Kebabs may not find their origins in India, but their exotic melt-in-mouth taste oodling with spices makes them more Indian then anything else. 

With this flavorful tinge of kebab in the mouth, we've compiled a list of places you can savor the best in class kebabs across the nation. Behold - the best places in India to dig in to some kebabs!

1. Peter Cat, Kolkata

Kebabs and Kolkata remain incomplete without the mention of Peter Cat, a place known for its variety of Indian kebabs, sizzlers and more. Chelo Kebab in both veg and non-veg variants is an all time favorite among foodies in Kolkata.  

2. Karim's, Jama Masjid, Old Delhi

This needs no introduction when it comes to the yummiest non-vegetarian delicacies in Delhi. The iconic Karim's is known for its culinary fanfare with kebab being its specialty. This Mecca-Medina for meat lovers serves the finest tasting kebabs starting from smoky-dry and crisp mutton burrah kebabs, mutton seekh, chicken tikkas, tandoori fish to a lot more. Tender and juicy flesh flowing with spices is sure to make you gorge on every bit of it. 

3. Siddique Kebab Center, Hyderabad

Small but only when it comes to the sitting space. Otherwise the Siddique Kebab Center at Kondapur in Hyderabad is nothing less than a heaven for non-veg lovers. Their chicken dishes are simply outstanding with crispy and juicy chicken marinated in home ground spices. The must-try masterpieces include barbeque chicken, stuffed chicken and grilled chicken. Do not go there for ambiance as the place is really small - their food is enough for them to steal the show.

4. Tunday Kababi, Lucknow

Okay, some might find this very mainstream and cliched, but the fact is that the original Tunday Kababi at Naaz Cinema Road, Nazirabad, Aminabad, near Akhbari Gate in Lucknow, is till date, the best place to sample the authentic Mughlai kebab taste. Their two signature dishes, mutton kebab and beef kebab, made using special unani spices are the frontrunners for food lovers. Another must try from them includes Galauti kebab with ulte tawe ka parantha. 

5. Gulati Spice Market, Delhi

I think this is the only kebab place in Delhi where a vegetarian foodie will not be disappointed. No denying that they serve some of the best in class non-vegetarian kebabs in the city, but their vegetarian kebab menu is equally exotic. Especially their paneer bhare papad, which is yum. Their prices may seem to be on the higher side as compared to others in this list, but rest assured that there will be no compromise on their taste and quality. 

6. Ayub's, Mumbai

If you are in Mumbai and craving some late night snack or quick bite on the go, head straight to D. VB Gandhi Marg and look for Ayub's, a small eatery serving kebabs to die for. In fact, even their baida roti is worth every penny you spend on it. Chicken bhuna roll and chicken drumsticks will definitely give your tummy much-needed relief from hunger while satiating your taste buds. 

7. Kabab Corner, Chennai 

Endless variety with amazing taste - that's how people flocking over to this awesome kebab place in Chennai describe it. Kabab Corner at Greams Road is one of the oldest Mughlai eateries in Chennai that serves the best kebabs. Right from the steak to chicken tikka, beef roll, double seekh roll, you name it and they have it on their menu. All these kebabs must be relished with their famous roomali roti for that extra pinch of flavor. 

8. Paradise, Hyderabad

Agreed, the place is known for its marvelous Hyderabadi Biryani, but that's not the only thing you can find here. Choti and Boti kebab from Paradise are legends in themselves and a definite try alongside its biryani. Another best from the menu is Checken Kalami kebab. If you are too full to try it there, get it packed, but do not give it a miss. 

9. Piccadilly Cafe, Mumbai

Tucked in the busy and cramped street of Colaba in Mumbai amidst tiny shops is an age-old gaudy place called Piccadilly Cafe. The place is known for its Iranian delights that also include some of the best kebabs served in town, such as Chello Kabab, Juje Kabab, Shish Tawouk and more. If the spicy tinge of Mughlai flavors is your thing, this place is certainly a blessing in disguise for you. 

10. Rajinder Da Dhaba, New Delhi

Do you love street food? So do I and and I cannot thank God enough for the day he made me explore Rajinder the Dhaba, a heavenly food joint near Karnal Cinema Complex in Delhi. Whether you want to grab a quick bite or want a lavish non-veg feast, they will give you ample options to celebrate your meat venture. Their tikkas and burra kebabs are hot, spicy and finger licking. Mutton galauti kebabs, mutton burra, and Afghani chicken are some of the personal favorites. 

11. The Mughal's Dastarkhwan, Lucknow 

This list would have remained incomplete without the inclusion of this place. The most authentic place for real Nawabi flavors right from their ambiance to their food to their people, whether it's food or their tehzeeb. The original Dastarkhwan at Hazratganj is the place you want to be for the best kebabs served with luxury of Nawabs and Mughals. There are a few gifts India has given the world. Whether it's the beautiful Taj Mahal, the number Zero, or the art of Yoga, we have always given out some of the best inventions to mankind. Even when it comes to delicacies, India has not shied away from giving masterpieces to the world. This mouth-watering delicacy has taken the world on a joyride with everyone from Masterchef's Matt Preston to pop star Zayn Malik singing praises for the delicacy. 

