting and other allied arts. It is composed of many interconnected structures such as the Nandi pavilion, a pillared portico and a large hall. Its vimana (the roof like structure that towers above the sanctum sanctorum or main shrine) is 66 metres high. 2. Kailashnath Temple, Ellora This was built as a dedication to Lord Shiva, the destroyer. It is a tribute to man's greatness, even though academia have not given it its due place in our school history syllabus. It was carved in perfect proportion and alignment to its adjacent structures, which include columns, flying bridges, stone arches, and statues and buildings - all made out of a single piece of rock. 3. Chennakeshava Temple, Karnataka Situated on the banks of the Yagachi river, this temple was an early masterpiece of the Hoysala Period. It was built by the Vijayanagara ruler to commemorate their victory over the Cholas and is solely dedicated to Vishnu as most of the figural carvings depict aspects of Vishnu, particularly the incarnations and the God seated with Lakshmi. 4. Tugnath Temple, Uttarakhand At an elevation of 3680 metres above sea level, the Tugnath Temple is the highest elevated of the Panch Kedar, the others are Madhyamaheshwar, Kedarnath, Rudranath and Kalpeshwar. The temple is connected to the Ramayana where Lord Ram meditated to release the curse of Brahmahatya for having slaughtered Ravana. The temple is quite small, and hence only 10 people are allowed in at a time. 5. Adi Kumbeswarar, Tamil Nadu Located in the temple town of India, Kumbhakonam, this temple dates back to the Vijaynagara period. Adi Kumbeswarar is the presiding deity of the temple and the shrine is located in the centre. Kumbeswarar is in the form a lingam believed to have been made by Shiva himself when he mixed the nectar of immortality and sand. 6. Jagatpita Brahma Mandir, Rajasthan Although the structure of this temple dates back to the 14th century, this temple is said to be 2000 years old. The temple is mainly built of marble and stone slabs. It has a distinct red pinnacle and a bird motif. The temple sanctum sanctorum holds the central images of Brahma and his second consort Gayatri. It witnesses a festival dedicated to Brahma during the Kartik Purnima. 7. Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Tamil Nadu Varadharaja Perumal Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in the holy city of Kanchipuram. It is one of the Divya Desams, the 108 temples of Vishnu believed to have been visited by the 12 poet saints, or Alwars. It is believed that the lizard sculptures that adorn the ceilings of the temple when touched forgive the sins of your past life. 8. Konark Sun Temple, Odisha This temple was built by King Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty around AD 1250. The temple is in the shape of a gigantic chariot with elaborately carved stone wheels, pillars and walls. A major part of the structure is now in ruins. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 9. Dilwara Temples near Mount Abu, Rajasthan Located about 2.5 km from Mount Abu, each of these five temples are unique in their own way and were built between the 11th and 13th century AD and are remarkable for their stunning use of marble. These five temples (Vimal Vasahi, Luna Vasahi, Pittalhar Temple, Parshvanatha Temple and Mahavir Swami Temple) are considered the most beautiful Jain pilgrimage sites in the world. topindiatravel.com 10. Pancha Ratna Temple, Bankura, West Bengal Built in 1643 by King Raghunath Singha, this temple stands on a low square plinth and consists of an ambulatory pathway with a porch opened by three arches on the four sides of the temple. The walls are richly decorated with terracotta carvings featuring aspects of Lord Krishna's life. 11. Badami Cave Temples, Karnataka The Badami cave temples are a complex of temples located at Badami, a town in the Bagalkot District in the northern part of Karnataka, India. They are considered an example of Indian rock-cut architecture, especially Badami Chalukya Architecture. 12. Vittala Temple, Hampi, Karnataka Perhaps one of the most popular of all the temples in the Hampi complex, this houses the famous musical pillars that have amazing acoustics. The British wanted to find out the reason behind this, and so they cut two pillars to check if there was anything inside that was producing the sound. They found nothing but hollow pillars. The road leading to the temple was once a market where horses were traded. Even today we can see the ruins of the market on both the sides of the road. The temple contains images of foreigners like Persians selling horses. 13. Orchha Temples, Madhya Pradesh Orchha is another famous tourist spot located near the famous Khajuraho Temple. The town has Chaturbhuj Temple, Lakshmi Temple and Ram Raja Temple. The Chaturbhuj temple is imposing with tall spires built atop a high platform. Its exterior is richly ornamented with lotus symbols. The Raja Ram Temple resembles a palace as the Ram is worshiped as a king here. The Lakshmi Temple is an odd mixture of temple and fort and an unique mixture of concentric forms. It consists of an octagonal central tower inside a triangular temple. In line with this eccentricity, the entrance gate is set in a corner rather than the wall.

