India is full of potholed roads, we admit. But then the thrill of taking a road-trip in the country and exploring the scenic beauty of India by road is unparalleled. What if we told you some of the cities in India are best viewed on a two-wheeler? Feeling the wind whistle past your helmet, the thrill of snaking through narrow lanes and twisty roads, zooming past trucks and cars...?

Some thrills of a two-wheeler can only be felt, not described. And when you combine a love for travel and a set of two wheels, the world is your oyster! But which cities can you explore on your favourite set of wheels? Read on to know!

1. South Mumbai, Mumbai

The never-ending expanse of sea, amazing Victorian architecture and open roads... South Mumbai is one of the best places within the city to explore on a two-wheeler. What's more, there are tons of eateries to stop by and hog at. Make sure you ride along Fort, and take in all the British architecture. Or if you're tired of riding, just stop your scooter by the sea, stop, breathe in the fresh sea air and take off again!

2. All of Goa

The scooter and bike capital of India. Seriously. If you visit Goa and travel any way other than by two-wheeler, then you don't deserve to be in Goa. The roads around Baga and Candolim are a riot with vacationers and locals zooming around on their two-wheelers. Getting a two-wheeler on rent in Goa is the easiest thing ever. Most of the locals rent them out. What's best? The petrol rates in Goa are cheap too! Ideal, isn't it?

3. Hampi, Vijaynagar

The little village of Hampi is one of the best places to explore on your scooter. It can save you a lot of trouble of walking, plus you can go along at your own pace and enjoy the ride with spectacular views. In fact, the temples of Hampi are a site to see while you're riding around. There are even many scooter renting stores right outside the ruins for you to hop on and explore. 

4. Chandni Chowk, Delhi

The tiny little lanes will enthrall you with the local seller wares, the crazy confusion of the city and its true colourful form. The roads and lanes are narrow enough to easily allow you to roam on your scooter and while you're in there, do not forget to sample the delicious parathas at Parathewali Galli! 

5. Ludara, Jaisalmer

While in Jaisalmer try taking your scooter from the Fort ruins to Ludara. On your way, stop by the sand dunes and take a short camel safari if you wish. Taking a scooter through the narrow lanes, you will be able to experience the real Rajasthani life. Do not forget to stop by a dhaba for some lip-smacking Rajasthani food!

6. Malleswaram, Bangalore

The go-to place for every Bangalorean for shopping, hanging out or just buying daily necessities. The road also houses some of the most popular malls and is honestly, the coolest place to hop on and explore on your scooter.

7. M.G Road, Pune

A delight for all foodies and people looking to chill their evenings, M.G Road is one of the most famous hangout places in the city of Pune. The roads are perfect to explore on a scooter as you can zoom past all the crowds, easily park by any stall, and basically enjoy yourself with friends.

8. Sector 1, Chandigarh

A beautiful tourist location in India, the wide roads, lots of spaces and sights like the Rock Garden make Chandigarh an ideal place to explore on a scooter. Traveling along Sector 1, you will get an idea of just how the city is and its touristy attractions. If you are a guy you can also try out the "gedi" route on your scooter. 

9. Park Street, Kolkata

'THE' hangout for everyone from Kolkata, Park Street is the most happening place in the city. Loved by the youth, hop onto your scooters and go exploring the intricacies of the gastronomic capital of the country!

10. Hill Road, Mumbai

Leading straight to the heart of Mumbai, Bollywood and beaches, Hill Road is one of the most popular roads for Mumbaikars. Whether it's the shopping, the chaat or the "crowd", Hill Road is just the place to explore on a scooter as it let's you navigate the crowds easily. Just park your scooter opposite Mannat or Sallu Bhai's house, and wave like crazy!

11. Janpath Market, Delhi

Another great shopping destination, Janpath offers great sights and fun for locals as well as tourists. Explore the place on your two wheels and discover new facets of the city! If you want to shop, pick up something for your family and stow it away under the scooter seat. 

12. Race Course, Coimbatore

A short ride along the race course on your two wheeler will let you experience the cool air, lots of trees, smiling faces and some quick roadside refreshments like soda or chips.

