Take a look at 13 magnificent structures that will stand tall after their completion this year.
1. The Park Lodha, Mumbai, India
One of Mumbai's most awaited projects, The Park from the Lodha group is a 17 acre master-plan district. The project is inspired by great urban parks and has space which is equivalent to 6 football fields put together.
2. Al Noor Tower, Casablanca, Morocco
Also known as the 'Lord of the Rings' tower, Casablanca's tallest tower is slated to become Africa's tallest tower after its completion. The building will have 114 stories and will rise 540 meters skywards.
3. Louvre, Abu Dhabi, UAE
The Louvre Abu Dhabi is a planned museum which will be one of the world's most talked about buildings after its completion.The museum will be part of a US$27 billion tourist and cultural development project for Saadiyat Island, a complex which is planned to include three other museums, including Guggenheim Museum and the Zayed National Museum.
4. 432 Park Avenue, New York
Touted to be the tallest residential tower in the western hemisphere after its completion, 432 Park Avenue is a 426 meter high tower and will consist of 104 apartments which will be sold at around $82 million!
5. The Smithsonian Building of African American History, Washington DC
The Smithsonian Building of African American History will be a historic building after its completion. The aesthetic building is made up of aluminium panels coated with bronze and is designed by architect David Adjaye.
6. Vietnam Pavillion, Milan
This pavillion will be made of bamboos and will be made into a lotus structure, because the lotus is Vietnam's national flower.
7. Shimao Wonderland Intercontinental, Shanghai
Underwater rooms are what will make this Shanghai hotel quite unique after its completion. The hotel will have 19 storeys, 17 of which are below ground level with two underwater floors. Two of the floors are above the 90-100 metre deep quarry!
8. Shanghai Tower, Shanghai
Designed by American architectural firm Gensler, the steel structure has 127 stories and sits on a 30,370 square metre area. The tower will be open to the public in mid-2015.
9. A House for Essex, UK
Made by artist Grayson Perry, A House for Essex is a two bedroom property which is inspired by fairy tales. The house will feature slanted roofs, dormer windows and patterned walls, and will be open to the public in 2015.
10. Mexico City International Airport, Mexico City
The new Mexico City International Airport will have one large terminal, which will spread 6,000,000 sq ft! It will have six runways and will be developed by the global engineering and consultancy company Arup Group Limited.
11. Dr Chau Chak wing, UTS Business School, Sydney
Described as the "the most beautiful squashed brown paper bag", Frank Gehry's new teaching and research facility for Sydney's University of Technology is a curvy structure which is created using 320,000 custom-designed bricks and resembles a brown paper bag.
12. Federation Tower, Moscow
The construction of Federation Tower began in 2003, but was stopped in August 2011. It is now expected to be completed in 2015. The tower will have 97 storeys and will also feature the highest digital clock in the world.
13. Marina 101, Dubai
The 101 storey building will be another feather in Dubai's cap after Burj Khalifa. The first 33 floors of the skyscraper will have a 5-star Hard Rock hotel with 281 rooms, while the floors from 34 to 100 will have residential apartments. After its completion, Marina 101 will be the tallest residential building in the world.
