Evelyn Sharma - Maxim Shoot 2015 Lakes in India are some of the most beautiful and serene natural attractions, beckoning to several tourists through the year. While some are artificial, others are either freshwater lakes or brackish water lakes. North to south, east to west, take a look at some of the most stunning lakes in India. 1. Dal Lake, Jammu and Kashmir Located in the Jammu Valley, the Dal Lake is the second largest in India. Tourists in Srinagar make sure a boat ride along its waterways is a part of their itinerary. Other than the natural beauty of the surroundings, the lake has many colourful shikharas that offer rides to visitors as well as houseboats where tourists can stay on the lake as a retreat of calm. 2. Vembanad Lake, Kerala The Vembanad is closely associated with the backwaters and lagoon that picturises life in rural Kerala. Major attractions here are the Snakeboat race or Vallam Kali held in the rainy season in August, and of course experiencing life on the many rice boats that sail by the waters. 3. Chilika Lake, Odisha The Chilika is the world's largest inland saltwater lagoon and India's largest coastal lake. It is the sight for several migratory birds which makes it a bird watcher's paradise. The lake is a source of livelihood for the tribal people of the state who live along it. 4. Pushkar Lake, Rajasthan Pushkar is a famous pilgrimage center of Rajasthan and is one of the few places on the Earth where Brahma is worshiped. On an average, the lake attracts 5,000 pilgrims daily. People from all over the country converge here to wash off their sins. The depth of water has plunged to just 1.5 m from a depth of 9 m observed in the late 1980s. 5. Wular Lake, Jammu and Kashmir One of the largest freshwater lakes in Asia and India, the Wular lake is 24 km across and surrounded by nearby mountain ranges which provide a lovely backdrop on a perfect day. The waters are a source of livelihood for the locals who live alongside it. The lake is surpassed in beauty by the Nagin Lake and Dal Lake that are also in the region. 6. Loktak Lake, Manipur Loktak is the largest freshwater lake in north eastern India and has a high concentration of phumdis (a series of floating islands that are heterogenous masses of soil, vegetation and organic matter). It serves as a source of water supply for hydro power generation, irrigation and drinking water for the local population and wildlife. The Keibul Lamjao National Park nearby is home to the endangered sangai (Manipur brow antlered deer). 7. Damdama Lake, Haryana A popular weekend getaway near Delhi, the lake is located near the Aravali hills and is a lovely place for boating and rock climbing. The Sohna hills are not very far away from the lake. 8. Lake Pichola, Rajasthan The poster boy of tourism in Rajasthan and the iconic symbol of Udaipur, this is an artificial freshwater lake. Udai Sagar Lake, Fateh Sagar Lake, Rajsamand Lake and Jaisamand Lake are the four others along with Lake Pichola that make Udaipur the City of Lakes. 9. Gurudongmar Lake, Sikkim One of the highest (17,100 ft) fresh water lakes, the Gurudongmar is located north east of the Kachenjunga range. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Dongmar, touched and sanctified the lake, and thus, even in extreme winter, a portion of the lake does not freeze. The lake is also one of the sources of River Teesta, which flows through Sikkim, West Bengal and Bangladesh to merge with the Bay of Bengal. The water of Gurudongmar Lake is said to have curative properties and many tourists carry the water with them on their way back. Close to the lake, there is a 'Sarva Dharma Sthal', and as the name suggests, it's a place of worship for all religions. 10. Bhimtal Lake, Uttarakhand Located 22 km from Nainital, Bhimtal Lake is at an altitude of 1370 meters. It is surrounded by the Kumaoun hills and is named after the second Pandava, Bhima, from the Mahabharata. Nearby the Bhimeshwara Temple is said to be where Bhima came to worship Shiva during the vanavas period of the Pandavas. There is an island in the middle of the lake and a restaurant is located on it. Tourists reach it by boats. The total distance of the island from the lake shore is around 91 meters. The best time to visit the lake lies between April and July and September and October. 