Nargis Fakhri juices up the cover of The Juice Work is taxing and the only way to get through it is to genuinely enjoy what you do. But what happens when your job is like a loveless marriage that's going nowhere and gradually turns your life into a living nightmare? Here are some signs that you're stuck in the wrong job and it's slowly eating away your very soul. 1. You take keen interest in something that's got nothing to do with your job. You do HTML coding but for some reason you take a deeper interest in the content of the website. This is just an example. You may also be a doctor who gives better relationship advice than medical expertise. 2. Your browser has shortcuts and links to several job seeking websites saved in its history. Naukri, Monster, LinkedIn, you name it! You have been applying left, right, and centre as well as scavenger hunting for opportunities elsewhere in a field that you think is better suited to you. The grass is always greener, but in your case, you are sitting in a desert. 3. Demotivated by work, your surroundings make you sick including the coffee. The office is now a dungeon and your boss is the prison guard who tightens your shackles day by day. It's nauseating inside and you're suffocating. The dim lights on the ceiling make you feel like you're in a court room ready to be sentenced to death. Imagining much? Nope, you see it in your nightmares too. 4. When's lunch time? You guys wanna go for lunch? It's 10 AM and the 3 hours to lunch time just don't seem to go any faster. Your boredom makes you hungry and you're already pestering your colleagues about when they want to eat lunch. 5. Your breaks are very frequent. Just get me away from that table and bay, it's depressing! This is the war that's raging through your head, and so you make do by taking breaks very frequently. You need oxygen and you head outside to get away from it all. Too bad you have to go back up. 6. You can't wait to go home. You're always waiting for the clock to strike 06.30 as you promptly start packing up your stuff. Your only hindrance, your boss, and the guilt that he's judging you for leaving "early" and the ominous feeling that he's going to hold you back because you've not done something that he's asked you to do. 7. Getting up and getting ready for work is one of the biggest struggles of the day. You are so tempted to just call in sick but you know you have done that very often. Tossing and turning in bed is what ensues until you realise you're going to be late and that you can't afford to have your salary slashed for absenteeism. You need to save up for that awesome new phone. 8. The arrival of the weekend gives you momentary relief. Who doesn't look forward to the weekend? But in your case, it's a temporary feeling of being set free. Sunday evenings are the most depressing. You feel like a kid who doesn't want to go back to boarding school. 9. Time to update that CV. You have done it since you got your first job and now you find yourself doing it more often. Heck you didn't know where it was until you typed it out in the search bar of your computer. But what skills have you gained since starting work? Hmm time to knead your imagination and make senseless bullshit look flowery and sophisticated. 10. Speaking of kneading your imagination, you think of where you would end up if you had actually followed your dreams. If only we could go back into the past and undo what has already been done. *Sighs* 11. You've been thinking about taking classes to learn new skills. A great way to further your career or a chance to leave your job and work towards something you really want to do.

__,_._,___ | Spain by Major Jackson Posted: 07 Apr 2015 03:32 AM PDT for Mark Strand Beneath canopies of green, unionists marched doggedly outside The Embassy. Their din was no match for light lancing through leaves of madrone trees lining the Paseo then flashing off glossy black Maybachs skidding round a plaza like a monarch fleeing the paparazzi. Your voice skipped and paused like a pencil. Layers of morning pastries flaked gingerly then fell, soft as vowels, on a china plate. One learns to cherish the wizened reserve of old world manners, two blotched hands making wings of a daily paper beside us between sips of café con leche, a demeanor in short gentle as grand edifices along this boulevard. Yet Guernica is down the street, and some windshields wear a sinister face, sometimes two. Think Goya. Just south of here, on the lower slopes of the Sierras, fields of olive groves braid the land like a Moorish head, but those sultans were kicked out long ago. In the lobby of the Hotel Urban, I wait for a cab, my obedient rolling bag like a pet beside me. I have loved again another city but Madrid is yours: her caped olé’s, her bullish flag, her glass pavilions and outdoor tables like a festival of collaged laughter, our dark harbors finding level. Copyright © 2015 by Major Jackson. Used with permission of the author. | | About This Poem “Several years ago, my wife and I traveled to Madrid and had mid-morning breakfast with the great poet Mark Strand, whom I had met on several occasions in New York City. Upon hearing we would be in town, he extended an invitation to dine at his favorite restaurant, The Embassy. Our conversation ranged from national healthcare to the poet-friends of his generation to his early aspirations as a painter and the upcoming exhibit of collages in a New York City gallery. Afterwards, we walked along a grand boulevard to a bookstore in Salamanca where he made suggestions of works of fiction. Despite his waning health, he was stately and quite generous. I was happy to send him the poem a year before his passing, which he enjoyed and responded with characteristic grace.” —Major Jackson | | | Major Jackson is the author of the forthcoming collection Roll Deep (W. Sony Charishta Actress Photos Stills Gallery Guns. Explosions. Rape. Murder. Outrage. Repeat. Our media's need to use shocking visuals and tell the most painful details before attempting to understand anything is a sign of how jaded we have become as a society. Nothing shocks us anymore. Don't believe us? Take a look at 13 such things which we can now casually look at on TV, tweet about and then look away. 1. Sexual assault Rape, gang rapes, sexual assault and molestation only climbed out from small page 6 stories of the newspaper to the front page after the entire nation was horrified by the Nirbhaya rape. If you look into what India's capital has done to protect women 2 years after Nirbhaya, you won't find any answers. And yet the headlines scream "rape!" to remind us that we need to be scared. 