Book cafes have caught on all over India. They provide a venue for bibliophiles to gather and discuss literature or just to browse through a library before settling for some visual and imaginative stimulation over a cup of coffee (or any other beverage) and a bite to eat.

1. Kitab Khana, Mumbai 

Acclaimed as one of the most beautiful book stores in Mumbai, this cafe is a treasure trove of books not only in English, but also in regional languages like Marathi, Hindi and Gujarati. The in-house cafe 'Food for Thought' offers wholesome and hearty meals, but be warned - the food is vegetarian and absolutely delicious.

2. Literati Book Shop & Cafe, Goa

This bookstore and cafe sells new, second-hand and antiquarian books in Bardez, northern Goa. The cafe is truly a haven for the literati with genres ranging autobiographies, fiction, non-fiction and personal development. The proprietress, Diviya Kapur, regularly arranges events such as book releases, author meets, book readings, workshops, movie screenings and discussions. The cafe serves delightful Italian fare, so if you're sick of the sun, you know where to go.

3. Pagdandi Chai Cafe, Pune

Pagdandi is a concept store that promotes what is otherwise not considered 'mainstream'. "We focus on independent publishers. We are currently stocking a large selection of Tara Books and are in talks with Leftword and Zubaan. Our gallery wall showcases works by budding artists and photographers. Our library thrives on community donations. A person who donates books gets a free library membership in return," says Vishal, the owner.

The cafe serves simple snacks (do try their frozen yoghurt) and the decor brings about an 'adda' atmosphere with low benches and mattresses for patrons to relax while conversing or reading.

4. Leaping Windows, Bangalore

Perfect for all those people who love comic books and graphic novels, this cafe is paradise. The walls are decorated with characters from popular comics to give readers a feeling that they are truly immersed in a world where the imagination has no boundaries. Leaping Windows has a lot of graphic novels that are rare like Walking Dead, Sin City and Japanese Manga. It initially began as an online archive of comics but later evolved to give its fans a physical space to carry on doing what they do best. The Smoked Sausage and Olives Penne, Orange Fennel Pancakes and Four Cheese Pizza come highly recommended.

5. The Bibliophilia Cafe (TBC), Guwahati

TBC started as a social initiative to get more people into the habit of reading and has now evolved into a social space and library with resources like high speed internet for access to several e-books, journals and online libraries from around the world. In the heart of North East India's hub of books, Panbazar, the cafe is devoted to giving book lovers a forum. It has set itself up in university campuses as well as in rural areas.

6. Spell and Bound, Delhi

The mysterious old world charm of this bookstore cum cafe attracts many bibliophiles who want to enjoy books that are making headlines in the literature world and classics that we can never get tired of. 7. The Coffee Cup, Hyderabad

Coffee lovers and bibliophiles alike congregate here in this quaint cafe with interiors that have been inspired by a vintage Hyderabadi style. The book corner houses several genres of books inclluding fiction, non-fiction, children's fiction and comics. The cafe menu specialises in contemporary American food. 

Photography workshops, storytelling sessions and exhibitions are regularly organised here. Weekends are reserved for musicians, artists and performers.

8. Cafe Fiction, Gangtok

If you want to take time out from the scenery and temples, you will definitely find your solace here. Café Fiction has books on Sikkimese and Tibetian history among others. The cafe offers delicious Himalayan cuisine along with steaming Sikkimese tea which is just perfect on a chilly day. Do try their signature square cookies.

9. Cafe Turtle, New Delhi

A Khan Market landmark, there's never a vacant table in this old-school book store (Full Circle) and cafe, despite being labelled "overpriced". If you do get a table, enjoy dining amid a treasure trove of books.

10.  Cafe Ssong, Pune

Getting away from the hustle and bustle of Pune can be hard these days but Cafe Ssong provides the prefect refuge. Quiet and peaceful, the cafe offers seating outdoors when the weather isn't so bad. Consider it your sanctum centorum for reading books. There's free wi-fi and if that isn't enough to tempt you, the cute curios from Korea are just adorable to look at. 

The cafe serves beverages only, so if you're famished, you might want to go somewhere else.

11. Cafe STORY, Kolkata

With its wide array of graphic novels, comic books, board games, the cafe is the perfect nursery for artists and writers who get inspiration in an instant. There's plenty of paper and pencils to jot down your thoughts or sketch a picture that has captivated your imagination. Art supplies are in abundance and you can paint a picture if you buy a canvas.