11. Pakhal Lake, Telangana Pakhal Lake is a man-made lake in the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary in Warangal district. It is situated amid undulating forest land hills and dales and is a popular retreat for tourists. Set around the shores of this lake is the Pakhal Wild Life Sanctuary with an area of 839 km2. It is a dense forest shelter for a variety of fauna. If you are lucky, you can spot a tiger, leopard or a bear roaming about freely in the wild. 12. Osman Sagar Lake, Andhra Pradesh Osman Sagar Lake, popularly known as the Gandipet, lies 20 km west of Hyderabad. It is a man-made lake created by the dam across the Isa, a tributary of the river Musi, and is a source of water supply to the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The lake is surrounded by parks and grass on all sides. The ideal time to visit the lake is after the monsoons, although tourists are seen here throughout the year. Overlooking the lake is the Sagar Mahal which was once the summer residence of the Nizam of Hyderabad. Today it is a lake resort that is open to tourists. 13. Bedhnikund, Uttarakhand Bedini is a Himalayan Alpine meadow, situated at an elevation of 3,354 metres in the Chamoli district. It falls on the way to Roopkund and the Trisul and Nanda Ghunti peaks are visible from here. This lush green meadow is adorned with blooms in a wide range of varieties. This small lake is a feature of the meadow that draws travellers as it looks more like an oasis. 14. Lonar Crater Lake, Maharashtra Located in the Buldana district of Maharashtra, this lake is said to be of extraterrestrial or volcanic origin due to the strange chemical elements present in the water and the soil surrounding it. Numerous temples surround the lake, most of which stand in ruins today, except for the temple of Daitya Sudan at the centre of the Lonar town, which was built in honour of Vishnu's victory over the giant Lonasur. It is a fine example of early Hindu architecture. Vishnumandir, Wagh Mahadev, Mora Mahadev, Munglyacha Mandir and Goddess Kamalaja Devia are the other temples found inside the crater.

Want to Get Pregnant: Nicole Scherzinger after split Everyone likes to call themselves 'an adrenaline junkie'. Seriously, the term gets thrown around way too loosely nowadays. Guys, getting an absolutely random tattoo and watching Roadies at home doesn't make you a tough cookie. If you really think you can handle the racing heartbeat and the sudden rush in your tummy, these are the things you should be planning to do. Fasten your seat belts because these will knock your socks off. 1. Sky diving - The Palm of Dubai Skydiving over the Palm is a special experience even for regular skydivers. The check-in process is easy, the facilities sparkling clean and impressive. Instructors are friendly, reassuring and lots of fun. These guys know what they're doing and do it extremely well. It is something you'll remember for the longest time. Not for the faint-hearted though. Actually, none of these points below are. 2. Takabisha Roller Coaster - Japan It is not called the steepest roller coaster in the world for nothing. See that, on the extreme right? That's a 121° drop. Located at the Fuji-Q Highland theme park in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, Japan, this one would put the best of roller coasters around the world to shame. Extremely badass. 3. Running with the bulls - Pamplona, Spain No it's not as sunny as they showed it in 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara'. People have suffered some serious injuries while taking part in this. So if your stamina isn't in the best shape, I suggest you let this be. This is quite literally putting yourself in front of death. 4. The Cage of Death - Australia Visitors can get up close and personal with the world's biggest saltwater crocodiles, with only 2 inches of glass between them. Every dive includes 15 minutes in the enclosure with one of these massive reptiles. Regular feeding by our crocodile handlers when people are inside the cage encourages more movement from the crocodiles and ensures a face-to-face encounter that must be seen to be believed! 5. Mountain biking - Yungas Road, Bolivia It is legendary for its extreme danger and in 1995 the Inter-American Development Bank christened it the "world's most dangerous road". In 2006 one estimate stated that 200 to 300 travellers were killed yearly along the road. The road includes cross markings on many of the spots where vehicles have fallen. They say man will fight hardest when it comes to his survival. Go biking on this road and you'll know why. 6. Diving with great white sharks - South Africa There isn't much to explain in this one. But here's some vital info which explains the gravity of the situation in the best possible way - the biggest great white sharks can reach up to 20 feet long, but most are smaller. The average female is 15-16 feet long, while males reach 11-13 feet. They