Dear Poem-a-Day Subscriber,

This month, thousands of students across the U.S. are writing letters to poets who serve as Chancellors of the Academy of American Poets, as part of our Dear Poet project.

We created this project as a way to engage students during National Poetry Month and to highlight that poetry is a living art form made by poets they can reach.

As Imani, a sixth grader, wrote, “Mr. Juan Felipe Herrera, your poem has influenced the way I think about life. It asks me many questions, including this important one: What are the things that make you, you?”

Ultimately, that’s what all poems help us discover: our humanity, our unique struggles and joys.

With your help we can continue projects like Dear Poet and Poem-a-Day, which bring new poems to hundreds of thousands of readers—including students like Imani. Please donate today to help us continue bringing programs like these to students and poetry lovers.

Thank you for your special support this National Poetry Month, which makes our programs possible.

                                          Sincerely,

P.S. We are just $5,000 away from our National Poetry Month campaign goal. Your gift today will help us reach this goal. And, in thanks for a gift of $30 or more, we’ll send you an exclusive Gwendolyn Brooks poet’s notebook.
