On the Road to National Poetry Month 2020

 

It's the beginning of the new year and teachers, students, and readers are preparing for the largest literary celebration in the world—National Poetry Month

Poetry & the Creative Mind Gala

 

Join us on Wednesday, April 29 for our 18th annual Poetry & the Creative Mind gala reading at New York City's Lincoln Center. Tickets are now on sale for the event, which in previous years has featured such guests as Uma Thurman, Krista Tippett, Patty Griffin, Lorna Simpson, Meryl Streep, and more.

Poetry & Protest

 

The Poetry Coalition will devote March 2020 to exploring the theme "I am deliberate / and afraid / of nothing: Poetry & Protest" in a series of programs that will reach an anticipated audience of more than 300,000 individuals nationwide.

Dear Poet 2020

 

Every National Poetry Month we present Dear Poet, a multimedia education project that invites young people in grades five through twelve to write letters in response to poems written and read by award-winning poets. In this video, Poets Laureate Fellow Jaki Shelton Green reads "i know the grandmother one had hands."

New Chancellors Elected

 

The Academy is excited to announce that Dorianne Laux and Kevin Young have been elected to its Board of Chancellors, a distinction shared by just 115 poets since the board was formed in 1946.