While the history of Indian food and its spiciness is well known it is the twist of buttery sweetness that makes everyone fall in love with butter chicken. This enemy-of-the-diet-follower has been many people's favourite cheat day food. Now easily available in almost all well-developed parts of the world, butter chicken is still best served on Indian soil. While the best places to try butter chicken would be at one of the authentic road side dhabas, there are still many fancy places that serve you the perfect finger licking butter chicken with the famous hot steamy naan. 

1. The Moti Mahal Restaurant, New Delhi

The claimed inventors of butter chicken, this place is a must-try for every butter chicken lover. Moti Mahal, started in 1940s, is a must to start this list for its legendary existence and rich cuisine. 9. Zaffran, Mumbai

Nike unveiled their 1st Generation power lacing shoe yesterday the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0. "When you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten," explains Tiffany Beers, Senior Innovator, NIKE, Inc., and the project's technical lead. "Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it's perfect."
 
"Adaptive lacing" as Nike calls the technology, is years in the making. The team first came up with a snowboard boot featuring an external generator. While far from the ideal, it was the first of a series of strides toward their original goal: to embed the technical components into such a small space that the design moves with the body and absorbs the same force the athlete is facing.

(A friendly reminder for group members)
 As of January 1, 2006 there will be major changes to the affirmations group regarding rules, manners, and ettiquette within the affirmations group!!  POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO DE-STRESS was originally set up years ago to give support, love, and friendship to people these days in the highly fast-paced and stressful world that we now live in.  There are always deadlines, obligations, and long &quot;to do lists&quot; of things we each need to accomplish on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis to keep ourselves healthy, happy, productive, and to bless our family members and friends and community. 
POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO DE-STRESS was also originally set up to teach the &quot;how&#39;s, why&#39;s, where&#39;s, and who&#39;s&quot; of positive affirmations, positive thinking, positive living, and a positive outlook or response to daily life. This group was intended to give out unconditional love and acceptance to everyone -- which I am a firm believer in.  This group also touches on meditation, ways of breathing better (for calmness, peace and good health). Yoga, tai chi, herbal remedies, different forms of spirituality, are also occasionally touched on in the affirmations group. Another big purpose of the affirmations group is to become more stress-free in daily life. In the past, we have touched on ways of dealing with anxiety and insomnia in this group.
POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO DE-STRESS was originally intended to teach people how to work on their self-esteem and self-confidence in order to magnify and be the best a person can be, and in being able to live with ourselves and look ourselves in the mirror face to face and to love what we see.  &quot;To thine own self, be true!&quot;   The affirmations group has tried to reach out to individuals and help them become better people and to then spread this message out to others throughout the world. &quot;What you give out, shall come back to you!&quot; 
The affirmations group was never meant to be a counseling service or a place where people could divulge all their deep, dark troubles in their lives here or be a &quot;dumping ground&quot; where one could tell anyone anything here and still get love and support back.  However, in some cases this is exactly what this group has become.  I am a very kind-hearted, loving, genuine person who deeply cares for others. I have been through a lot of &quot;stuff&quot; in my lifetime, and dealt with a lot of troubles myself, which has made me more emphathetic to others and what they are going through.  That is why I have tried so hard to reach out to everyone and lift people up with encouragement, hope and love.  But, it seems that when I have tried to help others, this group tends to become a &quot;dumping ground&quot; where a few people have been helped perhaps, but many others get discouraged by hearing the troubles and difficulties of people over and over. I myself, tend to get down after awhile of this pattern.  I feel that these changes are needed for the affirmations group to grow and blossom and to get back to its original roots and intentions. 
As of January 1st, 2006: if anyone wants to write in an email to the affirmations group to tell us of all the difficulties and troubles in your life, please go elsewhere to do this. Join a different yahoo group or seek out help in the 12-step programs (either in person or through the internet).  There are also groups on the web that deal with anxiety or depression, or chronic illnesses.  Please join those groups to be able to write in and share your woes.  But, please do not do that within the affirmations group. 
POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO DE-STRESS is the TOOLBOX that each of us has to learn ways to cope better and de-stress, ways to become more positive in our lives, and how to benefit from using positive affirmations and positive thinking.  This affirmations group is also where you can share your successes and stories of how you were, and how you became better! 
 * Now, I&#39;m not asking every single person to never share that they are having a bad day, or a difficult week -- ALL of us need to vent occasionally. But, if we get on tirades of ONLY sharing the negative and the bad side of life, then we are detouring from our goal.  That is why I am asking to keep the negative talk to a very minimum, ...and to even TRY TO SEE SOME POSITIVE within the negative talk.  Reach out and try to discard the negative way of looking at things, and try to accentuate the positive and uplifting ways of hope and love and encouragement. *
  *** Briefly, new rules are: 1) When sending in a message to the POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS TO DE-STRESS yahoo group, please think over what you want to say before writing it in an email to the group. How will your message affect others, and what are you hoping to accomplish by sending in this email?
2) If you are just having a bad day, or a difficult time, try to think what you can learn from this experience and how you can turn &quot;a venting email&quot; into a positive affirmation or a more positive way of looking at things?
3) If all you want to do is express your disgust or frustration with life, please take that message elsewhere. [I for one, suffer from terrible rheumatoid arthritis pain year round. But, who wants to hear me moan and groan, or whine and complain every day about how bad I might feel?! So, I go elsewhere to express this (most of the time), and instead share more positive messages in the affirmations group. As you can imagine, this has taken some self-discipline and time for me to learn this lesson. I know that I have improved and my belly-aching has lessened in the affirmations group. This is just an example.]
4) Please share positive experiences, or personal stories of victory with the affirmations group! Let us hear how affirmations are helping your thought processes, and in successfully changing your life for the better! We love to hear motivating and inspiring stories! Sometimes, a picture can be worth a thousand words!
5) If any group members forget and write a long diatribe to the group about how unfair life is, or what a crummy time one is having, ...you will be given one warning from the group moderators.
6) If a person does this a second time -- the forgetting and writing a long story or email about their life, ...the person will be put on a moderated status within the group. That means, you can write in a message to the group, but that it will be read by the moderators BEFORE it can be sent out to all the group members. This will take time, and be somewhat frustrating for the individual, as well as for the moderators.
7) Lastly, if the same behavior continues, ...the person will be asked to leave the affirmations group. Then, they will not have the benefit of positive affirmations & stories to listen to or read, and they may even lose a friendship that they may have with another group member. ***
Basically, those are the group rules, and I feel that they are fair. If they need to be revised in the future, all group members will be notified as to the changes.