2. Witnesses turning hostile in major cases India does not have the concept of witness protection. 2 witnesses in a case implicating Asaram Bapu of sexual assault were shot dead. Another witness is a marked man, facing threats. According to human rights activists and lawyers, thousands of witnesses in criminal cases either live a terrified life, or turn hostile from threats and intimidation. In the case against Varun Gandhi for hate speech, 88 witnesses suddenly turned hostile. 3. Communal wars KINDLEMAG A significant part of the history of religious violence in India includes raids on India by Persian and Afghan armies. Cut to now - we're still fighting. Both Hindus and Muslims are guilty of instigating and taking part in violent action against communities. The most recent attack would be Delhi's Trilokpuri riot, fueled by rumour-mongering. Due to the speed at which a riot arises, it is difficult for the government to take rapid action. 4. IAS officers getting attacked Shot dead, burned alive, or a suicide - IAS officers have succumbed to the pressures of fighting for the truth. And, like Ashok Khemka, those who have managed to stay alive have transferred around so much they are nomads in their own country. 5. Female foeticide Female infanticide in India is responsible for the major sex ratio discrepancy in India. The worst part of this is that any statistics that arise are incomplete as this crime against women is a virtually undetectable crime. 6. Celebrities not getting arrested Are you tired of celebrities not getting arrested, or being constantly out on bail all the time It is really hard to successfully convict a big celebrity in India - just look at the years it took to put Sanjay Dutt behind bars. The Salman Khan black buck case involves many major Bollywood celebrities who we're never going to see in jail. And we've already forgotten Navjot Singh Sidhu's alleged murder of Gurnam Singh in an incident of road rage 26 years. 7. Drug busts and high incidence of addiction Just last week, the Indian narcotics bureau had its biggest cocaine bust - 9 kilos! This is the tip of the iceberg, as hundreds of crores worth of heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and other psychotropic drugs regularly enter India. What is horrifying is that Indians are not importers, but also the senders of these drugs. Nigerian syndicates are working with Indians to smuggle drugs in Malaysia. Indian nationals living in Malaysia are the top drug smugglers, overtaking Iranian and Nigerian syndicates. 8. Attacks on internet freedom The BJP was not supportive of quashing 66(A), the most tyrannical way to attack online free speech India had seen. We had expected a bit of hope after Modi came to power, as he had tweeted in favor of free speech with the #GOIBlocks hashtag. Then suddenly, we saw a U turn. Last month, the Centre justified to the Supreme Court that we needed to add even more restriction to the internet, as compared to print and television. You can stilll be put behind bars for Facebook messages, and the government is already attempting to draft a law modeled on 66A. 9. Attempts to communalise education For the last 2 decades, saffron interests have attempted to rewrite history with misleading and biased content. For example, the Saraswati Shishu Mandir Prakashan, in its class 4 and 5 curriculum, portrayed all non-Hindu communities as foreigners, claimed that the Qutab Minar was built by Samudragupta, and that Ashoka's advocacy of Ahimsa (non-violence) spread "cowardice". More recently, the discussions at this year's Indian Science Congress seemed like a science fiction conference, with talks of magical bacteria, Vedic planes and surgery. 10. Pollution According to a recent survey on the Most Livable Cities in the world by ECA International, New Delhi from India has emerged as one of the most polluted cities, not just in India and Asia, but also in the world. And Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad aren't far behind! 11. Sadhus being involved in illicit activities. Murder. Castration. Rape. Hoarding illegal weapons. Sexual assault. Prostitution. There's no limit to how evil some of our richest Godmen have become in the pursuit of power. 12. Police delays in filing FIRs There are now countless cases of attempting to not only delay filing FIRs, but also humiliating and even harassing rape victims. These delays have often been motivated by the attacker's political clout, or by laziness in wanting to take action after filing an FIR. 13. Caste violence and oppression A recent survey has established that 27 percent of Indians still practice caste untouchability. This is not, in many ways, news at all. Most Indians have grown up in an India where we have seen such behavior, though the kind of people who read English-language op-eds probably think of it as something that happens in rural, backward villages rather than urban India. But this survey also packs a few other surprises. It shows almost every third Hindu (30 percent) admitted to the practice. That is, they refused to allow Dalits, the former "untouchables", into their kitchen or to use their utensils. But bizarrely enough, data from the survey showed that untouchability was also practiced by Sikhs (23 percent), Muslims (18 percent) and Christians (5 percent).