The in-house menu includes an interesting mix of salads, pastas, sandwiches, falafels, and risottos.

12. Illiterati, Mcleodganj

Bookworms in Dharamshala finally have a place they can call home. The Illiterati bookstore and cafe is run by Yannick, a Belgian native, who has made the scenic hill station his new home.

Some of the tables are on a balcony that faces the hills, but there's always something to distract you! In this case, the scrumptious menu that will make you drool.

13. Attagalatta, Bangalore

Started by two IT professionals who were passionate about reviving the regional literature scene in their city, Atta Galatta hopes to achieve intellectual discussions and performances over coffee and baked goodies. Literature works in Kannada and other regional languages are also available in their English translations. Do try the cupcakes and cookies, and if you like the bread, they're available in loaves for you to take home. The fruit bread is the best in my opinion!

Of a Spirit, speaking to me,
Close, but invisible,
And throws me under a spell
At the kindling vision it brings;
And for a moment I rejoice,
And believe in transcendent things
That would make of this muddy earth
A spot for the splendid birth
Of everlasting lives,
Whereto no night arrives;
And this gaunt gray gallery
A tabernacle of worth
On this drab-aired afternoon,
When you can barely see
Across its hazed lacune
If opposite aught there be

The Indian Constitution is one of the longest documents in the world, and is possibly the most important in India. And here's what you didn't know about it. 

1. The Indian Constitution is the longest in the world. 

It has 448 articles, 12 schedules and 98 amendments. On the other hand, the American constitution is the shortest.

2. It took nearly 3 years to draft the Indian Constitution.

The Constituent Assembly had 284 members, out of which 15 were women. The Drafting Committee submitted the draft in November 1949, after which they took three more years to complete it. 

3. The Constitution of India was handwritten and calligraphed both in English and Hindi.  

It wasn't typed or printed. The original copies are kept safely inside helium-filled cases in the library of the Parliament of India. 

4. The Indian Constitution is called the bag of borrowings. 

The Indian Constitution has taken various features from other constitutions. The concepts of liberty, equality and fraternity were taken from the French Constitution. The idea of 5 year plans was taken from the USSR and the concept of socio-economic rights was taken from Ireland. Most importantly, the law on which the Supreme Court works was taken from Japan. There are many other concepts that have been borrowed from other countries. 

5. The Indian Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950. 

284 members of the Constituent Assembly signed the handwritten documents on January 24, 1950. Two days after, on 26th January, India celebrated its first Republic Day. 

6. Our Republic day is celebrated for 3 days. 

Beating the retreat marks the end of the celebration on January 29. 

7.  The national emblem of India was adopted on January 26, 1950. 

The national emblem of India is an adapted version of the Sarnath Lion of Ashoka. 

8. B.R. Ambedkar had a major role to play in the formulation of the Indian Constitution. 

Ambedkar was the chief architect of our constitution. It is because of him that our constitution covers a wide range of civil liberties including the freedom of religion and the abolition of untouchability.

Oh how we wish we could get back the little pleasures of life!

1. Star gazing.

Born and brought up in cities, the modern generation has absolutely no idea what the night sky actually looks like. Resort to pictures all you want but this is the one aspect of life that can never come back.

2. Sparrows chirping.

Thanks to all your cell-phone towers and radiation, sparrows are dying. It is extremely rare to wake up to a sparrow chirping by your window today and the little bird is seriously in danger.

3. Writing a letter.

It's the email age, and writing a letter is just another task. And that is why, if you ever receive a written letter, it becomes a memory, a special moment. 

4. Making a landline call to your crush and hoping her dad doesn't answer.

This. Oh this.

5. Giving missed calls on landline phones.

Once again, to your crush. Or simply to irritate that horrid aunty in the building who wouldn't let you play in the evenings. 

6. Being able to distinguish between changing cities due to a change in air.

You can thank pollution for this one. Have you ever felt the difference between the airs of a place while travelling? Give it a try when you're visiting your hometown. It might work. But in congested cities, everything smells the same. Smokey, mucky and icky.