Dusk in August—
which means nearly
nine o’clock here, deep
in the heart of central
Jersey—and the deer
step out to graze
the backyards. They tear
each yellowy red
tulip cup, munch up
rhododendrons
and azaleas. Fifty
years of new houses
have eaten into
their woodland, leaving
only this narrow strip
of trees along the trickly
stream that zigzags
between Route 9
and Lily’s mom’s
backyard. The deer rise
from the mist, hooves
clicking on asphalt, a doe
and a buck, his antlers
like a chandelier.
Sometimes a doe and two
fawns. Or else we see
just the white flags
of their tails bobbing away
into the dark. In theory
the DNR should come
catch them, let them go
where it’s still
forest, still possible to live
as they were meant to.
But these days
there’s no money
for that. And people keep
leaving out old bread,
rice, stale cookies, or else
plant more delicious flowers.
“Mei banfa,”
my mother-in-law says:
Nothing can be done.
Seeing them in
the distance—that distance
we can’t close
without them shying
and turning and skittering
down Dickinson Lane
or bounding
over a backyard fence—
I try to imagine
they’re messengers
come back to tell us
their stories, any news
of the lost or what
comes next, though
if they could say
anything, they would
probably say, Go away.

“‘Come Back to Tell Us’ is part of a book-length poem called Dear Almost, which takes place over the course of a year, from one spring to the next, and is addressed to an unborn child lost in a miscarriage. I was fascinated to learn that, according to Shinto beliefs, deer are considered messengers of the gods—and images of deer, along with the deep wish to send a message to our lost one, figure throughout the poem. Speaking of learning, years ago when my wife and I first started dating, I discovered that all the streets in the neighborhood where she grew up were named after poets—Dickinson Lane, Longfellow Terrace, Sandburg Drive—which seemed like another kind of message from the gods.”

Since then the activity has become a source of meditative practice and creative passion and Grab has become prolific in the art form. On his website, Grab explains:

When I Read the Book

 
Walt Whitman

When I read the book, the biography famous,
And is this then (said I) what the author calls a man’s life?
And so will some one when I am dead and gone write my life?
(As if any man really knew aught my life,
Why even I myself I often think know little or nothing of my real life,
Only a few hints, a few diffused faint clews and indirections
I seek for my own use to trace out here.)

About This Poem

 

“When I Read the Book” was published in the 1881 edition of Leaves of Grass (James R. Osgood, 1881).
 

Walt Whitman was born on May 31, 1819, and is widely considered one of America’s most important poets. He worked as a printer, teacher, and journalist in the New York City area. He is best known for his book Leaves of Grass, which he composed and updated throughout his entire adult life. He died on March 26, 1892.