are dangerous with a capital D. 7. Devil's Pool - Zambia Devil's Pool is adjacent to the famous Livingstone Island situated on the edge of the Victoria Falls. One can choose to enjoy an exhilarating swim at the edge of the falls during their Livingstone Island visit. The Devil's Pool is usually open between mid August and mid January - depending on Zambezi water levels. People say it's scarier to look at than experience. But then people are crazy too. 8. Zorb Rotorua - Rotorua, New Zealand Probably the safest and the most fun thing to do off the lot. You enter this massive ball which is then rolled down a hill. Exactly like Jack and Jill. Cute. 9. Dinner in the Sky Dinner in the Sky is a Belgian-based novelty restaurant service which uses a crane to hoist its diners, table, and waiting staff 150 feet into the air. Forbes magazine called it one of the world's ten most unusual restaurants. Dinner in the Sky has mobile services available in 15 nations, and has operations in many cities including Paris and Las Vegas. What happens when the food goes cold though? Hmm? 10. Gravity Flying Fox - New Zealand So you're basically suspended from a zipline 1.1 kilometers long at a height of 175 meters above a river. Fun, right? Wait for this, you'll be travelling up and down the zipline at an exhilarating speed of a 160 kmph or 100 miles per hour. First one of it's kind in the world! 11. Stratosphere X-Scream Roller Coaster - Las Vegas, Nevada Americans do some bat-shit crazy things and call them adventure sports. Take this one for example. On the X Scream atop the Stratosphere Tower, a 69-foot pivoting track propels as many as eight passengers almost 30 feet over the edge of the building at 30 mph almost 900 feet above the ground. If you're trying to do the math, don't bother. Just trust me when I say it's really fast and really high. So if you've ever wondered if you have cahunas made of steel, try getting the first seat on this one. 12. Ice Swimming - Finland From cahunas of steel, to cahunas of ice. Ice swimming in Finland is a thing, seriously. Not for those taking out their sweaters at 20 degree Celsius in India. 13. Devil's Eye Cave - Florida It has been said that even today around 90% of the ocean on this planet is unknown. Even the bravest of the brave would think twice hearing that. This one is really intense. Four underwater passages extend from the pool under the opening, from 5 feet (1.5 m) to 90 feet (27 m) under the surface of the water. The passage called chamber 3, 70 feet (21 m) under water, contained animal and human remains and artifacts. The animal remains, which appeared to be associated with the human remains and artifacts, were from extinct (Pleistocene) species, including mastodons, ground sloths, camels, horses, dire wolves, bog lemmings, Florida spectacled bears, saber-toothed cats, and peccaries. The human remains have been dated to about 7,500 BC. Very, very intriguing. 14. Wing Walking - United Kingdom This is just ridiculous. Do yourself a favour, don't bother about this. 15. Grand Canyon Skywalk - Mohave County, Arizona One of the most recognizable and popular travel magazines, Travel + Leisure, has crowned the Grand Canyon Skywalk as the "best new bridge." Located at Grand Canyon West's Eagle Point, the Skywalk is the only place where visitors can step out onto a glass walkway nearly 4,000 feet above the floor of the Grand Canyon. Pretty cool. 16. Heaven's Gate Mountain - Hunan, China Tianmen Shan (Heaven's Gate Mountain) is a cave natural arch eroded through a karst syncline. It is located about 8 km south of the city of Zhangjiajie (formerly Dayong) in northern Hunan Province, China. It is accessed from Zhangjiajie by what may be the world's longest skytram (7.5 km) that leads to a bus ride on a very winding road, followed by a set of stairs with 999 steps. People have said that riding the skytram feels like riding a roller coaster. I'm not too sure how I feel about that though. 17. Cliff walking - Hu Shan Mountain, China The exhilarating mountain hike is not for the faint of heart (duh!). You are given two straps to hook onto wires on the path. The plank path includes steel rod ladders, footholds carved out of the cliff and narrow wooden plank walks. All of this is located thousands of feet above the ground. What the hell is this woman doing? No freakin' way. 18. Marathon de Sable, Morocco A sheer endurance test, this one. Known as the toughest race on Earth, the race is a grueling multi-stage adventure through a formidable landscape in one of the world's most inhospitable climates - the Sahara desert. The rules require you to be self-sufficient, to carry with you on your back, everything except water that you need to survive. You are given a place in a tent to sleep at night, but any other equipment and food must be carried. 19. Volcano Boarding - Cerro Negro, Nicaragua While racing down an active volcano at 30 mph on a little piece of wood sounds really fun, volcano boarding can also be a bit dangerous. Volcanic rocks are not as slippery as snowflakes, there's a lot more friction to deal with. Crashing into sharp volcanic rocks at that speed will leave a mark (or ten). __._,_.___ Posted by: "Janhavi Kashyap" <janhavi.kashyap@yahoo.co.in>