7. Running barefoot on the earth.

Unfortunately, there's very little earth left to run on. It's all only concrete.

8. Pen pals.

Did you ever have a pen pal in your childhood? The fun of writing letters to someone new, understanding the person, and making friends. Oh the thrill!

9. Playing badminton with friends from the opposite building with the wall acting as the net.

Classic!

10. Holding photographs in your hand.

After that epic wait for photos to develop, you neatly filed them in the album, labelled each one and just held them remembering each memory.

11. Sipping tea while reading the newspaper sitting in the balcony.

In today's world, there's just no time to sit back and relax and appreciate the finer things in life. Sitting quietly and sipping tea early in the morning and just spending some me-time is a concept that seems to have disappeared. 

12. The thrill of finding something after hours of research in a library.

With a library in everyone's pocket, real libraries are dying out. We seriously wish we could go back to the days where 'Google it' was not the solution to every problem.

13. Receiving coins as blessings from your elders.

Now even beggars on streets look at you in disgust if you give them pennies instead of a higher amount. Your kids get wads of cash from you. But you can never replace the thrill of your parents giving you 50 paise or 1 Re coins to add to your piggy bank and you collecting those coins over months and years!

[Fropki] 8 Places You Must Visit Apart From Goa This Holiday Season

Goa is passé, people. I mean, if you haven't been there yet (WHAT? You haven't been to GOA yet?) then that's the first place you should visit. But then there are others who have been there and done that so many times that they're sick of Goa now. The point is, there are a lot of other beautiful places you can choose to visit this holiday season.

Some of these places are beautiful, some absolutely breath-taking. And you owe it to yourself as a traveller to visit all of them at least once in your lifetime.

1. Kerala

God's own country, Kerala, has a charm that is hard to put into words, but I shall try. The backwaters, a network of five large lakes linked by canals, both man-made and natural, fed by 38 rivers, and extending virtually half the length of the Kerala state, is absolute gold. About 1900 kms of water around you to give you the break you've been yearning the entire year.

How many states can you think of that boast of having beautiful tea gardens and gorgeous backwaters just a couple of hours apart from each other? Munnar is another precious gem that Kerala has. With the tea gardens and hills around you, the temperature here stays between 5 and 25 degree Celsius throughout the year. Talk about chilling! 

2. Pondicherry, Puducherry

A 3-hour drive from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, will lead to this sweet surprise called Pondicherry or Puducherry. The French quarters, in particular, is a city in itself. With colonial townhouses painted in yellow and orange, the roads spic and span, the cobbled streets, the sea navy blue, it truly feels like you've entered a European Coastline. Must visit!

3. Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep is a string of 36 coral islands, approximately 300 kms off the coast of Kerala. However, 10 of these islands are inhabited mostly by fishermen, and travelers are only allowed on a few of them. As for how pretty this place is, I don't think I need to answer that after this picture. Jaw dropping stunning!

4. Rann of Kutch, Gujrat

The arid lands of Kutch creates a mosaic of exquisiteness which reflects the identity and spirit of the region. The flat, tortoise-shaped land (kachbo means tortoise in Gujarati), edged by the Gulf of Kachchh and Great and Little Ranns, is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar desert. It is the salt collected on the marshy land that gives the desert it's beautiful white colour. If you plan to take a trip to this part of the country on a full moon in December, you will be witnessing Rann Utsav, a three-four day carnival arranged by the locals at various locales within Kutch.

5. Kashmir

Emperor Jehangir once famously said, "Kashmir, the rest is worthless". While I might not agree completely, I do agree there are only a few other places which even come close to the beauty of Kashmir. There is a reason why I haven't mentioned a particular city here, because it's that hard to choose a favourite. If there is heaven on earth, it's Kashmir.

6. Auli, Uttarakhand

Auli is India's premier skiing destination with thousands of enthusiasts travelling up there to experience the thrill of skiing down the slopes of the Himalayas. But skiing is not the only reason why it attracts tourists. Auli also provides for an amazing view of the Nanda Devi, India's highest peak at 7,816 meters. Awesome!

7. Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh

Nestled between Arunachal's mountainscape, Ziro is actually like a mythical kingdom. They say that Ziro is so beautiful, that anyone can be considered a photographer because of the picture-postcard landscapes it has to offer. This breath-taking place is also a must visit!

8. Havelock, Andaman & Nicobar Islands

A backpacker's paradise, Havelock Island offers everything you look for in a vacation. With snow-white virgin beaches, Havelock also boasts of some of the best diving locations in Asia. An absolute treat that this island is, some people choose to stay here for the entirety of their trip. Total serenity guaranteed.

Dating must be hard in Russia. The harsh climate requires women to wear year-round parkas. And judging entirely on Saturday morning cartoons, all Russians either actively plot world domination or kill bears for breakfast (or in the case of Vladimir Putin, both).  As of January 1, 2006 there will be major changes to the affirmations group regarding rules, manners, and ettiquette within the affirmations group!!  POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO DE-STRESS was originally set up years ago to give support, love, and friendship to people these days in the highly fast-paced and stressful world that we now live in.  There are always deadlines, obligations, and long &quot;to do lists&quot; of things we each need to accomplish on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis to keep ourselves healthy, happy, productive, and to bless our family members and friends and community. 
POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO DE-STRESS was also originally set up to teach the &quot;how&#39;s, why&#39;s, where&#39;s, and who&#39;s&quot; of positive affirmations, positive thinking, positive living, and a positive outlook or response to daily life. This group was intended to give out unconditional love and acceptance to everyone -- which I am a firm believer in.  This group also touches on meditation, ways of breathing better (for calmness, peace and good health). Yoga, tai chi, herbal remedies, different forms of spirituality, are also occasionally touched on in the affirmations group. Another big purpose of the affirmations group is to become more stress-free in daily life. In the past, we have touched on ways of dealing with anxiety and insomnia in this group.
POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO DE-STRESS was originally intended to teach people how to work on their self-esteem and self-confidence in order to magnify and be the best a person can be, and in being able to live with ourselves and look ourselves in the mirror face to face and to love what we see.  &quot;To thine own self, be true!&quot;   The affirmations group has tried to reach out to individuals and help them become better people and to then spread this message out to others throughout the world. &quot;What you give out, shall come back to you!&quot; 
The affirmations group was never meant to be a counseling service or a place where people could divulge all their deep, dark troubles in their lives here or be a &quot;dumping ground&quot; where one could tell anyone anything here and still get love and support back.  However, in some cases this is exactly what this group has become.  I am a very kind-hearted, loving, genuine person who deeply cares for others. I have been through a lot of &quot;stuff&quot; in my lifetime, and dealt with a lot of troubles myself, which has made me more emphathetic to others and what they are going through.  That is why I have tried so hard to reach out to everyone and lift people up with encouragement, hope and love.  But, it seems that when I have tried to help others, this group tends to become a &quot;dumping ground&quot; where a few people have been helped perhaps, but many others get discouraged by hearing the troubles and difficulties of people over and over. I myself, tend to get down after awhile of this pattern.  I feel that these changes are needed for the affirmations group to grow and blossom and to get back to its original roots and intentions. 
As of January 1st, 2006: if anyone wants to write in an email to the affirmations group to tell us of all the difficulties and troubles in your life, please go elsewhere to do this. Join a different yahoo group or seek out help in the 12-step programs (either in person or through the internet).  There are also groups on the web that deal with anxiety or depression, or chronic illnesses.  Please join those groups to be able to write in and share your woes.  But, please do not do that within the affirmations group. 
POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO DE-STRESS is the TOOLBOX that each of us has to learn ways to cope better and de-stress, ways to become more positive in our lives, and how to benefit from using positive affirmations and positive thinking.  This affirmations group is also where you can share your successes and stories of how you were, and how you became better! 
 * Now, I&#39;m not asking every single person to never share that they are having a bad day, or a difficult week -- ALL of us need to vent occasionally. But, if we get on tirades of ONLY sharing the negative and the bad side of life, then we are detouring from our goal.  That is why I am asking to keep the negative talk to a very minimum, ...and to even TRY TO SEE SOME POSITIVE within the negative talk.  Reach out and try to discard the negative way of looking at things, and try to accentuate the positive and uplifting ways of hope and love and encouragement. *
  *** Briefly, new rules are: 1) When sending in a message to the POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO DE-STRESS yahoo group, please think over what you want to say before writing it in an email to the group. How will your message affect others, and what are you hoping to accomplish by sending in this email?
2) If you are just having a bad day, or a difficult time, try to think what you can learn from this experience and how you can turn &quot;a venting email&quot; into a positive affirmation or a more positive way of looking at things?
3) If all you want to do is express your disgust or frustration with life, please take that message elsewhere. [I for one, suffer from terrible rheumatoid arthritis pain year round. But, who wants to hear me moan and groan, or whine and complain every day about how bad I might feel?! So, I go elsewhere to express this (most of the time), and instead share more positive messages in the affirmations group. As you can imagine, this has taken some self-discipline and time for me to learn this lesson. I know that I have improved and my belly-aching has lessened in the affirmations group. This is just an example.]
4) Please share positive experiences, or personal stories of victory with the affirmations group! Let us hear how affirmations are helping your thought processes, and in successfully changing your life for the better! We love to hear motivating and inspiring stories! Sometimes, a picture can be worth a thousand words!
5) If any group members forget and write a long diatribe to the group about how unfair life is, or what a crummy time one is having, ...you will be given one warning from the group moderators.
6) If a person does this a second time -- the forgetting and writing a long story or email about their life, ...the person will be put on a moderated status within the group. That means, you can write in a message to the group, but that it will be read by the moderators BEFORE it can be sent out to all the group members. This will take time, and be somewhat frustrating for the individual, as well as for the moderators.
7) Lastly, if the same behavior continues, ...the person will be asked to leave the affirmations group. Then, they will not have the benefit of positive affirmations & stories to listen to or read, and they may even lose a friendship that they may have with another group member. ***
Basically, those are the group rules, and I feel that they are fair. If they need to be revised in the future, all group members will be notified as to the changes.