__,_._,___ | Ode to Love by Jennifer Militello Posted: 20 Apr 2015 03:33 AM PDT Place its toothpicked pit in water, watch the grist of its insides grow. Witness its populous bloom, honeycombed with rough. Its cobblestones grip the heart in its mitt, a closed fist thickened and gritty as silt. The swamp of the plumb beat adamant as weeds. The dish of which is salted by complexities or cries. It is a house in which we cannot live, the quiver on the arrow we cannot launch. It grows late over Nevada as we watch. Strikes its gullies: we grow burnt as a moth. Mimics a sleep of archives and the small lies all forget. Mimics all laughter broken by the time it leaves the mouth. With its moving parts, its chimes, its gleam, it muddies our archways, lying low, gives off noise and steam; its mechanics clear the fence. It must be wooed. Must be quieted. Hush. It must be soothed. Has a snag. Has a bleed. A drape. Flaps awkwardly, at its edges, a heron. At its center, a wide bottom perfect with fish. Copyright © 2015 by Jennifer Militello. Esha Gupta puts her best foot forward Stuck in a corporate rut? Sick to death with the monotony of your surroundings? These little lifestyle habits are simple to adopt and will really change the way you sail your boat. 1. Sleep should be right on top of your priority list. Proper sleep can do wonders to your life. In fact, it has been scientifically proven that 8 hours of sleep is a must for the human body and a lack of sleep leads to stress and anxiety. Your days will become more productive with a consistent sleep pattern. 2. A hot water bath This is the best way to relax your body. It washes your worries temporarily and helps bring a better thought process. 3. Take out some 'you' time. Every day, make it a point to spend some time with yourself. You can have a walk, sit in a silent corner or take yourself out for lunch or coffee. It really works and helps you introspect better. 4. Maintain a journal Write down anything and everything. Studies have shown that writing is the best way to vent. On the other hand, you can also maintain a happy journal wherein you can make note of the good things that have happened to you. Re-visiting these diaries will definitely make you happier. 5. Light a candle Switch off the lights and light candles. Try lighting scented candles - they bring a sense of calm and can help you relax at the end of a tiring day. 6. Give a lot of hugs If you think this is inspired from Munna Bhai MBBS then you are absolutely right. We believe in Jaddu ki Jhappis. Apparently a lot of skin contact releases oxytocin which makes your mood better. 7. Walk around your work place By walk, we don't mean working out. Just one quick round around the office complex at any random time of the day can elevate your energy. It can enable your mind to think better. If you feel bored at work, this is what you should do. 8. Drink lots and lots of water Your body needs it more than you think it does. 9. Buy flowers for yourself Not for anyone else, but yourself. Flowers bring a lot of positivity. 10. Clean your room You'll be surprised at how relaxing cleaning can be. Some studies say that cleaning actually helps you sort your mind and wipes away unnecessary thoughts. 11. Watch an old favourite movie A movie marathon or even replaying your favourite scene can really change your mood. Try it right away. 12. Turn your surroundings into your comfort place Buy funky bed sheets, get a bulletin board or make a reading corner for yourself. Define a place in your house that is your feel-good space. This is the best gift you can give yourself. 13. Make everything yellow Yellow is the colour of sunshine, new beginnings and freshness. Paint yourself a yellow corner or just buy a cute yellow coloured teddy bear. Winnie The Pooh is a great start! 14. Reread a children's book. Re-reading a book that you read while growing up is really a treat. You take a lot more from it than you did in your teenage years. Instant happiness! __._,_.___ Posted by: "Delisha Choksi" <delishachoksi@yahoo.in>

| [Fropki] Things Every Adult Needs To Learn From Children Posted: 19 Apr 2015 10:21 AM PDT