Climbing China’s Great Wall

 
Afaa M. Weaver

This wall is a great stairway, walls
are things that shoot up, keep out, line
the places where we mark the halls

 

that carry our names. The busts
of this one and that one, this history
is in the hard labor of hearts, thrusts

 

of piston and valve. I sit down
at the first house, dizzy at the view
over the wall, the tourist town

 

below us, in buildings made old
by the deliberate hand of business,
not the rain, the sun, the untold

 

billions of raindrops and tear drops
of soldiers wishing for the lovers
they left behind, untended crops,

 

mothers weaving braids of grief
in their hair. A little old woman
bounces past me, leaping the brief

 

weld of stone to stone, the stairs
the legend and skeleton of the wall,
where white cranes dance in pairs.

In a recent study of female serial killers, it was found that most female killers work in traditionally feminine professions like nursing and teaching. These positions give killers easy access to vulnerable victims.
 
2. Women kill for resources.

While many male serial murders involve a desire for domination, control, and sexual violence, females are more likely to kill for power or money.
 
3. Male serial killers are more likely to be caught.

According to another study, female serial killers are able to avoid capture for at least twice as long as male serial killers.
 
4. Most female killers know their victims.

Most victims of male serial killers are strangers to their killer, while almost every victim of a female serial killer is a known friend, family member, or acquaintance.
 
5. Most women who are in prison for murder are there because they killed a husband, boyfriend, or child.

6. Poison is the method of choice for female serial killers.

7. Male serial killers still vastly outnumber female serial killers.

There were only 46 known female serial killers in the United States between 1800 and 2000.
 
8. The average profile of a female serial killer is disturbingly common.

She is a young, middle-class woman — usually a married Christian — and she works with vulnerable people in fields like nursing, teaching, and care-giving.
 
9. They are equally as likely to murder other women and children as they are to murder men.

In the U.S., at least 51 percent of documented female serial killers have killed another woman. More than 30 percent have murdered a child.
 
10. The average female serial killer murders for much longer than a man.

Researchers have found that female serial killers' careers last between 8 and 11 years, versus just 2 years for their male counterparts. This may have something to do with how rarely they're caught compared to male serial killers.
 
So maybe female serial killers are more common than we once thought. The next time you hear about someone's husband or child dying in an "accident," don't be so quick to rule out the wife or mother...they could be a killer lying in wait for you to let your guard down.