Bra Size 36C Girl Attacks her Boss It might come as a surprise but kids are unusually perceptive and smart about worldly things, if you really, really think about it. Don't believe us? Take a look at 11 things you, as a fully functioning, capable adult, could learn from kids. 1. It's really okay to cry. As we grow up, we find it extremely difficult to vent our emotions. We feel scared to cry or openly express things and feelings that hurt us. Sadly, that's not how it should be. On the other hand, children are all out there with their emotions. They'll let us know when they are low, sad or angry. And it'd be a really good idea if we incorporated that in our lifestyle. 2. Forget everything and play together. Yesterday was katti and today is abba. It's that simple for kids. Conversely, for adults it becomes this never ending saga of ego. Children don't make their tiffs last for ages, and neither should we. 3. Asking questions without wondering if they are silly or not. We become so conscious as we grow up that we begin to over-analyse things. We think 100 times before asking a question. Wouldn't it be great, if, just like kids, we could do whatever we want and not feel scared about becoming a joke? 4. Not making a fuss about saying 'sorry'. Kids are quite sensitive at heart and they are quick to understand when they are wrong. They become teary eyed in no time and don't think twice before uttering 'sorry'. What about us? We take forever to apologise, if at all. 5. Not taking scars so seriously. No matter how badly kids hurt themselves, they always return to their game. Bruises or no bruises, the game always goes on. 6. Paying attention to the little things in life It's amazing how kids can find interest in the smallest things. They can spend an entire day staring at a leaf or just playing with water droplets or a paper plane. Everything and anything can amuse them. Growing up takes us closer to material things like bigger pay checks and fancy cars. We forget that little things can make us happy too. 7. How not to judge. This is the most important thing we should learn from kids. They are not prejudiced, racist, sexist, opinionated or anything of the sort. They don't care at all. If they like you, they like you the way you are. Ring a bell? 8. Failure is not an option, only determination is. Kids fall down endless times and they learn to pick themselves up. And all they do is get up again, again and again. That determination is something we should hold on to for the rest of our lives. We'll fall and we'll fail, but we shouldn't give up on ourselves. 9. Being the hero of our own story. Whenever a child narrates an anecdote, it is always in first person and they themselves are the hero. Some people might perceive this as living in a fantasy, but isn't it a great way to inspire yourself? Grown ups like ourselves are pros at pulling ourselves down. We really are. 10. Being happy for no reason. Kids smile for no reason. They'll laugh out loud if you carry them and play with them. As for adults, laugh-less days are far too common, and people actually sign up for things like the 100 Happy Days Challenge, that encourage one to make a conscious effort to be happy. What kind of a life are we leading? Ask yourself. 11. Being spontaneous Kids don't have a filter or a guard; they are completely in-your-face. They will call you bad if they don't like you and they'll give you a peck on your cheeks if they are fond of you. They don't think before they act and that's good in a way. On the other hand, we think too much and act too less. __._,_.___ Posted by: "Delisha Choksi" <delishachoksi@yahoo.in>

I have to look at how much I too need my enemies to stay my enemies ... Showing up with a bullhorn to cry out against someone else is seriously the best way for me to avoid being the one being cried out against. ~ Nadia Bolz Weber ("Enemies, Retribution and Women Giving Birth – a Sermon on Jonah")

__,_._,___ | After the Winter by Claude McKay Posted: 18 Apr 2015 03:30 AM PDT Some day, when trees have shed their leaves And against the morning’s white The shivering birds beneath the eaves Have sheltered for the night, We’ll turn our faces southward, love, Toward the summer isle Where bamboos spire to shafted grove And wide-mouthed orchids smile. And we will seek the quiet hill Where towers the cotton tree, And leaps the laughing crystal rill, And works the droning bee. And we will build a cottage there Beside an open glade, With black-ribbed blue-bells blowing near, And ferns that never fade.
